Gonna be holding off until probably the Fall, let others be the guinea pigs and allow whatever revisions from AIBs that may come out do so and probably take advantage of the bundles that will show up, after it being pointed out in the 1080 review topic I'm expecting Mafia 3 now, value of my EVGA 970 SSC (ACX2.0+ revision) will drop further but oh well.

The paperest of all paper launches begins.
:(

I was about to buy a 970 for a new PC build, but that just seems... wrong now with the 1070 so close and getting rave reviews. I don't think the 970 prices will fall substantially more further compared to the ~270€ we're seeing now (German price for KFA and Gainward cards at mindfactory.de) and I could fit another extra ~150€ in my budget for a partner 1070 card.

My only concern is that with the high demand I'm going to have to wait longer than I initially planned with everything, even if I go in on the first wave of partner cards.

Aaaaaand sadly this will be five billion dollars here in Canada. Probably just going to pick up another 960 and SLI them and ride that out until I can't even play stuff on low :(

Our currency is garbage

Canada computers wants like $800 or some shit for it according to reddit. It's like double the conversion price =S

It's crazy how much it is in peoples best interest to not support this, and yet people can't resist. Paying more for inferior products has never been so appealing!

Yeah, and I'm sure an overwhelming amount of these people already have a GPU that can easily tide them over a few extra weeks.

Most of the "I gotta have it!" posts on reddit I've seen were by people who already have a 9XX card. >_>

Same with the 1080 FE.

People with more patience and sense than money will wait for the cheaper versions of the cards with coolers designed by EVGA, MSI and the like instead of throwing extra money away at an inferior product.

No surprise, since you can make this argument about almost everything in gaming. If you can wait a year, you can get most games for half price or less on Steam, with the bugs and balance issues already patched out. Wait 5 years and you can play games on integrated graphics, so you don't even need to buy a GPU and the game is probably selling for $10 or less with a GOTY edition that includes all the DLC. Yet tons of people still buy games on launch day.

I've never bought from B&H before but I always thought they were a reputable place of business. Why are they selling the pre-order for over a 3rd of the MSRP? It has to be a typo or these are really 1080s but someone made a mistake listing the product.

...and just like that, another notification of the same card, same price, same company. Guess it's real. I hope when they go live on AmZon in a few days the pre-orders there are more inline with the value of the card.

Also, remind to never buy anything from B&H. Just totally disagree with the way they do business.

I will be patiently waiting for a EVGA FTW edition or something similar. Probably going to be a month or two, but i'll wait.

I don't understand this post.

A $400 card is up for pre-order for $600. It's not a scalper putting the price up. It's a store many people go to to get computer graphics cards. I'm not interested in doing business with a store who employs these practices onto its customers.

Hoping my Microcenter gets some, so I can take off and wait in front of the doors for hours, only to not get one.

No, seriously though, the pre-order mess is slightly annoying.

Would it be a waste pairing this up with a PII X4 965? I was thinking of saving towards a new build this winter but can't afford to go get a new MOBO/CPU in addition to card.

Depends on what videocard you have now. If it's CPU limited already then you're better off upgrading the platform first. If not then going with 1070 first will give you at least some performance.

B&H had GTX 1070 FE pre-orders from some of the major graphics card distributors (ASUS, Gigabyte, EVGA, etc.) for retail $450 when I checked this morning around 7am PST.

They all gone now. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I suppose. You'd have to be out of your mind to buy a Founder's Edition card though, they're more expensive and have thermal throttling issues that cheaper board partner cards like the EVGAs and MSIs won't suffer from. It's not like waiting a year or five years, it's waiting a month or two.

You might have a small PC and want a blower card? But even then I'd get the cheap MSI one

Save up and get the whole thing. It's not worth getting a GPU that good with a CPU that bad. You'll be bottlenecked anyway so the GPU would go to waste.

It's okay, I'm in the same situation you'll still get a lot of value out of the card. However it is getting limited by the CPU seeing how the 9-series already performs better with newer CPUs.

I was thinking of getting a used 970 (currently using 950) but I will eventually end up replacing it with a 10XX in a year or so anyways. Seems better to pay extra now and not have the hassle and extra money spent later on when the 970 starts to struggle.

This doesn't even qualify as a paper launch. It's a sticky note launch. It's painfully obvious that this launch was rushed to beat AMD, which didn't even end up making any sense to do considering that they aren't even aiming for the same segments.

Oops. Typo. I meant to say 1070. But I guess I would be interested to know about the 1080 too. Unless that extra bit of info offends your sensibilities in some way.

I like how at first you revealed that you in fact made a typo that made your post irrelevant to the thread, and then tried to say I was somehow offended lol.

And no you aren't going to bottleneck either with a Haswell iSeries anytime in the near future.

Stop being offended.

I like the idea of this as a sticky note release. Made me laugh.

Because 1070s are cut-down version of 1080s, will they be more readily available? I imagine the 1080 has to be pretty pristine to pass the smell test where to qualify as a 1070 it can have a few blemishes, meaning more wafers are usable for the cut-down version.

Is it more random? Or do only a small percentage make the 1070 cut?

I'm sure I could google all this but what else are we going to do as we wait for NVIDIA to gets its act in gear?
