Instruments

- Are instruments cross-game compatible? Yes. (PS3 and 360). All your current Rock Band and Guitar Hero instruments will work in the current generation of rock music games (2008 gen.).
- Are instruments cross-console compatible? No.

Guitar

You can use any guitar. There are several new features of the game supported by the "World Tour guitar" which is packaged with certain bundles of the game.

For details on the World Tour guitar and general gameplay issues concerning the guitar, please go here.

Drums

You can use any drum set. If you use the Rock Band drum set, the highway will only have four lanes with the orange pad being mapped to either green or blue depending on what makes more sense for the song (this occurs with any Rock Band set, regardless of any cymbals add-on. It looks like RB cymbals will be supported and allow five lanes with an upcoming patch.).

The World Tour drum set:

Drum set with a MIDI input. For details on the World Tour drum set and general gameplay issues concerning the drums, please go here.

Vocals

You can use any USB mic.

The World Tour mic:

Pretty much a standard USB mic. For more information on vocals gameplay, please go here.

Gameplay

Lots of gameplay information (including elements and mechanics new to World Tour) can be found here.

You forgot the Oasis DLC
ya, i didn't want to post too much stuff before it came out. But, I thought I'd get a bit of a head start. Metallica is the only thing out right now. The other stuff comes out pretty quickly.
Oasis comes out 2009 sometime.

If you wanna add it to the OP:

Australian release date: 12th November
RRP $330
Can find it at launch for around $280

Thanks to our slumping canadian dollar, Best Buy has the bundle as 199.99 while FutureShop wants to leach another 10 dollars and will sell em for 209.99

I can't wait to get my hands on the creator. I'm going to try to recreate "Breaking The Law" first, since it should be an easy song to get comfortable with the software before I try to compose anything. Looking forward to playing the songs that people here will make too.

With all the different tastes in music around here, the critical response to songs made by the members here on the forum should be interesting.

Oasis Joins Forces With Guitar Hero(R) World Tour to Bring New Album, Dig Out Your Soul, as Downloadable Content
'Bag it Up,' 'Waiting for the Rapture' and Hit Single 'The Shock of the Lightning' to arrive in November; Full Album Available in 2009

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Oct 17, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- Gamers looking to shred, drum and wail away to the new sounds of beloved, multi-platinum UK rock band, Oasis, need not wait much longer as music from the band's critically acclaimed Dig Out Your Soul album will soon be available for download in Activision Publishing, Inc.'s (Nasdaq: ATVI) Guitar Hero(R) World Tour.

Featuring "Bag it Up," "Waiting for the Rapture" and the hit first single "The Shock of the Lightning" from the band's seventh studio album, the Oasis Track Pack will be available on November 6th for the Xbox 360(R) video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PLAYSTATION(R)3 computer entertainment system. In addition, the three tracks will be released as single downloadable songs for both the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3. The Dig Out Your Soul album, in its entirety or via individual singles, will be available for download in 2009.

the album itself is out in 2009. this is what happens when I read too fast.

edit: that's a week and a half later than all the other stuff, i believe. I'll put it up, but I think I'm gonna wait until stuff is actually available before it goes up from now on.

So the 360 has the DLC for an extra two weeks. Not a big deal, I don't plan on digging into DLC anytime soon for it.

There's a midnight launch party on Saturday at the Universal City Walk. Starts at 8. Anyone else going?

3 songs from tool? FUCK! I hope RB gets these somehow or i"ll be having to purchase World Tour.. hopefully the OP means it'll work with RB1 peripherals.

I really can't wait either. I need to get some multiplayer band action going on in my house ASAP!

Character/instrument/song creators were really the final nail(s).

EVERYTHING works with EVERYTHING now, as long as the console is the same. The only odd man out is GH3.

This thread title is horrible.

This.

Just because BB's come up with some spiffy titles for Rock Band threads doesn't mean the Guitar Hero thread should do a piss poor job of trying to copy the spirit of those two threads. I expected more from this thread, really I did.
