He doesnt have a personality, he's a generic one note anime trope. If you think he's anything more you're kidding yourself. Unless laughing is now a persoonality trait.
Kefka is cool and all, but the heaps of neverending praise for him are starting to wear on me the way Im sure some people have come to loathe Sephiroth.
Zack was the one that stood out the most for me as well. The character is ripped right out of every Naruto styled Manga ever. I get some people like happy go lucky hero, but this guy is seriously the most generic lead FF has ever had.
actually, thinking back, he was pretty quiet lol, just more pleasant than cloud. I also don't know most of them on that list but then I only played since 7 and skipped 8.
, I'd swap Zack with Zidane. Apart from me liking Zidane's game and hating Crisis Core, I feel like Zack was better when he was a memory than when he became a playable character.
I'm not surprised Tactics is not included, I think either Ramza or Delita deserve a spot somewhere on the top 10. =( On the flipside I'm glad Zack and Balthier made the list. =)
Here's my own personal top 10 list, in no particular order:
1) Zidane - Upbeat, fun, smart, and--despite not being human--more human than most other FF characters. He starts off confident, gets emotionally wrecked by the story, and then comes back from it stronger than ever.
2) Squall - Terrified of commitment because of abandonment issues, Squall is often hailed as one of the worst FF characters ever--because he resounds too closely to his audience. Squall's emotional blockades are eventually shattered when he realizes that he prefers the risk of abandonment to being alone forever.
3) Vivi. Vivi.
4) Tifa - She takes care of Cloud for five years despite knowing that, at any time, he could snap--just like Sephiroth. She lies to him in order to protect him. Though she has every opportunity and every reason to leave Cloud to his own devices and move on with her life, she doesn't.
5) Yuna - A woman willing to sacrifice everything to give the world a moment of peace. Even when the entire world seeks to imprison and kill her, and even when Tidus urges her to abandon her quest, she doesn't. She is one of the most selfless characters in the entire FF series. Starting off as an incredibly reserved person, she grows a backbone throughout X and X-2.
6) Tidus - A teenager who gets sucked into another world. He's fun-loving, optimistic, mischievous, and his voice is affected by adolescence--which makes him despised by the internet. How dare a teenager not be cool and brooding! Despite his outward demeanor, Tidus hides an imperfect childhood. Tidus is fully representative of anyone who is thrown into a situation beyond their comprehension.
7) Lightning - Lightning is in this list not because she is a good character, but because she is one of the most notable characters in FF history:
No other FF protagonist regularly hallucinates, attempts to destroy the world, murders their sister, becomes God, attempts to murder their former allies, abandons children to their deaths, and communicates by punching. Lightning is a raving lunatic with no reason to her rhyme, and the ultimate example of how bad a character can be.
8) Quina.
9) Noel - Perhaps Noel only shines against the backdrop of Fabula Nova Crystallis, but he most certainly does. A speck of sanity amongst a sea of nonsense, Noel gives players ground as they attempt to navigate Final Fantasy XIII-2. Not only are his interactions with the slightly loopy Serah hilarious, but his past is very interesting and integral to the plot as well. Despite his history, Noel is one of the most "normal" and relateable characters in the series.
10) Balthier & Fran - Finally, an established couple--a breath of fresh air in a series sprinkled with giggly teenage love. It is not what Balthier and Fran say that make them notable, but what they don't say. So familiar with one another, they often need say nothing at all to get their point across. They are the silent guides of Final Fantasy XII--so silent that most players don't realize that
should Ashe attempt to use the Sun Cryst, Balthier means to execute her.
Fortunately, the duo--with a little help from Vaan, who was almost on this list--ultimately steer the party in the right direction.
Sorry, guys! The SNES games' characters fell flat, even back then. It was only until FF6 that they became somewhat interesting--but not more interesting than the installments that followed, nostalgia be damned. That said, "Fighter" from FF1 almost made this list because of the sheer overpoweredness. Cloud also almost made this list, but I feel that the things that happened to Cloud are more notable than Cloud himself.
Actually a pretty decent list. I would have replaced Celes with Terra and added in Yuna, Zidane, and Lightning somewhere, but overall, I'm quite pleased.
Very happy to see no Cloud or any other FF VII characters besides Sephiroth in the list, at least.
