GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY - Trailer #3

As excited as I am for the movie, the performances from the trailers are grating me a bit. Pratt isn't hitting the lines as well as I expected and I really struggle to de-Cooper Cooper. I'll probably sink into it better when I'm watching a cohesive narrative instead of random snippets, but there you go.

Yo does guardians of the galaxy seem like it will tie into the phase 3 marvel stuff? Any comic book arcs that seem like they would intercept with thanks or galacticus?

Yeah. Hoping it's just the way the trailers are cut.

Marvel can't use Galactus in their movies. Thanos is in GOTG and while it likely won't tie in directly to any Phase 3 movie in a big way, it will serve as his real introduction to the MCU prior to his eventual appearance in Avengers 3. With all the Infinity Gems/Stones being introduced throughout Phase 1 and 2, GOTG also has its own that will play a role in what will probably be an adaptation of the Infinity Gauntlet saga.

Half a bottle of scotch and you won't even notice

Thanks, I hadn't noticed the infinity gems yet... Or realized what they were, good to know!

They're pretty different in the MCU - it seems like instead of gems, they're just the various McGuffins from all the films (the Tesseract, Loki's staff, Aether and presumably the orb that Star-Lord is attempting to steal in the GotG trailers). So 3 more to go, I think.

haven't seen much of benicio del toro in these trailers. i think he's the best actor in here so i'm looking forward to seeing scenes of the collector.

the marketing has been pushing lee pace's villain more so far.

Saw this at Reddit. James Gunn talks about his final week of working in GoTG. Ignore if old.

An excerpt:

There isn’t much left. I’m still playing with the sound mix and the 3D and the DI (digital intermediate – basically the color-timing) – and there are some outstanding visual effects shots. But I still want to do what I can with what I have left to make the most stunning film I can for you guys on August 1! I think the Marvel producers are starting to understand my almost psychotic inability to be happy with anything, and to pick apart things to the very bitter end. They’re going to have to tear this movie from my bloody grip.

James Gunn spoke to the Nerdist.com to clear up the rumours once and for all saying, “Nathan Fillion is not Nova". He added, “There’s so much bullshit on the internet. I woke up – first it’s ‘Nathan’s Nova!’, then there are articles all over saying Nathan’s Cosmo. It’s like, ‘What?!’ Nathan’s role is a very small cameo that I wanted to give to Nathan because I love working with him and I think it’s lucky for me to have Nathan in all of my movies. At the same time I wanted to give him something where Nathan could have a larger role in the Marvel Universe if either Joss [Whedon] or I or whoever chose to do that in the future. Which I would love to do".

Gunn continued, "I would love to give Nathan something he could really chew on, but it didn’t work out on this movie for two reasons. Number one — because he was shooting Castle. And number two, because it just wasn’t the right exact role for him.” And lastly, the director confirmed that there's won't be Nova in the film, "You won’t see the Nova character in the film. You’ll see the Nova Corps.”

Fillion to be Captain Mal getting arrested by the Nova Corps.

I am guessing based on this that Fillion will either:

A. Be playing a voice over role (but not Cosmo), to allow him to be something else in the MCU possibly

B. Be playing a character with future MCU potential, but with only a minor role in this film

I'm guessing option A personally.

So I was looking at Lego GoTG on the Lego website and...uh...guys?

"Also known as Ronan the Accuser. As the son of Thanos, Ronan has incredible power and strength, and will stop at nothing to recover the Orb. With his Cosmi Rod, and his loyal soldiers at his side, he is nearly unstoppable!"

Probably nothing.

Ronan is Thanos' son in the Ultimate universe, so there is a source for that.

Can't believe I'm doing a triple post...

Edit: Heh, I'm actually not.

In the comments section of the Facebook post, fans asked James Gunn why Yondu doesn't have the big red fin in Guardians of the Galaxy that he has in Marvel Comics. "Rooker is my friend, but he is clumsy and I don't want him knocking his head off walking through doorways," the director quipped . "I'm in a surreal situation where the biggest disappointment expressed by some fans over the comics-to-movie translation is that Michael Rooker doesn't have a flamboyant and flowing three foot red fin atop his head." Gunn then added, "He does have a fin and it is very awesome it's just very short. I could have done a lot of things but I helped to design the way he looks because I like it better and believe it."

UK posters for Rocket and Groot:

I really hope Guardians Of The Galaxy is not a case of "the trailer is better than the movie".

Please, please be a good movie! :D
