Lightning looks worse :(

Damn us americans and our fear of anime.

It can't be that hard to have, like, an unlockable sprite set with ponytail/midriff for those that want it. It's not an either/or thing. We can have both!

But they don't wanna.

And that's bullhoagies.

It's kinda of amusing to see the contrast in general, aggregate reaction to these changes versus the changes in Bravely Default. Not nearly as many cries of censorship this time, it seems.

Also, I feel kind of bad for the junior that got banned for saying, admittedly too bluntly, what everyone on both sides of the opinion was thinking about the original design. It's entirely possible he wasn't being pejorative and was just using "gay" as a descriptor. The original design does read as slightly effeminate and homoerotic in a Western context. For some, that's a plus. For others, a minus. But it definitely read a certain way.
Um, no, I sure as fuck wasn't thinking that on my "side." Just like it's entirely possible, and very probable, he knew exactly what he was saying.

But, I would love to hear how gay can be used as a descriptor. Can you explain what makes a design gay or not?

Well, there is a gay subculture. I don't think they wear braided ponytails though.
Of course there is, but that doesn't answer the question of what makes a design gay, which must be somehow definable if it's used as a descriptor.

Because I'm pretty sure when people say that's so gay they're not saying that something looks like it has design aesthetics of the gay subculture.

Well, there's gay fashion, and if something was designed based on that, I think it would be fair to call it gay. Similarly, there's a sizable economy for businesses that serve the gay community specifically. I think it's generally fair to call those "gay" too. The descriptor isn't innately bad.

But, yes, when people say "that's so gay" it's almost always derogatory. That usage would generally be the case here.
