Wake me when he's textured and lit the whole thing, and filled all rooms with their corresponding contents.
This.

Its impressive, sort of, but not really. All the time that must have went into it is impressive but it still needs more work.

I was expecting either of the two in the top left. This is cool, though.

I'm not a fan of ST, but one of the things I really appreciated was the consistency in the ship design.

Fake. Missing the HMS Enterprise

It was mainly built as a battle cruiser kind of ship as opposed to an exploratory ship. In the canon I can't remember exactly but it's supposed to follow off the same design philosophy that created the Defiant I think.
Anti Borg design?

It's a good model, but that's all it is. If it ever gets textured, then it could truly be something.

Otherwise, a plain model doesn't really do much these days.

Man, they couldn't wait for Roddenberry to die so they could militarize Trek even more. I know that's what Myer did with ST2, but Roddenberry still had total control over TNG.

I mean, the design change from the D to E really demonstrates how quickly they were able to change the focus of that crew's mission.

No V'ger in that pic. But even if it was there they make it like 60 miles long or something? I prefer my version.... it's the size of Jupiter...

I have a question about the classic Enterprise (NCC-1701) and TMP Enterprise (NCC-1701A). Is the A supposed to be an entirely new ship, or is it the same classic Enterprise that's been given a major overhaul including new engines and deflector dish?

The studio made a new ship model for the first three movies, when it was called NCC-1701, and then used the same model for the last section of VI, but changed the decals to read NCC-1701-A.

From what I can tell from the movies, the Enterprise from films I-III was a refit of the original ship, and was destroyed near the end of Star Trek III. At the end of IV a new ship was recommissioned as Enterprise, but its origins are never mentioned, since it was not a brand new ship, but rather a renamed existing starship. It is then in a state of updating and repairing in Star Trek V as NCC-1701, and is later finally--I suppose "fully"--commissioned as the next version of the Enterprise, NCC-1701-A, in VI.

I like how the NX-01 looks more sleek and modern than the NCC-1701 despite being an older ship, storyline wise.

I remember reading this article originally when it came out and always liked the sketches in it. I still do like the initial, forward swept nacelle struts even though, as is said in the piece, from the top it somewhat does give the sense of a turkey :lol

The concept for the E's saucer separation near the end is cool. Still, I find the design rather generic, the side profile boring since you can't really sense the saucer and engineering hull's divison in the profile, and the front view looks ridiculous because of the dinky deflector dish. I also hated the flattening of the saucer section's underside, made me feel like I could flip it over and fry an egg in it.

I want to have your babies Lol.

The D was elegant and powerful at the same time. That thing could be shot from any angle and still look great.

Hi guys,

Saw the commentary on my build at 3dbuzz. Thanks for all the comments. I won't answer the flip remarks about my personal life; but, that said, the model is still progressing.
Texturing will probably be the last thing to get done as on a build this size, I'd prefer to ensure the geometry isn't going to change before wasting time doing artwork. Seems straightforward enough to me. ;)

Thanks for the interest. I always welcome questions, comments and critiques - good or bad. Here's a few pics of the progress on the engineering section to warm the thread up:

The turbines at this point have some mods remaining to be done; but, this is their current state.

..and this is the current progress on the main consoles. Between being sick, working long hours at home and at work and dating.. progress is slow of late.

And, this is me:

The stormtrooper getup is standing on a dummy in my front room; so, yeah, I like Star Wars, Star Trek and sci-fi in general. Considering a firefly class ship for the next project and maybe a statue of Jayne Cobb ;)

Enjoy!

Yep, I was fully expecting the aircraft carrier. :-(

Gatsu and Sax, thank you. Low-G, I'm effectively building and furnishing the Empire state building alone and half blind.. it takes a while lol.

Looks great, especially that red (furnace?) fenced off part.

Are you making some stuff up? How do you know every detail of every room?

Dark Octave
Yeah, there is some stuff that is left to artistic license. Much of the interior space is not documented at all; so, I'm working up reference material to derive some systems from units existing today. Technology may advance; but, there's a core to it that remains pretty consistent where environmental systems are concerned. Mostly working directly from the Franz Joseph plans; though, Doug Drexler was kind enough to confirm some things about the warp core for me.

That said, I'm working very hard to get all the known detail from the show accurately into the Franz Joseph plans.. to the extent possible. That means that in most cases, I'm spending multiple hours on research for every hour of modelling. Slows things down a bit..

G-Fex, I'm with you on the whale probe.. That's what you get when a number one property in hollywood is met with the left's desire to preach through films. It always ruins the film and nobody wants to buy it. IMHO, they'd have done better to scrap the save the whales crap and do "The search for her". Much more interesting movie ;)

what's the point of a chart like this if it's not going to be "drawn to scale"? just to see the differences in shape?

Why, you shoppin your package digitally cause you can't get it scratched IRL?
These kinds of comments are the ones I usually get from folks with an excess of
personality and an overinflated sense of their own self worth - overinflated, that is,
until someone comes along willing to work a build that they aren't man enough to handle.

Any more snide comments; or, are you done?

I hope you UV'ed each room + details before duplicating them!

Haven't gotten to the point where that'll be an issue just yet. The engineering section work that I'm doing right now is largely to show people an "end result". There were a ton of people asking to see a finished room or two; so, this gives the feel without being precisely that. I'm not planning as yet to do all the decks completely out. Just a few primary sections people are used to seeing from the show. Extra work; but, I'm enjoying the break from the tedium of working the structural aspects of the ship.

Great work havoc92. thanks for taking the time to post on this project. Just ignore the immature comments from some posters there's a lot of kids here.

Only the shuttle is not to scale. it would be too small to be recognisable I think...
