Guitar Hero II (360) -- April 3rd

Hey guys. Looked through a few pages, but can't seem to find any mention about cord length.

I'm about to head to the store to pick this up, but aren't sure if I should try to pick up a controller extention cord or not (I only have wireless controllers for the 360 so far)....anyone have an estimate on how long the pack-in cord is? Thanks..

I believe someone measured it to 9 or 10 feet.

I still can't do the hammer-ons and pull-offs in GH1. That's why I'm really looking forward to having the GH1 songs available to DL for the 360 version of GH2. GH2's system of hammer-ons is MUCH easier than the first game.

edit - and for people curious about hammer-ons, you can play the entire last part of Laid to Rest on expert (like 100 notes or something) with only 1 strum.

"Mic Check" DLC. Come on. How hard could it be?

hah, that's actually the song that first got me into Rage

It's funny, because i've always primarily a hip-hop fan (with a little bit of rock here and there), but Guitar Hero is giving me a whole new appreciation for rock that I never really had before.

How do you get "star power" in co-op? We've tried hitting select and lifting the guitars up at the asme time, etc. to no avail.

Which is orgasmic until you accidentally **** up and your hand is nowhere near the strum bar, hehe.

Same here...Rage was the only rock band I was ever into..."rapcore" i guess.

I need a better explanation...Im not an expert yet.

Go through the hammer-on tutorial and you should understand. Hammer-ons and Pull-offs are sets of multiple notes that you can play with only one strum. The end of Laid to Rest is probably the longest series of them in the game.

Don't want to derail this thread, but I notice Wario said the X360 Guitar Hero 2 guitar will work with Rock Band?

This is true. IGN reported that it couldn't be done, but it was rectified by one of the Rock Band devs today.

has anyone had any problems with your scores not being uploaded to the leaderboard? i was just curious how my medium level score compared to my friends, and i notice it won't upload the medium one, only the easy one from ages ago. i've done it both on campaign and free play :\

others seem to upload no problem though. or is it that some leaderboards aren't updated but a few times a day or something?

If you have long fingers you can sometimes get away with just using your pinky for both of them. Doesn't work on all songs though.

This is what I use, but you need a really trained pinky finger to hit the 5th and then the 4th quickly in succession. Even more when it's 4-5-4.

ex: Fret the higher note, in this case GREEN. The GREEN fret on screen will have a black ring around it (you probably wont notice until you look for it and get used to it) While holding down the GREEN (higher fret) have already strummed it once, the next series of notes that are RED, BLUE, YELLOW, ORANGE will have no black rings at all around them (white actually). All you have to do is fret the NON GREEN buttons with your other available fingers without having to strum every single note. The non black rings means that it can be a hammer on/off.

It's funny watching people play who strum every single goddman note :lol

that would be me :lol

and I can actually still hit the notes and be successful on a lot of them too, haha. Hurts the hell outta my right arm though

Can't wait to get back home to try this. :O

Yeah me too:lol I've got to the point where I can successfully strum every note in some of the fastest parts of the fastest songs...yet I wouldn't have to if I'd bothered to learn HOPOs.

That's the reason I'm stuck on Hard mode and never progressed to Expert. I'm too set in my ways now to learn how to re-play the whole game

I don't know, I still can't do hammer-ons that well in the first game. They just seem too hard for me–are there any good songs to practice the technique in GH1 that can get me better at it? I'm assuming I'd want to start on Hard mode to practice them.

Just swapped my copy at Best Buy, no problems with the new guitar's whammy bar. Sheer luck gave me another one with the port on the bottom, for the record.

I posted this in the other thread, but I just wanted to share that Guitar Hero II is GAF's most played game right now. :)

This is the top 10:

Got GHII yesterday, carved through and finished all of Hard mode last night (just the main songs, havent bought extra songs yet) , playing through the list reminded me of how much Crazy on You and Rock This Town suck on expert mode and I'm not looking forward to getting up to them.

Maiden? Worth the repurchase for them alone!

