Guitar Hero IV Debut Trailer

I will be honest the drumset design does look better than rock bands. I mean just the fact that you have a noticeable High hat and ride cymbals are a huge plus.

But it seems four times as unwieldy, which seems like a more significant concern than aesthetics. Although the cymbals and hi-hats are a nice addition, I know there are some kits that have those for Rock Band, so I wouldn't be surprised if someday HMX releases them as add-ons.

I think it's an uphill battle, at least for the hardcore userbase that moved onto Rock Band. Most folks have invested SO much money in terms of equipment and DLC, I really can't see too many people having both games, no matter what tracklist Activision can scrounge up.

Not hardcore enough then.

Now that's an interesting "coincidence", GH IV debut trailer on the day of RB's release in Europe.
And it worked, now I don't know if I should wait for the seemingly better drum set in GHIV...

Oh you'd be surprised what including so and so artist does to some of us.

It depends. Is that the most important factor? More than charts, or songs included, or DLC commitment?

How awesome is Rock Band?

That anyone can be a rock star with the game? The GH one is just the same bunch of kids on stage. The RB one has a steady stream of diverse people all getting a chance to rock out. I know you're trying to paint me as a Rock Band evangelist with more Strat Controllers than brains, but surely you must see the vivid difference in conceptual approach between those ads...

I'm joking that the "hardcore" would buy both games.

besides, if the GH:4 drum set works with Rock Band (which it presumably will unless RedOctane are smart) there's a way everybody can win.

Not really. GH's is a bunch of people playing on expert and going for gold and Rock Band is a bunch of people playing casually and swapping instruments. Seems like a straight up representation of both games baby!

Well, GH4 will probably include more than 20 songs over RB (counting extra-songs and all), which is well worth 40 euros.

There will be a robust create-a-rocker mode in GH4. If you're not talking about characters in game, I'm at a lost about what you're talking here with this "kids on stage" thing and all.

It's going to do so much better than RB, if only because the Wii version won't be much gimped like in RB and because they will probably not fuck europeans like RB does. Besides GH3 has sold much more copies than RB.
Maybe so.

I know I'll be holding off on purchasing RB for the Wii and simply wait for GH for the Wii now.

I doubt it will. Activision seems more than happy keeping things incompatable.

The trailer was all kinds of meh. Still, I hope it offers the band experience similar to RB but maintains the heavier set list (rock/metal etc.) along with challenging and interesting note charts for those of us that still prefer guitar over the (seemingly) heavy drum focus found in RB.

You know what? I'm from Europe and I own a PS3. I shit on Rock Band! I'm going to wait for this one.

This is the energy I'm feeling from you toward Rock Band, and I'm loving it.

Back to the game, I'll pass, me and my cousin are having too much fun with Rock Band and I don't see the reason to plop down more moolah for the same experience.

TheGreatDave said:
Yeah, but Microsoft don't.

You're a PS3 owner though, right? You'll probably suffer.
Yeah, I mean, we'll see. I'm not convinced that the games would've been compatable on the 360 either had they not been able to make it compatable before release.

Did you watch both commercials?

Whats the point in having a kit that has hi hats for RB, the left most pad is not always the hi hat. I understand what you mean though.

Yeah, let me see you switch in for expert drumming after playing only "casually". You'll get fucking owned.

The ones I saw had cymbal pads for several colors, in addition to the four main pads.

The GH4 one doesn't have a high hat either. It just has a crash and a ride. Anyone know if one of those will be used as a highhat? I'm curious how Neversoft will chart for the drums.

I thought, aside from price, the primary complaint was that Europeans had to wait so long for this.
Rock Band is out in Europe now, whereas Guitar Hero: Rock Band will not be out in Europe for many months.

Yep. Already have a guitar unless they manage to hose that compatibility somehow.

I just saw your replay to "how awesome is RB?" >_<

I try to avoid anything related to RB since they announced the Wii version would be a crappy port and the Euro price >_<

Should have released GHIV as a normal GH game, then created this version of the game with all the accessories and singing and drumming and called it Jukebox Hero.

I wonder how much the GH4 peripherals are going to cost. The drum set looks quite a bit more advanced than the Rock Band set, and its also wireless.

Because "Jukebox Hero" would be a strong brand name.

I would avoid that just because of my hate for the song of the same name.

weird... I wonder what for?

ah... I thought I heard they were going to use the left most cymbal as a hi hat, oh well, the GH4 set up still looks better and I believe the cymbals are pressure sensitive. Just really sucks that they wont have my money since I've invested so much into RB.

I'm torn between waiting for this and getting Rock Band this summer.

There's no way I'm getting both with the lack of intracompatibility. Fuck EA and
or
Activision.

But I think only the 360 version of RB is out now, with the PS3, PS2 and Wii versions coming along late summer I think.
