Gurumin Steam Version on March 30th [free Greenlight codes available now]

30 FPS? That's weird.
I'm fairly certain that the original PC release ran at 60 FPS just fine. It's been years, but pretty sure. I might install it and see.

Just messed around a bit and it's not locked to 30 for me, at least roaming around town.

It is indeed only 1080p max.

Can't get this game to work well with my DS4 for some reason either.

You sure? Fraps tells me that it's running at 60, but it's clearly only 30 for me.

I can upload a video which I recorded at 60 fps, hold on.

This game is so goddamn adorable it makes me wanna vomit.

Put this in your ears and you'll know half the reason to own it.

Nice.

However it looks like people are suffering through a lot of technical problems.
Is Mastiff as reliable as XSEED, will all stuff this be ironed out? I don't mind configuring my games to work properly on my machine, but I very much dislike it if I feel like I'm fighting against lack of effort from the developers.

It's starting to look like maybe they ported the PSP version back to PC instead of modifying the original PC release.

Uh... well...

I'll try to verify when I get home and compare the two. I'm just going by what people are saying right now, and my own memories of the Japanese PC release.

Is this more like an action game (Ys Oath, Origin) or are there a bunch of items, equipment, loot and stats (which I generally can't stand [Xanadu Next])?

Though I won't settle for 30fps =(

Believe me, I've seen a mouse cursor at 30 FPS before and it's obnoxious. Had to quit a recent game, the Escapists, because of it, and that game was locked at 45 FPS (for some weird reason).

The cut scenes appear to be 30 FPS but the gameplay itself isn't.

I don't think that's the case, actually. I remember the PSP version had a different HUD with no visible rhythm marker, which is in this PC version. It might just be some weird side effect of tinkering with the aspect ratio.

You're right, it did have a different HUD.

Licensing and maybe re-encoding the game to run on non JP PCs maybe?
They already need the license to publish it anyway, and I don't think re-encoding has been an issue for these localizations in legal terms (something the localizers do for their version of the game that's accepted within the original deal).

Seems like it might be a bug, because in the manual's description for the "Vsync Off" option it says that it should run in 60FPS "if possible" when Vsync is on.

manual.pdf said:
(6) “Vsync Off”. Putting a checkmark into this box will allow the video card to render frames as fast as it can. This can result in an artifact called “Screen Tearing”. Part of the screen will have part of one rendered frame, and another part of the screen will have part of another rendered frame. This results in a visible “Tear” on the screen. Some people don’t mind this look, and this will allow the computer to run as fast as possible, making the game average a higher frame rate. If you don’t like tearing, remove the check from the box, and the game will render at 60FPS if possible. If it needs to drop a frame, the whole frame will be dropped, resulting in a stutter. People have different sensitivities to this, so experiment to find the setting that works for you.

Has anyone tried forcing v-sync externally? I'm not sure it would interface with Mastiff's app the way they've intended, assuming they meant to guarantee 60 FPS with internal v-sync.

Got my code. Can't say no to a free Falcom game!

Lol, I pass then.

I've tried it with external VSync, internal VSync and no VSync and the result is the same each time: 30 fps :(

Home now, downloading the Steam version and installing the original PC version to do comparisons.

Lol, I pass then.

Don't pass based on that post, because it doesn't seem like I'm even correct.

Yeah, there's no way this is the PSP version ported back to PC. Sorry for even suggesting it. Still waiting on the JP PC version to install.

Wow, how did I miss this news?! Funny, I'm currently playing this on Vita and was just thinking how nice this game would look running at a higher resolution. Can't wait to start downloading it from Steam.

Truly, an underrated gem.

I'm pretty sure this is actually a port of the PSP version.

There's no way that's true, after actually running it for myself. It's got all of the features the original PC version had.

I feel bad because now the PSP port thing is spreading all over the internet.

Just because they made some UI adjustments doesn't mean it's the PSP version. Unless there are a few other differences. What would the differences be from the PC OG version to the PSP version.

Because since it was announced I was always under the impression this was a port of the PC version.

Also anyone using a Xbox One controller and the game getting super wacky with it or is it just me?

The original PC version is running at 30 FPS for me too. I could've sworn it was 60. I hope it's not a Windows 7 issue or something. Could very well be just bad memory on my part, and making assumptions since Falcom's other games tend to run at 60 on PC.

The configuration tool is the same. The input options (mouse/keyboard) are the same, and the menus in-game that accommodate the mouse/keyboard controls are the same, as well.

I love the visual style and the gameplay looks really fun, but the trailers made the story seem offputting. Is this worth 9 bucks?

It's worth 9 bucks if you love falcom and like seeing them bring things to steam.

It's worth 6 if you want to zone out and play something kinduh Kirby dumb. (BTDubs, I love Kirby games).

and a steam sale purchase because why not.

this game is pretty cute, enjoying it so far but shame that it feels kind of choppy despite the counter saying the game is running at 60fps. Wish I could run it at a higher than 1080p res too, hope someone finds a fix.

Here are some cute screenshots

I voted and joined the group but the Big Woof says I'm not eligible for a code. Maybe it's because my profile is private?

I'd love to play this game again. I'd also be OK with paying for it, but ATM money is tight so I'll have to wait for a sale. But hey, if you can buy this game you totally should because it is a good time.

Man, where's Durante when you need him? This game could use some alternate renderer fixing, not to mention proper Xinput support.

Oh, I suppose i should mention that I have an interview set up with Mastiff about Gurumin that is happening next Wednesday evening I guess if you have questions or issues with the game ask them in this space and I will relay to the devs.

That's awesome, I'll post a couple of questions later today.

EDIT: My only question is if there was any effort to unlock the framerate, I suppose.

Plans to support custom resolutions? Proper XInput support (my right stick is not working!)? Support DX9 or maybe even DX11? Also ask about the possibility of including Japanese voices too, since many of us appreciate having dual audio options.

Is there a way to override the renderer to make it render at different resolutions? GeDoSaTo doesn't seem to work.
