GTTV: Bioshock 2 Debut Gameplay Video

what platform is this video from? it's got unreal AA... I only played the 1st one on 360 and it had horrible aliasing. Never finished it though, the darkness makes me feel nauseous.

does the PS3 version have improved AA over the 360?

The atmosphere is back, and I love it.

The comments that attempt to be funny about it looking the same are just stupid - it looks like a return to Rapture, in the same hardware generation as the first one - it's a sequel...

My thoughts exactly.

Looks good, but for a game series that was all about this incredible never-before-seen environment, it's kind of surprising to me that in the video and screens shown so far there's not really a big jump to something equally shocking and cool. So far, just more of the same. Not a bad thing, but not so special this time out.

Also, just curious, when will we get a videogame this generation with a good flashlight effect?

Horrible AA? I remember it being very smooth on my 360. And No graphically the 360 version was superior to the PS3 version.

Looks a lot like the first BioShock, which is not a bad thing.

I'm glad that you run at the same pace and stuff as the first game. I worried that playing as a Big Daddy you'd move slowly and have loud ass footsteps which would get annoying quickly.

The flashlight in Riddick is pretty cool, imo

Back on topic, though...the beginning portion of the video was awesome. Very cinematic.

Not really sure what to think of this, I enjoyed the first game for the most part but didn't feel it needed a sequel guess I'll wait and see how it turns out.

No, the only thing improved is some new textures and lighting.
What res do you play at anyways? I'm playing through Bioshock (PS3) and the aliasing isn't bad at all outside of the Securis doors.

It's just the Unreal engine then. Man, I hate the look of that engine.

Exactly how I feel. Especially after playing Riddick, BioShock 2 (and all things Unreal Engine 3) are starting to look a bit stale.

yeah, i've never played the PS3 version, the aliasing was from the 360 version at 720P with component cable.

Niiice.

Must say I'm a little disappointed with the way it looks. Like the first one... identical even. Still early I suppose so guess I shouldn't concern myself with that. Not to say the first one didn't look amazing, it's just i feel we should still be seeing improvements. My own ignorance.

Like a big daddy with all those added goodies. Cannot fucking wait. Loved the first one.

Well, looks like Bioshock. I'm still really skeptical about this, though I liked the first half of the vid...second, not so much.

And yeah, doesn't look like it changed graphically much, if at all. Sure there's still time, but I didn't find Bioshock to look all that great when I first played it(which was about a year ago).

So the first one looks, in your own words, amazing, this one looks like the first one, but you're still disappointed because of some odd expectations of quality progression? Just enjoying it for what it is, that's out of the question? Sometimes, I really don't get people.

I don't think it was ever that impressive, on a technical level. It was quite the achievement in terms of design, however, which matters a whole lot more to me than any tech savvy. They created a wholly believable yet fantastical world of opportunity under water, and I can't recall having seen anything else that offers such a precise mix of dread and wonder.

I really don't get the disappointment in some of the posts, I prefer they work on the game itself than wasting time trying to improve the graphics while still using the shitty UE

The only thing I'm worried about is the story, the first had an amazing script. Who's writing this one?

The submerged part looked neat, but I'm just not very excited to play this sequel. And I loved Bioshock when it first came out. Still not writing it off, though.

This looks like more Bioshock. I was hoping the atmosphere would actually be different like in space or a volcano or something. There are still guns and plasmas like in the old one.

I do not care about "checklist" sequels anymore. It's amazing how years ago that is all I would be looking forward to. When Timesplitters 2 came out I was always asking "How many more weapons? How many more maps? Halo 2 I asked the same thing. Then I started noticing in my favorite games those things didn't matter anymore. Half-Life 2 was all about atmosphere and moment to moment gameplay. Each MGS sequel was about the story and new innovations. Things that would surprise me. Not how it would amp up the existing gameplay by just doubling weapons or something else just as meaningless..

And so with Bioshock 2 nothing it going to excite me until I actually play the game. Dual wielding? Um whatever all I really care is that it's exciting, scary, beautiful, and the story keeps me interested. So far I will say it looks good.

That looked badass. Although I hope it sticks with the first game's philosophy of not requiring you to be an FPS whiz to get through most of it.

The sequence with chasing down that... thing in the first half of the video was just great, particularly its/her animation.

Ehhhhh....

I dunno about this one. I LOVE BIOSHOCK SO MUCH, but the whole setting/premise just seems so inappropriate for the sequel/franchise treatment.

The footage looked great, but it seems like the same game.

Looks pretty good, but jesus christ, at the very least change the damn GUI. It's identical to the first game, and I bet it's the thing that contributes the most to the "samey" look.

Looks like they paid more attention to the gameplay mechanics. Hopefully they paid the same amount attention to the atmosphere and really give us a better story than the original. Not saying the original had a terrible story but at this point the game needs one to make it more memorable than the first.
