Hi folks, just to confirm, the sign ups last week are for a chance at the next (end of march) and following beta events for #GuildWars2 ~AT
From MMORPG.com:
"Guild Wars 2s next closed beta test is scheduled for late-March..."
Confirmed by GW2 tweet:
"confirmed, in the past hour we released that news to the press ~AT"
1 more month to wait. ARrrrrrrrrrgh !
Long wait for the beta but it'll be more than worth it. My guess is they are making the inprovements from the press beta.
Its only a month away.

So how many people are interested in the beta just so they can play an unfinished game instead of to actually provide feedback, criticism and suggestions?
If ArenaNet's going to be receptive to player feedback and isn't just putting on a show, of course. Although, technically, a beta is supposed to be feature-complete.

It'll probably be feature complete but there will most likely still be some balancing issues and judging by the scope of the game, there will definitely be some bugs that might have been missed.
I take it you'll be giving away your slot if you get in?Extremely disappointed by the beta date. There goes all the momentum they built up, as well as my hype.

Uh, from what I saw of the closed press beta the game looked good to me, framerate issues aside. And no, I'm not too pleased that the beta's going to happen right before/during finals.Nah, that's not how it works. They get you all pooched up, then they back off and tease you a bit. It all builds up to a more satisfying experience in the end. Would you rather they just shove a limp and unprepared game at you early, or pound your brains out with a huge veiny masterpiece that leaves you forever changed and keeps you in your seat for several days?
Tha sounds very likely in my view. I think the version we're getting for that first beta is going to be very, very close to retail. They'll use april for bug fixing and then it'll be out at the end of May or beginning of June.I know this will inevitably be proven wrong and I am completely talking out my ass, but here's what I'm wildly optimistic the schedule could be;
- Launch Date revealed in mid-march, launch set for Tuesday, May 29th (Yes, 2012)
- Beta Events bi-weekly through April and early May.
- Head Start for pre-orders on the long Memorial Day weekend (May 26 - 28th)
- Official Launch on 29th.

I too was hoping it would be sooner, that's right before my wedding! :/
Get married earlier, honeymoon in Tyria.
GW2 will be her gateway drug to gaming... well maybe not but I have to try!
Don't get your hopes up, start with Bejeweled like the rest of us.
Actually I checked my schedule, my exams don't start until mid-april, so I guess I'm okay. A lot of assignments due late march thoughIt's been a while, but I seem to recall all of my finals being over before Memorial Day. Then again, I went to a shite school, so what do I know?
I will be taking those days off too as we will celebrate it with you!But it means my wife and I are both off work for 3 days straight and she'd have to use one less vacation day to take the whole week. We're planning to have a little nerd festival like when we were in college.

I guess I'm just disappointed because all of this information overload and beta signup had me thinking it would be within a week or two.

Me too. It would be just fine either way, but the earlier the better. Game is so polished I can see my reflection in it.With hopefully no big hiccups I could see it shaking up somewhat like this. If June was even likely I would be happy.
I think not releasing it during the summer would be a huge mistake.Yeah, at this point we don't even have a launch date. As far as we know, it could be December, but I sure as hell hope not.
They know what they're doing. I wouldn't get your hopes up for a May release, amazing as that would be, but letting the summer pass without it being open to the hordes would be shocking.
This is an idle question more than anything, but when people talk about the beta event taking place over a weekend, are we assuming that based on what they've done in the past, or have they ever specifically said that it will be over a weekend?
I ask not because I think it's wrong to assume that it will last only for a weekend (because that seems very, very likely), but because it just seems like a strange practice to go to the trouble of having an NDA so strict that you can't even tell people that you're under NDA and run things like an honest-to-god beta test instead of a "beta" demo, if you're only going to keep things open for two days at a time, and (potentially) extend the invitation to a different group of players for each test event.

Track record. GW1 was like that I hear, and Press Beta was on a weekend. People just have more free time on weekends to try this out.
I only see this as a very good thing. March will be used to finalise all the last content and balance/fix as many bugs as possible that were found in the the press beta. Arenanet know that most people will use the weekends as a demo for the final product and want the game to be as finished as possible so they are making a last push to get it as close to the retail product as they can.
They will use April and May to stress test the game and fix the reported bugs from the beta weekends and then the game will be released at the very end of May, possibly early June, but not later imo.
I think we can expect a release date in March too and preorder details. That's my two cents anyways.
I reinstalled Guild Wars 1 to work on the HoM while waiting for GW2.
Christ, that game is overwhelming. Even the "beginner" guides for the HoM is written like you have been playing the game for 5 years. I've read a dozen different guides, studied builds and scoured forums. Then I log on and
Had the same problem when I rejoined after having not played since the release of Prophecies (2005).I reinstalled Guild Wars 1 to work on the HoM while waiting for GW2.

Yeah. I've been trying to get back into it to get my HoM stuff, but it's so slow. Finding good builds for all my heroes is a pain in the ass when you've been away from the game for a couple years. So overwhelming.
I have the all campaigns and the expansion already beat, but it's just getting going with builds I'm having issues with. Both for my ranger and heroes.
