So how much do you guys pay for your haircuts? I usually never go to any because I don't want to party so much for a hairdo that won't really be that since my hair is so short.I somehow doubt you can do that much with my hair.
In my neighborhood (Washington Heights, NY), I pay $18 for a haircut plus tip (if I feel he did a good job) so about $20 which is a bit too pricey. The average price for a barbershop haircut is $15 but it's increased in my neighborhood. Shape-ups are $7; $10 if you want the barber to shave the mustache (which I think is absurd) plus optional tip.
I haven't taken a buzzed cut (number 1) in about a year myself; I only do it when I'm really tired seeing my hair so long, and run out of haircut ideas. I typically get it buzzed when the weather gets hot. The last haircut I took was a two on the sides and I think a three on top (which has been the haircut that I usually take) plus a shape-up.
I was kind of annoyed by my last visit to the barbershop (which was about two months ago) because I wanted a faux-hawk, but since it's a Dominican barbershop, a lot of the barbers don't know what a faux-hawk is (I showed him a picture of RJ Navarette's avatar). It was only after he finished that he said "Ohh, you mean a mohawk! It'll grow back." *face palm*
I think my hair is long enough to get a Ryan Gosling style cut at this point so I'll think about checking that haircut out (my hair is curly, but not super curly like my brothers' hair). However, I think I'm gonna take a shape-up this week. It doesn't help that I haven't shampooed in over 3 weeks; I've just used conditioner, gel and shape-up my forehead from time to time, as well as shave my facial hair. My hair is oily as a result, but I like it like that.
The pictures of me from the last NYC GAF meet up is what my hair currently looks like. I typically comb it backwards, slap some gel on, and call it my default hair style. If I comb it forwards, it'll just make me look a hobo (my hair looks flat).
