GTA Stock Market & Insider Trading Thread: Scratching that BAWSAQ itch

It doesn't max out, it actually goes into negative. Be warned! Bad programming! :)
I'm amazed they didn't consider forcing a cap at all, this isn't some 8-bit game where there's a money exploit their 10 man team couldn't have noticed...

Also why it's probably a bit more interesting to play the stock game earlier than later, at that point it's more like a charity for lower level players and an alternative way to store your money.

waiting for the Trillionaire patch

Is there a sell date for HAL set? Still really upset about the game bugging out. A few days ago I put about 20 million each into HAL with Michael going first but for whatever reason his didn't go through and he has no shares :/ I know I did it so it kind of sucks. Now I have to buy in with him at 10 dollars :/

An 8-bit numeric would max out at 127 and then go negative =(

I wonder which stocks will be next for this scene after PIS and HAL experiment ends in 14 hours .

Ok, it probably wouldn't be a money exploit: it'd be a STAT gain exploit. Though I imagine you'd still have a higher number money value that they didn't think anyone could reach and don't plug up because they're a small team that need to work about building the rest of the game. Seeing that sort of exploit in the biggest game production-wise this year (if not ever) FOCUS on money to the point where it's a heavily marketed angle, only to fail to remember to close up the bug is... odd. I also kind of expect we'd see a cap a 2 billion rather than a trillion patch, just because that'd probably take a lot more work than just telling the game to stop accepting money.

a signed byte maxes out at 127 but even an 8-bit processor can be used to create 32 bit integers or more

and it is lazy programing they could have either used 64 bit integer or at least set a limit like $999,999,999

Yeah, I know. I remember getting a scores higher than 127 on 2600 games. It is strange they went with a 32-bit INT for a variable such as this. It is simple to use a 64-bit INT and would not be a performance hit for something that is rarely used in code.

What experiment are we talking about?

I bought into this one at 1 dollar a share, hope they are not trying to crash it any time soon. we need it to reach 50 like it was a week ago before anyone bails out!

Does pis stock go down on ps3? I swear I saw $10 some time ago and now it's $9.89, I saw them on rockstar bawsaq websites though, dont how accurate that is

Man, I'm still at work...

Isn't there an option to use the webpage for buying/selling? I honestly have no idea. :D

Callibretto, it goes a wee bit down before it goes up.

PIS goes to sale at 10PM GMT so we will see how price will react - this is why I call it 'experiment' :)

Oh, it's probably used a shit-ton in code. But that's irrelevant. They could've even used a 32 unsigned int, if that were the problem. I get using bytes for stats like in Final Fantasy VII. There's like 10 characters, each with like 10 stats. You have to save each stat when you save the game. That's 100 bytes just for stats. If you'd used int32 for stats in FFVII, you'd have used 100 * 32 = 3200 bytes instead. You can't save 3 KB more of data on a memory card with 8MB without some problems, just for stats.

However, there are 3 characters, and each have one money stat. They could've made this property a BigInteger, that can store a limitless number, and it wouldn't have mattered. This just smells a programmer that goes about his day and didn't consider the size implication. And no one else has noticed. I wonder if they can change it..

I've stated this before. All invested capital is static capital. If I invest 5 billions into a company, I'll push the price up. But from there on, I can't push the price up more. If we all sell at the same time, everyone will get a return on the current price, which doesn't update more than every other hour. Then everyone can dump their money into another stock, and help that rise.

We don't need to reach any level. We need to move on, because that's how we'll get the biggest return on our investments.

There is nothing to be concerned about. It's still been steadily going up. HAL was down 5% during one two hour interval yesterday. If you'd bailed, then, you'd have missed out on a 20-25% increase since.

ok, so they are going to sell it at 10PM GMT, that means price should go down.. might be to late to invest in it then, will wait until it has been sold to see if it will go down. any links to the reddit thread?

I pulled the trigger early on PIS. Just made like $100 million dollars, which is like 3 times what I put in, a decent enough return for me. Just the whole general nervousness on the internet, especially Reddit made this decision for me. Specifically a post on Reddit talking about how they sold early because they were worried about Gaf selling early lol.

This is some prisoner's dilemma stuff right here, extremely fascinating.