The new guitar controller? Whoever the ****wit is who designed this, he needs a beatdown, pronto. He just can't have played the previous version before.

The back button is impossible to get at easily to trigger star power, theres a whopping big d-pad waiting to be bumped by my palm which acts a strum, so say goodbye combo, and the strummer has been moved up in line with the fretboard which is way more fatiguing than the SG design. Also my whammy bar is an unresponsive piece of shit that only works if I bash the crap out of it. The only good thing is the shape of the guitar, but we thank Gibson for that.

Still the maddest game on the planet though, I was happy with being ranked 2000 after about 3 hours worth of playing.

I'm kind of new to the whole Guitar Hero scene, failed "Surrender" on Easy and was awarded this achievement:

dimebagsg6.jpg

Seems in poor taste...

My apologies to the Abbott family and all rock fans on NeoGAF. Please don't ban me. The enternity I'll spend in Hell is punishment enough.

I may have effectively gotten this game for $79.99. I price matched the Circuit City deal at Best Buy, but they way it showed up on the receipt has the game for $69.99 and the 1600 card for $19.99. Nothing about price matching...I guess I'll be returing my 1600 point card.

Hopefully I didn't get a bad guitar...I'm mainly buying this to have a guitar for Rock Band

Edit: whammy bar seems good to me...now I just need a USB extender. Will any of them work with the controller?

pleeeeeease?

Oh and btw–WTF I JUST SAW JORDAN ON EXPERT FOR THE FIRST TIME WTF HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE

Practice mode dude, do the ho/po tute coz it lets you ho/po all over the place. Starting on hard wont make em any easier, although ho/pos are WAAAAY easier in GHII 360 than they are GHI/II on the PS2.

Damn just opened up the box and there's something jangling around in the guitar. Grrreat.

It's probably the tilt sensor.

The same thing happened to me when I got GHII for ps2. For some reason I didn't just take the game back to the store, so I decided to open the guitar up and see what was rattling. I figured out you can take the clickers out of the strum buttons and it makes the guitar less annoying to play if your music's not drowning out the clicks. I didn't realize it was the tilt sensor till I took every damn piece of that guitar apart. :lol

Well for a beginner I've caught on pretty good, already on stage... 6 or 7 on Normal. I still don't have a position where the guitar is completely comfortable. When I hold it like a real guitar its just too short, and if I hold it where its comfortable, my strumming arm has to be angled back werid. And nevermind hitting that damned back button.

I dont know if it's the guitar but I'm playing 50% better with this version than how I played on PS2. I think it may be due to the fact that my PS2 guitar controller was a launch controller...the Xplorer feels much more responsive

So I apologize for not having read the whole thread, but if something like this has been posted...sorry.

I went to Gamestop a couple hours ago and talked to the guys there bout it and they pretty much said what RedOctance told them to say when they called them when people started complaining about the whammy problems.

The manager from Gamestop just called me (happens to be a family friend) and said that all major retailers only received the messed up model number, and that the good ones are actually released in areas outside of the US, but some areas did receive them. It turns out though, that it's a calibration issue with the software syncing with the guitar, so there should be a patch very soon to address the issue and everything should be fixed.

For a temporary fix, if you wiggle the whammy bar a bit before a song starts, it will calibrate it and you shouldn't have any problems.

Well, if you plug the guitar into a pc to use it, there is no calibration issues at all, but there are with the game, so right now I'd say that yes, it is fully a software issue, and there should be a patch soon (that's my inference).

Thats exactly what I have found, go nuts on the whammy bar and it starts working sweet.

After practicing 1 hours, I cannot got beyond 20% hit in slow mode. Looks like I'll be practicing for 3-4 days more before starting my career mode.

are there any good comparison between the PS2 guitar and the 360 guitar?

I heard the 360 guitar was smaller, which would be good, im still not sure if I should get GH2 360 now or to wait until DLC comes out.

The guitar is indeed smaller and the neck is thinner, which I don't particularly like, but it's all about personal preference.

The neck is so small on the 360 controller that I can fit my thumb around the other side just about.
