GTA4 in the wild - first gameplay videos

Everything I've seen looks downright awesome, and my hype isn't down by 1 fucking bit.

The graphics are really hot, the atmosphere looks great, the music is gonna be awesome ( except the hiphop station WTF rockstar why the fuck put Akon, Soulja Boy and Eminem in there :S :S :S custom soundtracks FTW I guess ), the story is going to be great and so are the missions.

But the driving just looks like ass from these vids is all I'm saying.

I think people have severely crappy computers and mistake their video stutters as framerate drops.

And the flash video framerate is low, also camera might not able to record over 24fps.

But most are look very smooth anyway. The stutter one on where the montion blur everywhere cos crap camera.

Car handling looks atrocious.

Your car looks to be riding on a waterbed. The bodyroll is so ridiculous and over the top, even at low speeds, that SUV got onto 2 wheels. WTF.

It's clearly miles ahead of any previous entry to the series.

Indeed, however it seems some people expected each element to be the best we've seen from other games. Not possible.

I agree though that the car physics/handling are very poor.

And of course Gametrailers will do one shortly afterward.
not looking forward to that. they'll have ps3 colors all wrong, no doubt. GT always has the worst comparisons.

Exactly. On the contrary, the view distance and the frame rate are a million times better than I expected.

So If I play drunk ( which I normally do ) and get drunk in the game will they cancel each other out and my vision appear normal??? :)

It's the way the camera is set up too...the fixed position as you move around throws me off a bit.

Considering there were complaints about the camera in the early previews but NOT of the car handling, I'll factor this into pirates who can't play games worth a damn than GTA. We'll find out in 5 days.

Which brings me to another point...this is why Rockstar needed to release their own gameplay footage a week before release. Instead of relying on some pros playing the game, we have gamers who may or may not be good at all.

I suppose. Its the reaction to the driving that just stun me here. They added a suspension system, drive a car like at and it will bounce. Some many people acting surprised and offended. 5 days XD

Watching the driving videos carefully, driving doesnt look amazing, but I don't think it looks bad. Difference seems like you need to slow down before you make a sharp turn because it looks like there is weight to how vehicles roll and it takes that into account.

Well you gotta admit, the car handling doesn't look too good right about now..

Because they dont know how to drive. Seriously, get someone who just plays GTA to screw around in game and they cant drive worth a damn.

I watch these videos and I'm left thinking: "Well, it certainly looks like GTA." They do little for me. :-(

What did you want? I mean it's the early parts of the game. Really it was just supposed to be GTA perfected with alot of nice new stuff added and the old stuff being refined.

You're not the only one. I'm not very impressed by these videos either.

I'm still buying though because it's freakin' GTA.

This is...you know the rest.
lol I know. There will always be a backlash. I have a feeling we are going to have a group on the boards trying to pull us away from 10 hour sessions to try and convince everyone "no, SR really is better" :D

I don't know what you expected it to look like, how many games in a popular franchise significantly change the core elements with each iteration?

It's all about refinement and finesse.

I might be playing it on saturday at a friends house, I've played all GTA's so I can give some decent impressions then :)

but it has the A and B button on the map screen. Its the 360 version.

not to mention XBL messages.
crap, I didn't see he wanted ps3 vids. I'm not sure which one then. If the 'aussie shotgun' vid is ps3 (I think) then that one. The gameplay at the end of the opening ps3 video is good too, but you might not want to watch that one (spoiler kind of :p)

Well that and the new physics engine makes things a little less arcadey, but just a little bit. So yeah, you'll probably roll over alot easier...but I havent seen anything blow up yet.

EDIT: ^ Never mind:lol

Watching these GTA IV videos has only made me appreciate how revolutionary GTA III really was.

There will never be something as "new" and "OMGWTFBBQ" as GTA III. Not for a long time at least.

Pretty sure that's 360 as well.

There was definitely one PS3 vid as it started in the XMB. Unfortunately from here on out I think it'll be nothing but 360 vids as the ISO is out to download for pirates. :(

well shit, I'm out. The opening credit sequence IS ps3 though, you can see him load it up. Other than that Maybe we are just viewing pirated versions (mostly). I know one vid had the guys unboxing his 360 version

The first vid was PS3 and started with XMB and did the game intro. But the quality of the video was so bad it was hard to judge anything.

All the X360 videos look gorgeous with great textures & great framerates. I'm planning on buying the PS3 version so I want to see some PS3 vids that look and run just as good to assure myself.
