If you had to read one GotG trade paperback, what would it be?

Looking at the ridiculous price these have inflated to, I recommend the kindle version.
Do they fight Thanos?
Not in that specific book. If you continue reading the series he eventually shows up though. It culminates in the event The Thanos Imperative, which basically ends the entire cosmic marvel story (which included this GotG run among other books).
His final heel run when he was a total diva was the best.I really do miss him in WWE.

"YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE MAH FRIEND!"
I'm still not convinced that general audiences will be receptive to a anthropomorphic raccoon without any explanation as to why. This is kind of why I dislike geek culture in modern day cinema. Especially in regards to The Avengers, which felt like too much AWESOME ACTION for the nerd audiences, and that's why it kinda fell flat for me. Joss Whedon's humour didn't help much, either. I'm still trying to be optimistic for this one, but I can't help but feel more or less indifferent for this one.

Comic book fans: Yes.I think you'll be wrong
Comic book fans: Yes.
General Audiences: AHHH-HAHAHAHA.
I mean, we're not the general audience, here. We're the group who tends to read more into this sort of thing by buying comic books and such.
Also, is it odd for me to think that I can take a Norse god more seriously than a weaponised raccoon? Or even a guy who can shift size as a superpower?
I can't really nail it down, but I think it's the context of the thing. I'm saying, where did he come from, what did he do to become what he is, and such and such. I can't help but feel that this is the sort of thing that should really stay in the comics, much like Antman wasn't in The Avengers...that is until next year where we get to see him on screen. Ho, boy.Why do you need to take Rocket Raccoon seriously?

I can at least buy into the fact that Chewie was an alien, because, well...massive universe where anything earth related need not apply (okay, I might have contradicted myself to an extent, right there).I don't think that very many moviegoers really cared about where Chewbacca came from either.
I really need to watch the Watchmen movie already (see what I did there? *grabs coat*).No one ('cept for comics readers) expected a blue penis on the big screen, and it did happen.

And the Academy Award goes to..Dave Batista!

If you're looking Guardians of the Galaxy specific, then the one that TDLink already linked you. Anything Abnett and Lanning is golden.
I always wondered why heroes who fly through space wrecking shit insist on wearing stuff that looks like spandex and having capes...
That graphic doesn't have X-Men: Rise and Fall of the Shi'ar Empire, which sets up a good chunk of War of Kings. Solid list otherwise.

so it's a tough raccoon with a big gun.
Sounds like a internet meme or some junk like the whole dinosaurs with guns thing.
I don't get it :\
He came from space.
He is a space raccoon and always was a space raccoon.
That's really all that matters and even if they do want to explain more about his origin, that doesn't necessarily mean that the character needs to be serious. The very nature of a trigger-happy space raccoon kinda goes against that.
Yeah, In spite of all the stuff I'm seeing, there's just something about this I just can't get behind. I guess it's just the whole "anthropomorphic, trigger happy raccoon who comes from space" thing. I want to take this character seriously, but I just can't. I mean, the Marvel Cinematic Universe I guess, or at least was grounded enough, while still playing by its own rules to me to get behind, but it seems that with this, and Antman, I just can't seem to get behind them. Maybe my opinion will change over time or if I do seem them on screen, but until then, I'm just gonna take it like I see it.What's there not to get?

So is Nova in this or what?
John C. Reilly is cast as Rhomann Dey

What the fuck
You didn't know that? I saw a set photo, he looked great.
Maybe I just said that wrong. I don't mean to take him that seriously, but I just find him...well, too out there. You want to take the heavy weapons wielding anthropomorphic raccoon seriously? Are you fucking daft?
He's *supposed* to be ridiculous.
So you can behind a green rage monster, but not a machine gun wielding raccoon? Dude, Rocket Raccoon is an awesome character. He's legitimately bad ass and not just a mascot on the team. He's basically the tactician and Peter Quill (Star-Lord) leads them. The MCU is "grounded" enough, but not Nolan level grounded where they don't powers. Watch him become the Wolverine of Marvel Studios.
Ant-Man is simple enough. He changes sizes. Although, Hank Pym is the reason why is so interesting. Scott Lang can choke on one by the way. Hank Pym is the rightful Ant-Man.
I think for me, it's the whole logic behind the thing. I mean, I love stuff like Independence Day in which you really don't have to take it seriously, but with the way that the MCU went with its other characters, I am supposed to question as to way Rocket Raccoon is what he is. As I said before, my opinion might change later down the line, so don't think that I'm stubborn in regards to this.Still, you're not really supposed to take Rocket seriously. Not saying he isn't a legitimate character, but you're just supposed to roll with it instead of question why. That just sucks the fun right out of it.

Okay, maybe I'm just rambling at this point.
Bendis' Rocket Raccoon will never touch Abnett and Lanning's:

That panel with Bendis' Rocket Raccoon almost made me drop the book. Abnett and Lanning's GotG was one of the most enjoyable comic books I've ever read and these panels show it.
You guys take your rocket raccoon way too fucking seriously.
Just rewatched "Slither" last night. Surprised a couple people who were watching with us when I told them "Yeah, that's the guy making the Guardians movie."
