GTA IV console vs pc shots - holy fucking shit.

Also, console proponents never seem to take into account the cost of the TV in these debates. A decent 17" computer monitor is <$200, 20" maybe $350. But if you want to take full advantage of the HD gen, you need an HDTV which could be anywhere from $400 to $2,000. So on average, which system is really more expensive?
Both Xbox and PS3 can be played on a PC monitor... and a PC can be played on an HDTV.

Next!
No actual next request. I don't care what system you play it on.

Console versions look a lot grittier and more atmospheric, IMO. PC version, like almost all PC games, have this really flat look even though they are higher res. There doesn't seem to be a substantial difference either way.

This reminds me of people equating the lower resolution of the PS3 version, and subsequent blurriness, as giving them a more "pleasing" image. FREE AA!

I could never understand the arguments against PC gaming. This game obviously looks far superior on the PC, but PCs are also more expensive, more expandable, and require more dedication and especially more knowledge about hardware if you want to ever build or buy one without wasting money.

Early last summer I built my computer, it was a 2.2Ghz Core 2 Duo with 2GB of RAM and a 7900GS. The entire computer cost me $570 (I can see the receipt in my Newegg account), sure that's a lot compared to, at the time, a $400 Xbox 360 but it was an entire computer with a legitimate operating system, 500GB HDD space, etc... the price was actually extraordinarily reasonable and about the price of a PS3. Since then I've made 2 upgrades, in November last year I bought an 8800GT for $170 (ordered a bundle on launch day) and bought 1GB of RAM for $30 some time I can't remember. I also overclocked my CPU to 3.1Ghz without paying anything extra.

So for less than double the price of an Xbox at the time of purchase (today my computer would cost nothing) I have an extraordinarily capable gaming rig that is also my freaking computer. I use it for everything, for school, for work, for 3D animation I'm into, for listening to music, for ripping DVDs, as my media server, for posting on this message board... I was able to play Bioshock, Mass Effect, Gears of War, Orange Box. along with the numerous PC exclusive games over the last year and a half. All these games super high to max quality at resolutions consoles could only dream of.

I own an Xbox 360, I own a Playstation 3, and on top of owning the PC I mentioned I also own a new laptop (though not for many games, integrated graphics ftl). For the purpose of this thread I even own GTA4 on my PS3. It's not a matter of being exclusive to one machine but the PC as a gaming platform is very capable and not something I would consider cost inefficient.

All that being said, I might pick this game up when it's in the $20 - $30 range. I doubt the better graphics are going to make it much more fun to play. Just hoping the modding community picks this up and goes crazy with it.

hardly, that's just a justification to like it over the 360 one, those where console comparisons. I prefer the sharper 360 look vs ps3 but I don't like how clean the PC version looks, it's WAY too clean.

There's a big difference..

I don't like that either. I mean, I have a 1080P monitor, but I don't like games that look high-res. Too sharp and too clean; makes me feel like I'm playing a video game in HD.

It's great to see the PC defence force addressing misconceptions and concerns in this thread quickly and decisively. We truly are the Obama campaign of the gaming world.

Most PC monitors require weird tweaking for the S-video/component inputs to be any good, and besides how many console gamers use their PC monitors anyway? Doesn't that negate "big comfy couch," etc.?

Can, sure, but that doesn't mean many actually do.

And console gamers wonder why us PC gamers just laugh at comparison threads.

Keep drinking the console kool-aid, wish I could find some myself but then again, I DO appreciate having functioning eyes every once in a while.

Can you play games like crysis(pc) on a 40in HDTV and lose no quality? IF so I would love to see some pics or videos, I bet it looks fucken hot!

And PC gamers wonder why everyone else just laughs at them for their ridiculous elitism. You can build and maintain a PC, good for you!

*raises hand*
just saying. I have my ps3 and my pc both hooked up to my Hdtv. I don't have enough room for a separate desk and monitor.

Ofcourse you can, and 1:1 mapped at native resolution unlike with a console. I play all my games on my 27" 768p HDTV and use my 40" 1080p from time to time. With a PC you can also get decent IQ which can go a long way on a big screen.

I'd prefer to be laughed at for being elitist, which is just a character trait and has absolutely nothing to do with the facts, than for being delusional, which some of those PS3/360 comparison threads clearly are.

Yeah well if you want to compare the graphics on a what is probably a high end PC with that of a 3 year old console you might be a little delusional yourself. Is there a difference? Yes. Does it even matter? No. Just play the game for gods sake.

You can buy a budget computer and plop a budget display adapter into it, producing gorgeous HD graphics that no console, this gen, and quite possibly next too, can contend with, for sub-$500. There's no war because there's no argument. It's a simple, immutable fact. Absolutely need to sit your ass on a couch? Buy a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse and stick that on your coffee table. Can't afford a coffee table? Maybe gaming this gen isn't for you. It's not about elitism, it's just a polite sharing of facts and trying to save other gamers a chunk of change - we're not saying "go PC!" out of some jihad on console gaming, it's just the best bang for your buck. The only real argument that could be produced is a love of console exclusives. If that's your game, I have nothing but the best wishes for you.

GTA IV PC is going to rock.

Of course! Why would you think otherwise?

Even a mid-range PC these days would trash any console. It's really embarrassing seeing how any ordinary PC with modern parts can easily pump out resolutions like 1680x1050 and 2048x1536 with great framerates and excellent IQ in the vast majority of games while some console games have to be downscaled to laughable resolutions like 600p lest they slow down like molasses.

The only real exception here is Cysis, and that is so far ahead of anything on a console that it's going to be the standard by which next generation consoles are measured.

There's a difference but nothing "OMFGWTFBBQSAUCEWIFAONEALLOVERMYTITS" worthy. The real advantage that the PC version will have is the modding community that will pop up and add lots of replay value to this game.

Don't forget the framerate, there's a very appreciable difference in terms of gameplay experience between something with a smooth 60fps and something that jitters between 30 and 20fps all the time.

venne said:
I hope the framerate is much improved.

I feel like I am playing a slideshow with the PS3 version.

Its a PC game, the framerate is entirely upto you and the hardware you choose but even a midrange rig should be much smoother than the console versions.

errrr why would you use s-video or component when playing consoles on a monitor? You use DVI (HDMI).

Ya, the resolution is all that matters. If it's a 720p TV, you can really crank up Crysis.

which one is the pc shot ? the left one or the right one ? they both look superb to me .. just differently lit.

Yeah. And this reminds me when people don't see any difference on both system and after the test ps3 version becomes a crap port :lol . I'll bet whether the test can't be possible, anyone complains anything.

As expected since the birth of GTA has always served the PC well.

Getting to be less and less of a reason to own a PS3 or 360 with the PC raking up the titles.
Are you being sarcastic?...I really hope so.
