Half-Life 2 - Exile Vilify (a video recap of HL2+E1/2)

Really nice. Reminds me how great this series is (not that I really needed a reminder) and how much Valve has learned from HL2 through Portal 2.

The HL2 graphics have not aged well, I did not like the design of most of the characters.

But still one of the best (if not the best) games I have played.

I can't enjoy it because some of the clips feature custom textures. Why do people do that.

Also, I didn't like the editing.

Meh.

Damn I need Episode 3. Who cares about the graphics and designs,
they're fucking awesome
, these games have got more emotion than any in the last generation.

At what point do I stop watching if I only want to spoil HL2?

At what point do I stop watching if I only want to spoil EP1?

Meh.

Same, I'd have edited it way differently.

On the contrary, I don't this game will ever age. I think it's the first polygon-based game that will always look damn good.

It's like faux photorealism.

Stop at 2:35 if you just want to spoil HL2. After 2:35, the video creator mixed the episode 1/2 bits together so you can't really avoid spoiling Episode 2.

Wait there are still people who played HL2 and care about spoilers from Ep. 1/2 but still haven't gotten around to playing them? How does that even work.

How have people managed not to spoil either one for the past 4(+) years?

Its still "this" generation, EP1/2/Portal 2/L4D1/2 are all based on the same engine, all of which were released during the 360's lifecycle.

But the people have aged well graphically, I can't say the same thing for the environments. Art style is still amazing and the texture work is varied, but it is out dated. We can safely presume EP3 will either have a new engine or at the very least, have so much work done on it that it will look great regardless.

Its just..... been so long...

I got TOB when it first came out because I really wanted to play Portal. Sadly, I thought Portal was a massive disappointment so I decided to try HL2. I was also disappointed by that game so I gave up on the series. But I've recently been thinking about going back to try either EP1 or EP2 to see if Valve is capable of making any games that I might actually find enjoyable (I also didn't like TF2 or L4D).

If you didn't enjoy Half-Life 2, it's unlikely the Episodes are going to change your mind on the series. They improve upon the formula as opposed to reinventing it.

If the games aren't for you, then they aren't for you. Like myself and Zelda; Aside from ALttP, I can't get into the series at all, but know they're well-crafted games in their own right.

Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and tell you right now that you are pretty much guaranteed to continue to be disappointed then.

That was a pretty good cut of HL with a great Portal 2 song. Although weak in a few areas, really good overall.

I feel like Exile Vilify belongs in Battlestar Galactica (new).

Does EP1 or EP2 start out better than HL2?

I've started HL2 at least 2-3 times and played about three hours in each time. I always find it really boring but I've heard that things pick up later on. So if EP1/EP2 were able to grab me at the beginning, there's a good chance that I might enjoy them.

I typically really like FPS games with strong stories and it bothers me that I can't seem to enjoy the HL universe. :(

If you didn't like Half Life 2 nothing in either of the episodes will change your mind.

Having seen this, Episode 3 deserves the full sequel treatment. There's no way a 4 hour romp could really do justice to everything that happened.

What? You consider the placement of the song a spoiler?

Yes, they are shorter and start faster but Episode 2 is the best one in my opinion and starts very fast. However, you will miss a tremendous deal of the story and you better can progress in Half Life 2.

Fuck Valve seriously. Give me fucking episode 3 already. I don't give a fuck if its crap, just give it to me.

Nice music, nice selection of scenes, still hate half-life XD

What's your point? I just got the game yesterday. I'm looking forward to playing it. I don't know what's in the game. I don't know if characters come back or anything. I'm looking forward to finding out FOR MYSELF! Please mark it!

I never heard it, damn waste of a song.

On another note the video had some nice shots but I don't think th song fit that well with Half-life. Eh, I guess I've just seen better music videos but it just didn't click.

Nooooooooooo, they can spend the next ten years on it for all I care. As long as it's going to be good I can wait.

HL2's beginning is phenomenal. If you are looking for a "hit the ground running"-start full of explosions and slaughter then you have to look elsewhere for that, HL2's pacing is more akin to classical stories and not the stretched out music video most modern shooters try to be.

There's a comic.

http://www.thinkwithportals.com/comic/

Read it. In fact read it before you play Portal 2 because it bridges the gaps between the games. The character there is Doug Rattmann. He's the guy responsible for the drawings on the walls you see in the little alcoves mourning the companion cube's passing and about the cake being a lie.

All the above and my previous post doesn't spoiler Portal 2. It has absolutely nothing to do with the story of the game, only of the above comic.

Maybe it's just that I didn't play HL1, but nothing about the beginning of HL2 makes me care about Gordon or the other characters. And without that emotional attachment, the lackluster gameplay (this judgement is based solely on the first three hours) isn't enough to hold my attention.

HL1 won't change your character perspective. Like everyone is saying, just don't bother. The series clearly isn't for you and you shouldn't feel forced to find some way to enjoy it. Save yourself the effort and play a game/series you do enjoy.

Yeah, it still looks great.
The animation looks a little more stiff than I remember though.

You don't enjoy any of the Valve games and you keep trying? Wow. Even though you have bad taste (disappointed by Portal? the hell?), I can understand you. I have a hard time replaying HL2, because I can't get though the boat level. I hate it. I hate it so, so much, I want to delete it. Or burn it down with lemons. And then delete the ashes.

I don't think the song fits well with Portal either but I still like it.
