"Guitar Hero Live" Announced

I guess they chose the FMV route so that the game would look exactly the same across all hardware, even iphones and ipads. And the pop songs instead of classic rock to attract a wider audience.

Although with the three lane layout its basically just tap tap revenge except now you have the option to use a giant plastic guitar.

This game seems to do away with so many of the staples of the GH franchise: the Metal aesthetic, the exaggerated cartoon graphics, the largely Metal track last...

...all of which I hated. So I'm interested.

This doesn't look too exciting, I'm guessing the live footage will get repetitive after a while. I'm glad they were bold enough to ditch the old instruments, even though I'm not sure the new system is that interesting. Rock band seems to be sticking to the old gameplay (we don't know that but at least it looks like they didn't change the guitar peripheral at all) but I hope they're not afraid to innovate and it doesn't end up as rock band 3.5

The aesthetic stuff I don't really care about, seems kind of cheesy. I do like the idea of the new guitar though. Seems way better and more fun than my useless pinky.

I wasn't aware that TTR used six buttons.

The button layout doesn't strike me as being particularly conducive to the kind of songs Guitar Hero was known for (your Dragonforce tracks and whatnot), and the tracklist as of now seems to support that. It seems like that this is aiming to be a much more casual experience than previous games have been.

There's a tracklist out?

VR is a pretty terrible idea for music games IMO. The idea of standing in a VR music arena is nice and all, but where does one fit the actual interface of the game? The notes will literally come flying at your face.

You could have the notes coming down on a 2D plane in front of you. Either way, it would kinda ruin the whole point of VR -- to feel like you're performing in front of a crowd, if there's a giant note track ruining your view. Could work for the singer though.

Was being a bit facetious in my post. I dont think it would work very well either.

But honestly VR is the only reason i can see that they'd arbitrarily reboot the guitar hero series as an FP game. Like, why the fuck would you ever correlate "first person" with "guitar hero"? VR systems being on the up and up is the only possible, remote connection.

Nothing can render to four VR headsets. You could do single player or online multiplayer VR only. Or local with one person in VR, the rest on screen.

Sorry, I dont know enough about VR tech to follow your point. You just mean that with four people the game would be rendering 8 screens and tracking too much shit to run properly? If so, then yeah, absolutely. I mostly said the four player thing in a half joking jab at the multiplayer obsession of these games. Singleplayer could work nice though.

God damn why did they have to change the guitar layout? The black and white notes looks really tame, and now I can't use GH's superior guitars on the new Rock Band which was the plan all along.

So why the hate? The first person FMV view looks pretty cool, much better than the awful backgrounds from previous iterations. From a gameplay point of view it doesn't look much different though it might be easier to hit the buttons (without moving your hand much).

I'm actually impressed about that FMV first person view, it looks awesome!

Playing with real music videos in the backround is cool. Not sure about the new guitar layout. Unfortunately, this likely means that not only are old GH and RB guitars not compatible with the game, the new GH and RB guitars will not be compatible with each others new games. Which definitely hurts considering the genre is trying to make a come back. It's either GH or RB, you can't really pick both (unless you want to spend a lot on peripherals).

Now that I see it in action I think it looks cool now. I never cared for Rockband but I remember getting Guitar Hero 2 and playing it for days. I hope this recreates that.

Hmm, Bass could still technically work. If all you're doing is looking at the crowd, you won't even see your bandmates. Not to mention... they could just go the unrealistic route and have you play bass lines, despite looking at the Bass player on stage. And again, for multiplayer, they could just have the single screen looking at the crowd. I think everyone is putting too much emphasis on this whole first person perspective. With that said, everything you said could certainly be true, in which case, yes, that would be disappointing.

I don't think there's any "Just look at the crowd" option, but it does look like local multiplayer is in where you just have the music video in the background.

First person FMV stuff has no real effect on how I feel about the game. It's a pretty cool idea and while I probably prefer fully customizing the band and stuff like that it's not a huge deal.

The thing that has me on the fence is the change in buttons. One row of five buttons worked and it was fun to play. I'm not sold on the two rows of three buttons. Maybe it will grow on me as they show more of it but right now I'm just not sure about it.

Still not sold on this till I see higher tier songs.

Alter Bridge- Cry Of Achilles Oh yeahhhh! keep that sort of tracks up and I'll be more than happy!

Instead of Dubstep artist in a Guitar game, they should have introduced some Rythm and Blues. Call It Stormy Monday by Albert King and Stevie Ray Vaughan would be so good.

I don't really understand the reasoning for changing the guitar other than this way they can leave all the old dlc behind and make people get new stuff. Maybe they have a reason and they will justify it but from what I have saw so far it doesn't make sense.

Not exactly what I would call a lineup of storied guitar players there.

Distressingly, there seems to be three different types of currency in the top right corner, too.

Ed Sheeran... ok, what little interest i had in this game is now long... long... gone...

Looks pretty good to me. More mainstream music instead of metal/rock. Then again, RB: Green Day and Lego Rock Band were the only titles in these series with a lineup acceptable to me.

I mean, the action of it focuses on a different aspect of playing a real guitar, I think is the main thing. You're shaping chords (in a much simplified manner) rather than just being concerned with fret position (in a much simplified manner).

I was worried about this but after watching the video it looked pretty good. I always had an issue with the fourth button so this new layout should be great news for a lot of players and if anything might even up the highest difficulty setting.

The track list while I hope they do have a lot of heavier rock and some metal in there still it is cool to see The Black Keys and Jake Bugg making the list. Gives me hopes they will add Rodrigo y Gabriela, that would guarantee a sale right there.

Although I agree with the Ed Sheeran post above they aren't just catering to you that's for the masses and won't be the only track in the game... hope it is DLC though.

while artists confirmed to join the tracklist include The Black Keys, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Gary Clark, Jr., Green Day, Ed Sheeran, The War on Drugs, The Killers, Skrillex, The Rolling Stones, The Lumineers, Pierce the Veil and Blitz Kids.
Skrillex, really?
ffs

Gonna stick to Rocksmith

meh.....rocksmith is ok, but I would rather just learn the song on my real guitar than plug it and try to concentrate on a screen.

But plastic instruments give me Rock Band!

It looks interesting but that button layout is going to make it weird for hammer ons and power offs for solos.

I'm sorry but this actually looks phoned in.

that's because it basically is with it being for mobile devices as well.

Awesome. Can't wait to play this in VR.

edit: eesh, that gameplay video sure leaves a lot to be desired though. I also wasn't expecting real life footage as you play. That's really...kinda weird.

Regardless of your taste in music, it doesn't really change what I said about the fears of this being much more casual-focused than certainly the other installments of the series. It raises a lot of questions about the long-term value of learning the game, even if it sounds like they've got a much more solid plan in place for DLC than they ever did for the older games.

Nobody stuck with the first Guitar Hero just because they really liked playing Iron Man all the time on Easy.

It seems to charmless. I'm not a fan of the previous game's character designs, but at least they had somewhat of a personality, this seems so bland.
