Guess the PS3 price?

$499

It will be worth the price.

Blu-Ray
Innovative controller (Gyro-Shock will steal revolutions thunder)
Latest nVidia GPU tech (Chaperone will steal the thunder of Xenos)

It'll probably come out at $399.99 for all the early adopters. Once the system gets some traction, it'll drop to $279.99 or 299.99, followed by a quieter version, then a miniaturized version for $149 years down the road. :) I hope Sony doesn't release more than one variant at launch, though.

I think both of the higher prices are reasonable for a Blu-Ray capable player w/ HDMI and whatever power the game side will provide.

I have my suspicions, though, that because they're the market leader, they'll spin a $499.99 price and come up with some "cool"-sounding reasons why it costs more... I think it's about time a system comes with a good pack-in game again. Most of my gameplaying friends are already sold on the PS3, regardless of cost (within reason).

39,980 for the machine
49,980 for the machine and the HDD set
14,980 for the HDD set alone

One SKU $399.99: Blu-ray, built in wifi, one wireless controller, brd demo disc and composite cables (:))

Sold seperately (ie where they start the bilking): proprietary hdmi, svideo and component cables, additional batarangs, batarang charger, USB headset and various sizes/prices of Sony's pro duo memory sticks.

Total sum after you get home with your chosen peripherals and a couple launch games: "That $399 sure looked nice all by its lonesome."

Also Ill go out on a limb and say optional HDD arrives well post launch, maybe within the next year. HD Eye Toy 2 shortly thereafter. Online service free out of the box with universal handle and more robust/integrated than a lot of people are expecting.

It has a normal HDMI port. Hooray for $4 HDMI cables at monoprice.com!

My guess is $349 US or $299 US depending on included accessories. Like how in Japan they sold a barebones PSP for around $200 but we never got that here.

I'm going to say and hope 299.99, because it would be checkmate in a game Sony has played with M$ since last E3.
Realistically, I can see it go for 499.99

my guesses:

japan: april 20, 2006 @ 45,000 yen
usa: september 9, 2006 @ 349$
europe: january 9, 2007 @ 349 euros

King Ken will claim the right of Prima Nocte and have his way with your mom/wife/girlfriend/sister and charge you an additional 2 shillings and a sixpence.

I'm gonna go with this one too. 6 months ago, I would have laughed. Since the Gigapack (and that the fucker actually seemed to sell), I am scared at the financial hit launch folk are gonna take. I don't know if I'll hop on a $400 system since game prices are also gonna be bananas. I might be waiting for the used bins to fill up. I'm still gonna preorder a few, though. Capitalism ftw. PEACE.

*coughcoughstringercoughcough*

With a loss it should be around the same price as a Blu Ray player IMO, maybe a little cheaper. $500 at least I'd say.

399 with no HD. Won't be higher or many consumers will be turned off.

Then again, if they market Blu-Ray well, I can see it costing 499. Anything above 499, no sale for most no matter what.

if you add up the cost of a high-end blu ray player, the latest nvidia graphics card, and one of those chess-playing ibm supercomputers, it's obvious that ps3 will cost about $2000 in a cell-free "tard pack" configuration, and that you'll have to spend another several million if you want to play any games.

if the PS3 launches here in April,
and if the rumour that the games are region free is true,
and given that JPN and US is now the same region for Bluray...

who the hell WON'T import?!

given how fond Sony were of the whole importing Japanese modules into Euro land, i wonder if they'll go for a simultaneous global launch in Sept?

IN japan where it'll launch at the end or this fiscal or begining of next fiscal it'll retail for no less then 58,000 yen(about 500 USD). By the time it comes stateside I'm thinking it'll be worth 399 USD or perhaps a PSP style deluxe only version for 499 USD that comes with a bluray movie of some sort(possibly spiderman1/2) and bluray media disc explaining how it's the best thing ever and you should totally rebuy every dvd on bluray and get a 3000 dollar TV, along with a demo disc containing videos and demo's of most or all of the PS3 american launch lineup. I also predict bluray movies will be 40 USD a pop instead of the 15-20 that dvd's are and games for psp will ALL be 60 USD , possibly even as much as 70 USD for bluray based games.

UK folks will get screwed over the most though, I predict the PS3 won't be out until 2007 over there and it'll cost 650 euro's.

For The Motherfucking Win

It costs the same as Xbox 360 PP.

It lacks the HDD but has BR drive instead.

$399.99 if they don't wan't to blaze right through or can't(production issues)
$349.99 if they wan't to undercut the competition and surpass it's userbase as quickly as possible(assuming production's up to snuff.)

I have not been paying attention to regions. USA and Japan are the same region for Blu Ray? Hot. No mod needed for importing now!

I'll still wait for USA release though.

I predict $349. I think the system is going to come in lower than people are expecting.

yes apparently so. And yes... that's VERY hot.

AS LONG as Amazon and the like keep shipping movies to Japan (which they might stop?)

the price difference between DVDs in Japan and the US is obscene, so hopefully the next movie generation will reset the movie costs at a reasonable level.

with some DVDs hitting $60 here, i would not die of shock if we get asked to pay $80 for BR/HD-DVD over here in Japan.
