I like the overall musiclist with some gems I never listened to before (Jessica, Misirlou, Rock and Roll Hootchie Koo,)

Wow. Way to make a guy feel old.

I need help alt strumming. For some reason I just can't get it. I've been practicing on medium and seem to make a lot more mistakes than when I down strum. It seems that I always hit the fret button when I strum, instead of holding down the fret before I have to strum like I do when I down strum. Do any of you have advice for this?

I suck at it too, but there's a couple of songs where it is totally and completely necessary. I think it's Hanger 18 (on medium)... there's a part that is just impossible to downstrum and hit all the notes.

I used practice mode and just played that part five or six times. I can now usually get through it without missing any notes. Unfortunately, I still haven't 5-starred it, and even more unfortunately, the skill hasn't seemed to translate to other songs with similar parts. Maybe I'll have to practice each of them individually or something.

Unlock all songs cheats.

Thanks man, I will use that when my GH2 skills refuse to cooperate with the game.

I'm trying the game on medium now and it's hard. I managed to clear a 2 or 3 songs on the first try, but the rest I had to try and practice a couple of times. I'm at the second tier.

Aaaah my fingers are crying!!!

Code wouldn't work for me either to unlock my last few bonus songs, hmm.

Anyway, I finally cleared Surrender on Hard after like 15 tries and then beat Salvation and Shout at the Devil right in a row. Felt so awesome.

My copy arrived yesterday and I just got through the whole game on expert. I'm really digging the new guitar over the PS2 ones even though it takes a little bit to get used to. The form factor and feel of the buttons are much better and the guitar feels much more sturdy in general.

You got through the whole game on expert already? Nice.

I'm no guitarist myself, as I'm starting on easy and plan to slowly work my way up. :lol Having so much fun rocking out in the process though!

So last night...a couple of friends and I decided we were on a mission to unlock Freebird. Mind you this was over a few drinks so this was a more difficult task than it would seem.

i must say...beating that last song to get the encore and
going through all the "Are you sure?" menus
and then finally getting to play Freebird was a great moment in gaming.

Im having a tough time on med. ,but at first I was having a hard time with easy..hopefully someday I'll be rockin' it on expert like it ain't no thang.

One more song to do on Easy (Jessica) before I've got 5 stars for everything on the Easy Tour. I got my first 100% a few minutes ago with "Message In A Bottle", too. I hope I pick up Medium this fast.

Right now i'm trying to get the 5 stars on every song (medium) achievement. Jessica is kicking my ass right now so i don't believe i am going to get that achievement anytime soon. I also tried hard for the first time yesterday and that orange button scares the hell out of me.

There's nothing below Expert that I can't downstrum, and very little even on Expert. Songs where I need it would be Misirlou, The Light That Blinds, Jordan, Arterial Black, maybe a couple bonus ones that I never play.

QFT. After a while you can surprise yourself with how fast you can strum. :lol

Picked the game up yesterday and unlocked about half of Expert so far. Is it just me or is the controller feel a lot "stiffer" than the PS2 guitars? I remember that there's a break-in period for these things, but the whammy bar seems to be very unresponsive on long notes and the HOPOs aren't nearly as fluid as on the PS2 guitar...

Any ETA on when Marketplace songs will be available?

I got the 5-star normal achievement which I'm happy about. Stupid Institutionalized kept kicking my ass, but after several tries I finally got the timing down on that funky chorus it has. I'm trying out hard and its pretty crazy, it'll take me some time to get used to this.

i'm not sure if anyones mentioned or noticed this but there are over 150,000 people on the leaderboards. :lol :lol :lol

Yeah I think the game will sell very well on X360. Seeing how badly I rank on the leaderboards is fun. :)

I got everything 5-starred on Hard, but I don't think I'll be getting all 5-stars in expert. Stuff like Carry Me Home and Psychobilly Freakout will keep me from that.

So what's everyone's favorite song?

Song as is in singular? I could never narrow it down.

Possum Kingdom
Trippin on a hole in a paper heart
Heart shaped box
Salvation
Them Bones
Killing in the name of

I'm a dirty slut for 90's rock...this game needs some god damn Smashing Pumpkins, with a dash of Weezer for good measure.

I've got a model 95055.491.US guitar and the star power is nearly impossible to activate for me, I think the tilt sensor is borked.

Is this the defective model? I've only heard about problems with the whammy bar... is there a good model number to look for?

MirageDwarf said:
Yes. See this: http://www.*******.com/2007/04/07/red-octane-says-two-xbox-guitar-models-defective/ (Joystik)

Defected model numbers are 95065 and 95055.

Thanks... I've got the exact same problem as them. 95055 box with a 95065 sticker on it.

For example, here at *******, we have a 95055 box, with a 95065 sticker placed over the UPC (originally 95055) and a 95065 guitar in the box - everything works fine so far (except star power activation is far less responsive than the PS2 guitar).

Personally, I like the more classic rock/hardcore rock list of GH2 better than the songlist GH1. There are more tunes that really make you feel like you are a TRUE rocker, as opposed to just playing fun beats. While GH1 may be more "mainstream" with it's slew of a bit more "pop"pier music, GH2 is more satisfying for real rock fans, and truly captures the feel of what it should be to be a "guitar hero".

