Guitar Hero II (360) -- April 3rd

I can't believe I bought this game again. I'm a GH fiend. It's one of my favorite games, I had too.

LT = Green
LB = Red
RB = Yellow
RT = Blue
A = Orange

Bass parts are usually pretty easy and they are fun to play with the controller aswell.

So new guitar in hand, got through a couple songs. My hands freaking hurt, what happened to my 5 hours a day of practice dexterity :(

But its ok. I'm 17000 on the leaderboard and i'm going to sleep. Wonder where I'll be when I wake up. Prolly around 100,000

On the other hand, there are already at least 20,000 people playing this, 5/2 hours after its release. Hawt.
 
please tell me u cant play single player with a controller. that's just begging for achievement whores to play it that way. i dont know why it makes me mad but it does.

I tried it on the PS2 version once and it's nowhere near easier, especially for the harder solos later in the game.
 
Can someone please let me know if Red Octane required a signature when you recieved your shipment?


I just called UPS, and they told me that they don't know this information. I find that unbelievable, but they said that Red Octane is the one who decides such things.

Re: Achievements without the guitar - that's like saying I hope no one cheats at the Counterstrike PC tournament and plugs in an Xbox controller. The game will destroy your little fingers with the regular controller.
 
Circuit City has the game with the free 1600 point card available online at the moment.


With the free shippping too as I placed an order earlier this morning. Just got a shipping confirmation about an hour ago. Interestingly the game and card are shipping seperately from each other.

Didn't you just make a thread like last week about how you were going to buy Top Spin 2 again? And you already traded it in? How many games do you actually keep? :lol

I got the game at CC this morning. It was no where to be found, so I asked a guy about it, and he went in back for like five minutes and came out with the entire pallet, cracked the box open and gave me one.

I sort of like the feel of the X-plorer; you can fit the corner a bit on your elbow so you don't need to use the strap. It's worked out for me so far.
 
Broke down and got this w/ Amazon Prime. Didn't think I would since I've been enjoying R6 a lot, but it just looked too fun to resist.
 
I wasn't even thinking about getting this until i walked into blockbuster to return a movie and saw it. It was the last one there so i folded. This game is ****ing awesome.

This shit is sitting in my stairwell in front of my apartment (don't worry, thieves, it's a walk up) and I'm at work.
 
It would be awesome if they did "Live Album" song packs for DLC. Assuming they could get the rights to all the original versions of the songs, how cool would it be to play through the entire album set of "Frampton Comes Alive" or "KISS Alive II?"

Well the tennis bug came and went with the release of Virtua Tennis... I got my fill of Top Spin 2 for about 5 hours. I bought the game for 15 bucks new and traded it in today for 20. So it was worth it to let go of it.... I still have table tennis if I get the bug anyway...

I play a lot of games, but keep my collection number usually hovering around the 20 game mark... I currently have 17 360 games now... Being that I had never played the guitar hero series before, I thought now would be a good time to see what they hype was about.

Plus how can you not like the appeal of a game that probably gets significantly better after a 6-pack?

Mine's sitting on the floor behind me as I'm trying to finish my work day... then I've got previous obligations, it'll be hours after I get out of work before I'll be able to play...

I probably can't play this until Friday....

But I knew if I didn't snag it today, then I probably wouldn't be able to get it for about another month with the demand....

I guess I'll have to find some other games to keep me occupied while I see all of you guys strumming it up tonight...
 
While I'm looking forward to GH1 songs being added as DLC, and hoping there'll be some all new stuff as well, I'm not sure that I believe that we're gonna get tons of new songs never featured in any GH game. Yeah, they'll get their money back from all the people who'll download them, but I kind of feel like if Harmonix/Activision are gonna get tons of licenses to new songs, they're gonna stick them in GH3 or another game. Hopefully I'm wrong; I know that they can probably make more money by selling five songs for $5 than by putting those same songs in a new release, so who knows. I know that they've said that GH2 will have more DLC than any game yet, I'm just interested to see what exactly it'll be.

One odd thing I noticed about GH2 is that it doesn't fill the entire screen. There's a small black border around the entire picture. I haven't seen any other 360 games like this. My set has 0% overscan though, so I'm sure a lot of people won't even notice this.
 
