GTA V made $800 Million in less then 24 hours, beats Black Ops 2

1. Yes I said that, because I based it on the number available at the time, aka WW numbers of ~5-7 million. So will take a while, as in not day 1, but a few days.
2. Still not profitable, $800 million ~30% = $240 million, and ~30million to go.

According to the LAtimes article the publisher takes $27 per game. That´s nearly half, which makes the game very profitable.

Next gen GTA better be awesome. I hope they don't have to go back to a GTA4 figuring thing out mode, no fun allowed type stuff.

Wow that's a lot! I hope the game turns out well/fun for those playing it. I'm curious about it, but don't have time to play it currently.

According to an article from 2010 it is, according to and article in 2011 its less ~30%.

Do we have a 2013 article to end it?

So according to you publishers only make $18 per copy? That seems extremely low.

There's been plenty.

They can make all the games they want. I would prefer if better games and devs were getting the userbase and money, that's all.

Thankfully your preference in this scenario doesn't mean much. GTA V is an incredible game so far, and from what I've played R* deserved every penny.

They're the king. And even after making a couple of masterpiece, they're still down to earth. They don't try to completely rip you off with insane micro-transaction, they don't force always online, they don't release the same game every year, they don't sell you online passes...

And people said they were crazy for giving it a $150 million budget.

The biggest warning though is to Capcom, Square-Enix and the other dolt publishers that will look at these numbers as being obtainable for their franchises and thus set their own budgets high on the basis of similar sales.
Message to those publishers: IT DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY! SCALE YOUR BUDGETS AND EXPECTATIONS BASED ON THE HISTORY OF THE FRANCHISE AND YOUR OTHER IPS! DONT' LUST OVER OTHER PUBLISHERS SALES!
TOMB RAIDER 2 AND RESIDENT EVIL 7 AIN'T GONNA MAKE $800 MILLION IN 24 HOURS! ACCEPT IT!

The bar gets higher and higher.

No pressure R* North, just break 2 billion dollars for GTAVI and you will be rewarded with making GTAVII through Infinity....

What's funny is news like this? It makes games sell even more as now people who don't have it are like "Really? Hmm, I should check it out.."

Do you have a link to those articles? I would like to read them. I think Pachter has commented on this as well.

Imagine if the Wonderful 101 sold this much, gaming would look so much different. That would be bizarro twilight zone gaming world.

Jeez. I bought every previous GTA but haven't bought this one yet. There are probably hundreds of thousands (millions?) of dudes like me just waiting a bit who will push this number higher.

Let´s say for argument´s sake that you are right, let´s not forget currency exchange. If R* makes €18 per game that´s 24.03$ per game. The game sales in Europe have bigger margin than the US.

According to an article by Eurogamer it is ~30%, not according to me, and this article is published 2011, the LAtimes is a 2010 article.

I picked the wordings "a while longer" on purpose, I am sorry for that, because it can be as long as I want/need it to be, again sorry, tomorrow absolutely profit will be made. Batshit insane sales it is.

Any "Top Pirated Games" list ever? You can poo-poo torrent trackers and say a DL != a lost sale (rightfully so in many cases), but at the end of the day, top console games don't break a million DL's (sometimes barely even 500k) while PC releases do 3, 4, or 5 million. It is beyond ignorant to claim that kind of ratio spread will not have an impact on cross platform console title sales. Even if you still believe it to be unfounded Bullshit, a lot publishers buy it and will continue to buy it, so you're arguing with the wrong guy here. Ubisoft have openly blamed piracy for their delayed and no-release PC titles.

So.... no, then?
