Gundam Extreme Vs set for PS3

The new PV is up on youtube. About eleven minutes of footage. I think it borrows some footage from the trailer shown at TGS, and even uses most of the same CG cinematics to transition between each series, but there's some new ones, as well as quite a lot of new suits being shown off. It's definitely worth the watch.

@ 8:24... What in the hell is that? I don't remember the Strike Gundam ever having a pack type like that.

Edit: Bahaha, the Astray Red Frame's 180 meter katana made it into the game. Man, actual Lockon is probably going to be DLC like Hi-Nu, isn't he?

Hi-Nu isn't DLC, only an early unlock code but can still be gotten during the game if I remember right.

I missed this post, I'll check out the video in a bit...Thanks!

Is the arcade game well received? I'm thinking about ordering the Asia version.

Yep. As a whole, the Gundam Vs. series runs neck to neck with Tekken as far as popularity in the arcades go. Extreme Vs. has been no different in that light.

Arcadia Rankings for June/July
June 3rd, 2011 at 1:18 pm -
Arcadia Magazine has it’s rankings for both June and July, strangely enough; both these rankings include Marvel vs Capcom 2. Take a look:

Arcadia June issue Top 10
1. Gundam vs. Gundam Xtreme Versus
2. Tekken 6 Bloodline Rebellion
3. Blazblue Continuum Shift II
4. Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition
5. Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown
6. Arcana Heart 3
7. Melty Blood Actress Again Current Code
8. Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
9. King of Fighters XIII
10. Marvel vs. Capcom 2

Arcadia July issue Top 10
1. Gundam vs. Gundam Xtreme Versus
2. Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown
3. Blazblue Continuum Shift II
4. Tekken 6 Bloodline Rebellion
5. Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition
6. King Of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match
7. Arcana Heart 3
8. Melty Blood Actress Again Current Code
9. Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
10. King of Fighters XIII

Top tier since it came out earlier this year. =) But like TreIII said, the VS series is usually one of the frontrunners in popularity, and not just because it's Gundam but from the fact that it has always been a solid series with excellent gameplay with each iteration.

GvG as a whole has been like the most popular arcade game out there for a long time. It's ridiculous actually. There are very few months where it doesn't top the charts.

On the subject of the Asia version, is there really any disadvantage in importing the Asia version as opposed to the JPN version?

Nope. The only difference is probably the lack of a CERO rating on the cover.

Holy Hell. Ordering the Asia version.

So... the Extreme VS strategy guide has come up on jp Amazon and mentions "all 60 playable units." This also includes Hi-Nu, Dynames, Blue Frame 2nd L, and Raphael included with the already existing units in the arcade, so... anything else would more than likely be DLC unless they have some surprise for us in the upcoming weeks.

Wait Cherudim Gundam is in this game already right? What would be the point of adding Dynames, they're basically the same.

One has bits and the other one doesn't? :3

You could kinda make the same argument for Nu and Hi-Nu as well. :p

I mentioned on gamefaqs but it could also mean that it's all the units that are known as of the print time of the book.

That's definitely true as well. I still think AGE-01 will be shoehorned in somehow considering it's easier to do DLC on the PS3 versus the PSP when Unicorn was announced for Next Plus.

Well, we already know they're giving us DLC missions to play through sooner or later. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they basically did similar to how things worked in the arcade, where new missions would be the first means to showcase new units that would then be added to the game later as DLC.

Would love it if the character DLC was free like the mission DLC, but I wouldn't expect that much from Bamco.

I always wanted to play Gundam Vs. when I was living in Japan but could never find a free cab to try it out. I'm going to go ahead and order Extreme Vs. and will play online. Cannot fucking wait.

I assume the majority of the game's content is its online?

Also, I have an arcade stick. Is it worth playing on an arcade stick, or would a controller do?

Either or should be alright. It all depends on what you think will be most comfortable for you.

To me, the main victory is not having to make do on the cramped PSP's controller scheme.

So I'm guessing each unit has a different point "worth" depending on how powerful they are. The Gouf had shit for health and died quite a few times, but the team didn't get particularly penalized for it.

(someone can correct me if I'm off base. I'm totally new to this series)

You're right.

Unicorn was in Next Arcade first. Next Plus added the pilot and voice. But yeah, I bet AGE-01 will probably be in as the last unlock or so, I bet.

Most of the attractiveness will be in the online as it's a 2v2 game. However, it will have a single-player mode consisting of a lot of Trials and the like similar to Next Plus or the Seed VS games.

Controller or stick will work though it may depend on the unit you want to play. Give both a shot and see what you prefer.

I'll most definitely be playing online, but I am also curious if I need to play the single player trials to unlock units. How does unlocking work?

I totally didn't realize The Catalyst was the theme song for this. I never dreamed the same song would be in both Medal of Honor and Gundam Extreme Vs. :P

I assume it'll mostly be playing through the arcade mode to unlock units like Next Plus did it. Though because it doesn't use a specific course system, they may want you to beat the last boss a certain number of times or get a certain number of stars to do so.

Alternatively, they could have most of the revealed units unlocked at first! That's unlikely though.

It's like having an official AMV every time the game starts up! xD

Anyway, probably gonna get another copy to get my work mates down for some 2v2s. So hype!

Hahahaha, I'm so glad I'm not the only person to think that.

I feel as if you, Donkey, and I are kindred spirits in Gundam. As such, we should totally hop online as a team and kick some ass.

Also, you Shouta. Having met you in real life, it's probably only fair we kick some ass together online.

Hah, sure. I may be back on Western time for a bit at the end of December as well so we would be able to play at kind of the correct times!

Good to hear! Living back in the states, it's hard to get games going with friends that still live in Japan.

Same here, broham. We should definitely link up when we get the game. I'm in the UK now, so it might be a bit harder to sync, but if you're online and ready to go... my body is ready.

This is the one thing I don't like about fighting games, always has some type of clone characters.

It doesn't look like Hi-Nu and Nu will be "clones" considering it'll have different properties. Hi-Nu seems to have some more tricks if I had to guess because it looks like it has a Psycoframe mode.

Besides, arguing about clones is stupid in Gundam. Of course weapons are going to be similar because it's not like gundams have many things aside from Beam Rifles, Machineguns, Bazookas, beam sabers, and funnels.

So how does Unicorn work in Extreme Vs? Do you play mostly in Unicorn mode, and turn use some gauge to transform to Destroy Mode? Is it handled the same way 00 Trans-Am is?

You are normally in Unicorn mode but you have to hit your activation button to go into Destroy mode when your meter is filled. 00 Raiser and V2 are the same. You start in V2 and 00 Gundam mode and have to switch into 00 Raiser and Assault Buster modes for a limited time. Unlike 00 Raiser though, if you activate an Extreme Burst, you won't go into Destroy mode with Unicorn.

And this is perhaps the main reason why I lament Shining Gundam getting taken out. Where is my SHINING FINGER SWORD NOW?! T_T

It's also the same with Strike's IWSP as well from what it seems. BTW, what does Full Cloth's I-Fields do in game?
