This is about as real as those "My kid smarted off to me so I'm selling his game collection" eBay auctions, but were this real, an hour in small claims court would get him the value of the games back and then some.
I really don't find it all that hard to believe that that decided to break the things in rage and then just left. Not everything need others to have some kind elaborate plan for not to get caught. Most likely she thinks that she will get away with. You are really underestimating the number of stupid people out there.
But since it is reddit, who knows. He might have just broken a bunch of games he no longer needs and can't sell for attention.
What makes women think they can just do this shit? This poor sap probably isn't going to sue her, he's probably not going to get any compensation whatsoever, she'll pretty much get away with this. If I did this to an ex to say.... shoes, she'd physically attack me. I say call her bluff, sue.

Why wouldn't she take the controllers if she would bother detaching the hard drive? Heck, she had a hammer, so why wouldn't she harm the console itself instead of making the effort of opening individual game boxes, destroying the game discs and ripping the documentation?
That's how much she hates the guy, she's willing to go through that tedious process just to spite him

The games in that bin, crushed into teeny tiny bits, provided entertainment that was worth purchasing to whomever took those photos. The girlfriend in question seemed to notice how much the games meant to whoever this person was and found it an easy way to destroy what was valuable. Feelings that the guy probably didn't feel for the (presumably) crazy girlfriend.
If true, its yet another reason for me to despise Reddit.

It matters even less if this is a hoax. The reddit community this was posted in notorious for hoaxes like this.
This reddit scenario is typical:
"I passed by a trash can and found this!"

10,000 people up vote his submission
- turns out its just a box of games from his garage. -
The reddit user that posted this already submitted it to other subreddits to get more attention.
He's made statements like "nothing will ever replace these games I lost!"
I can only roll my eyes at this nonsense.
Radiant Silvergun is like videogame torture that you force yourself to like because it cost a lot of money. I'd probably try to find a way to get her back if she smashed it, ending the pain.

Exactly. I don't believe this. If she's going to steal away the hard drive, why wouldn't she have just stolen the games as well? Or why didn't she smash the hard drive like she did with the games? What about the controllers?

It's a lot of time and effort to expend on going to court just to get the replacement value of these games that one would be hard pressed to even give away.

If we were talking about an actual collection of vintage games or thousands of dollars worth of games, it may be different.

Look at all the damaged games. They're all over 2 years old. Look at the manuals, there's stuff like sky rim and red dead but they don't appear in the pile of games. Why are all the best games just the manuals that are destroyed? I call bullshit.
It seems you don't value money or showing the person who did it that there are consequences to thing.
That is 300 dollars that can go into other things that now went down the toilet. You might as well burn the money now.
I have bought at least 20 game full price, that is 1200 dollars gone.