Funny enough, institutionalized was one of my favorite songs on medium. It was the only medium song that I actually had to go to practice mode to nail. SO fun. I love pretty much all of the songs on the last 2 tiers in medium, because they are more difficult. Some of the medium songs got boring because I wasn't hitting much, so I just played through them once, 5-starred em and moved on. Hard mode is GREAT though. :) It is really a challenge, but you feel more like you are rocking. Anyone know if hyperspeed is just turned on by default in hard mode? For some reason it's like the frets fly by a lot faster than medium, but I'm still able to hit them all (I heard that hyperspeed makes the frets fly by faster, but the notes are just further apart so that it is easier to read).

(sorry for double post)

Same here. Kinda like a two second delay after I activate it. Other than that, the only thing I've noticed is that my blue button is slightly lower than the other buttons.

So does everyone have the unresponsive star power then? I'm not sure if it's worth it to bother returning now.

my star power is also kind of unresponsive but i have the 95055. the whammy bar usually works, but occasionally its not very responsive either and sometimes just seems to completely miss certain movements on it. other times it'll work flawlessly throughout the song. guess i'll return it next time i go to BB.

Best songs in the game (on expert):

-Possum Kingdom
-Hush
-Rock & Roll Hoochie Koo
-Carry on my Wayward Son
-Message in a Bottle
-Sweet Child of Mine
-Jessica
-The Trooper
-Gemini
-Dead
-Freebird
-Can You Hear me Knocking

and Radium Eyes (if you're high. seriously.)

Pretty much everyone with the expansion port near the cable is having issues with the star power/whammy bar. One thing I noticed (it was mentioned here before, but didn't think much of it) was that if you hook the guitar up to your PC, the joystick calibration in Windows actually recognises that the whammy bar is fully recognisable and working! Must be a driver/setup issue in the game if it's having issues on the 360 but the PC sees it fine...

My tilt sensor's basically fine. I just bend backward to get star power. :lol
However, I have a 95055 and my whammy bar only works after being pressed toward the body of the guitar. Should it start whammy-ing instantly? I think I'll have to try to get an exchange eventually, but I don't want to part ways with Teh Rock!

DIY fix for dud whammys like mine:

http://forum.guitarherogame.com/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=17898

Sounds easy, I'll give it a try later.

Update: I tried this fix out and it WORKS. It was easy to do, and now my whammy is as sensitive as my PS2 SG controller.

Btw if I didn't already have the SG from the PS2 I could easily have assumed that this was just how the 360 whammy works without realising how sensitive it's actually meant to be, so I'm not sure how many 360 owners actually don't realise that their whammy bar is also stuffed.

I think all boxes are 95055 and 95065.

Mine has a 95605 sticker on it and thankfully my guitar works fine, whammy bar and all.

I just got back from trying the 360 version at Best Buy. I liked the feel of the guitar body and really liked the slimmer neck. I calibrated lag straight away. Then I got down to business. OMG, I really hope their guitar is broken or defective because it ****ING SUCKED. I started with Strutter on expert, a song that I can 5-star with my eyes closed, and I actually got into the red less then 20 seconds into the song. The notes just weren't registering, but I was too frustrated to really tell if it was the buttons or the strum bar that were the problem. Looking back, I'm sure it was the fret buttons, because I had no problem with the strum bar in the lag test.

That's because you played it at Best Buy. Those guitars are broken from all the people playing them. When we had GH1 at the display at my store, we had to replace it every 2 weeks because people are idiots.

Yeah, I've seen that. I have a functional whammy bar but I can't help but feel it could be a little better.

I've repaired broken whammy bars on both my SGs and had no problem fixing them, but when he mentions broken wires and re-soldering, I get a little reticent to open this one up.
But I think that only happened because he removed the pot. That's not necessary, right?

I think I'll give it a shot to see if I get any improvement.

Yeah I think he only broke a wire connection because it took him a bit of mucking around to figure out where to fix the whammy, I didn't come close to breaking any wires when I did mine.

God help me. I just bought "Dead!" off iTunes.

I'll probably be doing the same for like 4/5ths of the songs on this game. I just listen and let my fingers do the walking. Like Fight Night 3, I just have such a massive respect for shredding now. I can't stop listening to Valient Thorr and basically anything with a blazing solo. You should check out (SERIOUSLY) Aimee Mann's live version of "Long Shot" on her live album, "St. Anns". Her guitarist, I'm not even kidding, totally kills shit.

Same goes for (SHUT UP I'M ****ING SERIOUS) David Rawlings on Gillian Welch's live cover of Radiohead's "Black Star". I could listen to that solo eight million times.

Oh, and I beat Free Bird today. Best game ending since FFX.

:D

You sure they didn't change the placement? I noticed a difference in placement on Heart Shaped Box on hard between the PS2 and 360 versions.

I had the same experience with the Best Buy kiosk. The controller was not responisve at all, and I think I blame it on the monitor lag (even though I caliberated the lag, still didn't seem perfect). And I think the guitar on display was a defected one to begin with

Now that I have the game at home, I can definitely assure you that Best Buy's setup just sucks ass.

Freya is the worst song in the game. I don't know how people can say otherwise, but that whole 1 minute, repetative back & forth bullshit gets me really mad.

Finally finished hard. Carry Me Home has stopped me since the PS2 version, but I finally broke down and practiced the song to see where I could improve. Getting that opening down was crucial. Right now I'm 15 songs into expert, but I think I'll stay in hard and work on getting 5 stars on the songs there.

I got to say, just having this game on the 360 makes having no online multiplayer that much harder to bear. I wish they could of figured out a way to make it possible for this game.

The DLC better be cheap. Ideally, the price of all GH1 tracks should equal $50. So hopefully under $2 per song? Excluding the bonus tracks. The DLC pricing for DDR has me worried though

I'm hoping its a dollar per song ala itunes setup, with packages for less.