Price will not go down on the same moment, R* takes quite a time to update. Maybe even BASDAQ will die under pressure :D

Link and info is on post #267 of this thread

If indeed we can manipulate the market in this way, then it´s a huge flaw no? Buying stocks from single player cash to the online stock market is a bit of strange, especially if Rockstar is trying to create a balanced online world no?

I dont need more money as I have over a billion but it sure is fun to invest.

If I start to see a dip I may bail early. On the other hand it could be a reason to invest MORE in...

But yeah, I think human nature will ultimately balance it out, some of us are just skittish about not making our money back, so we bail early and screw the whole thing up

HAL won't go down any time soon, when people sell up on PIS they are gonna plough it all straight in to HAL.

Hence why I'm in early.

Yes thats what I was thinking as well. Seeing my huge investment at 1dollar a share, I am in a pretty good position. but as I said before, I dont need more money haha.

Hopefully the online version will have its own market that has not been tampered with from the money that we are spending on BAWSAQ from single player mode.

reason why I am saying this is because it is so easy to get to a billion in single player mode.

another thing regarding Stock market, it can never be correct. let say you save before investing, then if the market does not go in your favour you load the save before you invested. They should come up with a save system that locks that money you invested even if you load that previous save where you still had your money. Do we know if money invested stays invested even if you load a new save?

what I am saying is this: you invest 1billion into H&L then load the save before you invested, you have your 1 billion on your character but they 1 billion you invested earlier are still being accounted for on the H&L stock, even if you don´t have a stake in it anymore.

Ok I'm all PIS'd up. Didn't have a whole lot of money to pour into it on account of spending it all on properties but this will be my first step at building a new bankroll until I get another big payday in game.

They also didn't do a very good job at signing their save. I made a money editor for this in like an hour after I got access to all 3 characters.

So I dumped about 20mil for each person a couple days ago in Pis. Looking at the market right now it's a damn good profit if you ask me lol. I'll cash out with the rest of you tomorrow :)

The earliest I'd be able to sell my PIS shares would be 8 GMT and that's just too close for me.

So it was either that, HAL or sit on 120 MIL.

Time will tell.

No checksum? Just find the value and change it?

Which did you do?

Also, PIS was up 6% the last two hours on PS3. This train ain't stoppin'.

AMU is still tanking, down to record low of $395.83!

....how do you run an editor on a console game? Only ever seen them for PC games!

PIS $10.47 in game for me PS3.

I've woken up this morning to find that my investment is now at 44% return on ~100m per character (was late for the train), and still going up :) Brokenbeans, it looks like you chose the wrong time to jump ship! :/ I'll be stuck in work now till 7pm; it's gonna be a long day, and a nervous wait given how many other people are getting out early.

Don't do it people!

PIS just went down from $10.48 to $10.29 on PSN for me. I do hope panic sellers are not affecting the price too much.

People, STOP SELLING AND START BUYING!

The reddit forum has set Wednesdays as the day to buy and sell!

I want a cinema!

Sold all my Pisswasser shares. Made a few million. Not much. Kept my HAL, and doubled down on it with all my characters. Michael has 45 million in it, Franklin and Trevor both put almost 40 million each into it. HAL ALL THE WAY! Hope it goes up to 100 bucks at some point. Lol.

I've been on the Pisswasser bandwagon for a couple of days, but it seem to have died down since yesterday.

I don't really care since with the Lester Missions and the latest Pisswater speculating, i'm still sitting on 1000 Millions per character with all property bought anyway, but I haven't found any stock worth speculating on in the last day of so. Both LCN and BAWSAQ give terrible returns and I reckon I might lose more than I can gain anyway. Maybe i'll just sit on my huge pile of cash and leave the stock be for now, unless a new clear trend emerges.

Damn! Someone sent me a message saying that it was Wednesday....

Still gonna keep hold of it until after 10pm and see what happens!

Thanks for the heads up.

I'd absolutely recommend selling all stocks at the exact moment reddit has suggested. It won't go down before then, but it is highly likely that the stock will fall. It's at least very, very unlikely that it will rise.

There's no point in risking your money by staying in it, after people sell. That's just gambling. There'll be another stock we'll sky-rocket. If it turns out it'll go up, then down, then you'll know next time. It's absolutely no time to be a champion.

I've been on the Pisswasser bandwagon for a couple of days, but it seem to have died down since yesterday.

It's by far the biggest grower during the last 12 hours.
