GT5 News - Nurburgring update (pre-E3 edition)

That image that Pungza posted earlier is legit. It's even on the Porsche site

Credit to Timppaq from GTplanet for cutting/englaring that image. Some people from GTplanet are reading into it pretty heavily. I'm not sure what to make if it though. Seems odd that they'd choose Polyphony assets, even if they're placeholder, considering that there's no relationship between the two (that we know of).

So, if that is GT5 running on a PS3 inside the Porsche, if the car comes out in GT5 we can drive the Porsche in GT5 while we drive the Porsche in GT5? :D

No. Yes. Make it longer and more confusing. (edited)

I know someone who is happy

Its clearly bullshit.

Maybe they used to, but its clearly no longer the case.

They have an exclusive Ferrari contract for Xbox and PC, that's the only exclusive Ferrari contract according to the Ferrari Challenge developers. GT5 will still have Ferraris and any other game can if the developer/publisher stumps up the cash or makes a deal with Microsoft like EA did with Shift.

Its just a combination of this GT PSP and this Forza 3 image.

Italian Luca Lorenzini and Frenchman Jordan Tresson have won the second edition of Sony?s and Nissan?s GT Academy, making a giant leap towards a race driver career.

Lorenzini and Tresson proved to have the most talent to make it in professional racing, beating sixteen other contestants that came to Silverstone for the grueling five-day final of the 2010 GT Academy. What started as purely virtual competition last December got very real at Silverstone as the drivers had to prove their fitness and skills driving various Nissan road cars as well as in practical and written test, watched by an expert jury made up of well-known racers.

Last year?s GT Academy jury-member Johnny Herbert was joined by road racer Rob Barff, former F1 team owner Eddie Jordan and Nürburgring expert Sabine Schmitz.

When all the dust settled, Lorenzini and Tresson were the two winners but only one of them will be enjoying a fully-paid season in the FIA GT4 championship as both drivers will be starting an extensive driver training programme next week that will determine who receives the season-drive.

So on X360/PC, the only way to drive Ferrari is through a deal with MS or a game by MS?

Sounds plausible. But then Ferrari Challenge devs must have dealt with MS. And yet did not bring the game to the X360. Which is weird.

Sony can easily sue Porsche for that.
Why? What exactly would they gain from that?

I can just imagine the look on a judge's face when he sees the copyright claim over a menu screen from a game being used in a concept car mockup.

So basically what you're saying is that Polyphony can do the opposite and release a bunch of screenshots featuring the 918 ?

car with a game screen they didn't design, nor have the rights to use
game screen with a car they didn't design, nor have the rights to use

Nice contradiction :lol

Yeah this is more likely and in line with previous bundle offerings made with first party Sony games - done some time after the initial release. Not 'free' but usually at a reduced overall cost.

Of course there will be the inevitable GT5/PS3 bundle on launch but it certainly won't be the same price point as the console on it's own.

Of course they won't bundle it from the start, there are 10 million GT5 fans willing to pay full price for it! A few months after release it will get bundled and it will help move allot of systems. GT bundles have always done very well for Sony.

This would be more equivalent to putting a picture of a 918 dashboard into a small part of a screenshot... and yeah, I don't think it would be a big deal at all.

Do you people really live in a world where suing is an appropriate reaction to that sort of thing? God help us all.

Depends on the region. SCEE bundles everything from the start. Most GT5 fans already have a console anyway.

This is Porsche and Gran Turismo we're talking about.

10 years have passed and they're still at war. Then Porsche does this... rubbing salt in the wounds and violating copyright in the process.

From my own personal experience allot of friends are waiting to buy one when they have a firm date on GT5. It's actually surprising how many GT fans won't bite till there's a GT to bite on. This is even evident on GTP as I'm sure you know.

Theres lots on design and money that goes into dashboard systems. There have been a number of suits over it too.

It can be actionable if its used in a commercial way, as in advertising and whatnot by Porsche.

I doubt it would happen, but there have been suits over something as small as using a few icons in a dash menu without permission.

Yes, but I've never seen anything done over a concept (especially given these things routinely rip off other companies in a far more blatant manner than this).

Not to mention the fact that anything past concept would actually have to be created by the manufacturer... and I'm not sure why they'd put a videogame in the dashboard. :)

I'm waiting to pick up a PS3 until GT5 comes out.

Thats why I said if they get commercial benefit out of it.

Bear with me on this hypo:
One could argue that showing off official images of a concept is a form of advertising.

Not only that but some/many/most cars with an indash screen nowadays can accept a video input, so it is conceivable that in this case they are advertising you can play games on the dash monitor and they used the game screen without authorization. No one is saying the F3 portion is a camera mounted outside the car, so that's even more fuel for a in dash video screen argument. :D

Its a stretch, I know, but like I said, if a company wanted to cause ruckus over it, there are definitely ways to frame what Porsche did in a light that would allow a suit to at least be filed and bring some bad press. Whether its a winning argument, who knows, the point is to bring some bad press and that may be all that's needed/wanted.

In the end, its a cheap move by Porsche.

Call me naive, but the idea of a world where people sue each other over things as insignificant as that just depresses me.

To you it may be insignificant, but to them it may be very significant.

Think about the graphic designers/artists who came up with the interface and art for the game. Then it gets taken and used without authorization by a mega corporation for its own advertising campaign and he/she gets nothing for it.

Its not always as simple as it seems.

Those Porsche 918 Spyder promo images look like straight out GT5 promo materials. The style is the same sleek look that Polyphony always adds. Typical magazine style, but straight out car porn. Love it. Love the car, love GT5. Too bad no GT5 Porsches but I can live without even though Porsche has always been close to my heart.

I'm still talking about that concept image, nothing more substantial.

I guess it would be good to know whether that image is also used in the dash of the concept car (even as as still image), or if it was just photoshopped into the artist rendering/concept poster.

That said, car looks good, but I would not say very original. It reminds me of some other older car I cant place right now. Right down to the "droopy" tail lights.

Perhaps an update via PSN will bring us Porsche in GT5...

New footage from the GT Academy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-toiEKoJ2Oc

Credit to zocker_16 from GTplanet. A couple things I noticed is that the co-driver's mouth moves. Which could mean that they're going to give directions for courses. Another thing is that they've sped up the paddle shift animation. A few months ago there would be a pause after they shifted and now the driver just clicks the paddle and immediately puts his hand back on the wheel. And this seems to confirm that they have a replay angle that sticks in the car to show the driver animation (which people were requesting in the TT demo).

The human animation is really creepy.

Sony should be like, "let us put your cars in GT or we'll sue!" :D

Sweet, finally something new to discuss/bash. I have no experience with NASCAR whatsoever (since it's not popular at all here in Europe :p), but it looks pretty cool.

Thanks for the link! Looks like Polyphony is really going all out for its NASCAR representation. I knew Dale Jr. would have some involvement after reading of his lan parties with racing games he used to have :lol. I know a ton of people shit on NASCAR, but, I'm a fan of ALL motor sports, and I just so happen to live in the US where NASCAR has a larger presence, and I'll be damned if I don't love it! Anybody check to see how many cars you could see on screen at once yet?
