Guild Wars 2 is half off until May 11

The combat is much improved from launch. Skills and evades need much more careful consideration due to an increase in difficulty. I'm enjoying it much more now than half a year ago, definitely recommend giving it a go.

So Vindictus not having MM aspect relates to its combat how? It still has dungeons and raids and other MMORPG stuff but it's just instanced. Shame it turned out to be P2W. It was amazing in the beginning.
Well... it not being an MMO relates deeply to its combat in that creating a fluid, impactful combat system is an easier undertaking when a) it is only meant to be applied in relatively controlled conditions with relatively small numbers of players, and b) the vast majority of a game's design focus centers around it rather than a huge number of other interrelated systems. The games that have even better combat systems than Vindictus or TERA, outright action or fighting games, typically don't allow for more than 2-4 players simultaneously, and the games with the absolute best combat engines are typically singleplayer-only.

But anyway, that doesn't have anything to do with why I mentioned it, I said that solely in response to using it as a counterpoint to GW2 just having the "same old MMO button spamming." I thought it was a bit of an unfair comparison as they are different types of games, and TERA would be a better one.

I too played Vindictus until I realized it was P2W and then quit.

So there's no controller support if I'm running Windows 8? Pretty much the only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger.

I'm guessing it'll work with the Steam controller, whenever it comes out. It's supposed to show up in game as regular mouse and keyboard input, and work with just about anything.

Anyone else on verizon fios(NY) and is stuck at 0kb/s?

Apparently it's a common issue for verizon users?!?!

Not sure if I should get a refund or wait for a few days but from what I read so far, its common occurrence. :(

Not sure if this trick still works, but you might try changing the language option to something other than English and see if it downloads. You can then switch back once it's done and should be able to play.

You mean for the client language or windows language?

Because I am stuck at 0kb/s when I double-click the client itself. :(
So I do not even have the client downloaded/installed. Just the Gw2Setup.exe that took 30 minutes to download!

Yup, should have read more closely. Having the exact same issue (have FiOS in NY). This is fucking ridiculous. Waste of money; I'm going to try and get a refund.

Well, to be fair it isn't exactly the game's fault that Verizon is causing issues.

Some folks might want to try this, it should work for the initial download, after that the language-trick might work: https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/support/tech/Installer-is-not-downloading/first#post3987073

True, but it's clearly some issue with the client not connecting. I don't see why it's a Verizon issue when I've never experienced something like that. If I can't play the game, or go through a hassle to try, I'd rather a refund. I tried using my VPN but it was slow. I imagine the game is huge.

Clearly there is an issue somewhere, either on verizon or gw end. Most of the reports I read mentioned verizon as their ISP.

I will try and download with VPN but I sure won't be playing it with VPN enabled.