I love the new guitar. It feels really solid, nice weight to it. The new fret buttons are great. They seem to be closer together. The HOPOs in the verses of "Who Was in My Room Last Night?"were much easier, and I held a combo for much longer than I'm used to.

The audio is significantly better, I could hear instruments and vocals much more clearly than on the PS2 games, like the maracas (I think they're maracas) in "Girlfriend".

At first i wasn't sure if it would be worth it to upgrade to the 360 version, now I'm glad I did. With the ten new tracks, shorter load times, cleaner graphics and the DLC in the pipeline, it's a great purchase.

Oh and the Ounce of Self song, "Drink Up", is really fun to play. Along with, I'm ashamed to say, the My Chemical Romance song.

Goddamn I love guitar hero. I could give a crap about Rock Band, all I want is my axe and a steady stream of new songs and I'll be set for life.
 
My Whammy Bar does not work. Well it works sometimes, like one time out of 20.

Bah, and of course they are sold out so I can't exchange it.

I noticed this in Training, but in Career/Freeplay it seems fine.
 
Mine finally shipped from Red Octane. I was hoping to play tomorrow and dig into a case of beer after my Series 7 exam tomorrow, but I guess I will put off the celebration or disappointment until it arrives. I am glad to hear it turned out well.
 
I was on the fence about buying this, but when I walked into Best Buy at lunch and saw a stack of 20 of them, I couldn't resist the siren's call. Can't wait to play this tonight.
 
OK...I am GH newb here but I am absolutely loving it. Just one question for the vets though. When do I grow my 6th and 7th fingers that make playing on anything other than EASY possible?

Hold your fingers in groups of four and shift them left and right. Don't get in the habit of stretching.

Don't worry, you'll get used to it the more you play. I'm not gonna lie, there are people who are just naturally talented at these types of games. But I think pretty much anyone can beat the game on medium or even hard if they put enough time into it.

index = green
middle = red
ring = yellow
pinky = blue

then whenever you need to hit orange notes, it's usually best to get in the habit of sliding your hand down so that

index = red
middle = yellow
ring = blue
pinky = orange

Of course, the challenge is making sure the part of your brain that controls the position your fingers are in sync with the part of the brain telling you which note to play. Otherwise, you end up doing things using your middle finger to play the red note, when it's actually on top of the yellow fret :lol
 
I can only get 4 stars on YYZ on medium...its the last song I need 5 stars in. This is the only game where repetition is the best part.
 
Apparently there are two guitars with the top with the good whammy bar and the bottom one having a sucky one.

I got the last 1600 point card at my CC. I needed a reason to justify owning this again since I have the game and 2 guitars for the PS2 and figure I won't see what amounts to a $20 off deal any time soon. Bring on the microtransactions!
 
How are the load times on this? Also, can you skip right to the song? I never played GH2, but on the first one I would get frustrated having to restart the song several times (I curse you "No One Knows") because you couldn't start over right away.

Restarts are instant in GH2 on PS2 and 360.

Generally load times are much quicker. The training loaded up so quickly, I didn't have time to read the loading screen.

Thanks for the tips guys. I hope I am able to get good enough to play this on the more difficult levels becuase it just seems more fun. I did have this moment while playing Killing in the Name Of where everything just clicked and I felt like a freaking rock star. :lol

We are having a little Wii/GHII get together this Friday and my goal is to unlock as many songs as possible before then. Where is Sweet Child O' Mine?

I played the 360 demo at a Best Buy about a week ago. Excuse me for asking(cause I really don't know the series too well)...but are these songs performed by the original artists? From what I played of the demo at Best Buy this was not the case.:(

I have the bottom one, and mine is fine. Granted there is a small dead zone to it, but it's obvious when you leave that dead zone and start activating the star power. It works fine.

He may have them mixed up.

I don't remember exactly where it is, but Sweet Child O' Mine is one of the "encore" songs, so it won't originally show up. I think it's in like the 4th or 5th group maybe?

what exactly is supposed to be sucky about it? i have the bottom one and it seems to work fine, but i've not messed with guitar hero before. haven't had a problem with the whammy bar working.
