Half-life 2 using Wiimote???

NEW GAF GAME:

x SHOULD BE ON THE WII DESPITE THE FACT THAT ITS NOT A REAL GOOD IDEA.

It'll fit right alongside such classics as "Upgrade/Downgrade" and "Hot girl isn't hot!".
 
Bah, is there no way to make the accelerometer an actual accelerometer? As it can translate the speed of your movements and not just the directions?

I thought the exact same thing coming from the fl0w thread, but was pleasantly surprised that it's not what this thread was about.
 
Just for the record:

I want HL2 and Counterstrike Source on Wii!
Gravity Gun was made for Wiimote, and Wii should have enough power, considering HL2 was even released on XBox, and Wii is serveral times stronger.
 
This actually gave me an idea for a better control scheme for FPS's, pointer functionality for aiming and accelerometers for turning. That way you can aim while turning.

true its a start and a good hack for a consoel that has been out for two weeks. but it shows onhanded FPS is possible as will as dual Wiimotes.
 
Look really akward without being able to use the pointer.

I might consider trying this if they can get the pointer and the nunchuk to work.

Im with you on the Angelina Jolie thing. Scarlett though... I see what you mean, but she's still quite beautiful.
 
We wouldn't need the pointer if they can find a way to add analog functionality to the gyros. Right now, it's just 0 or 1. You're either moving it left/right/up/down or you're not. I know you can hook up an analog stick and use its various states with PC games, so there's gotta be a way to do it with the Wiimote.

Until they're able to do that, it'll just be goofy. Although I like the idea of playing with one hand. It'll be cumbersome for crouching/sprinting/flashlight, but for all out action it'd be cool.

More like a lamp. She's generally a very lamp looking kinda girl. And is annoying.

I don't wanna derail this thread any further, but I don't see the resemblance of John Voigt in Angelina at all. Who is her mother?

That's an option... You could also control movement with the d-pad, control the camera using the joystick, and aim using the pointer functionality. The learning curve would probably be incredibly steep, but if you got used to it it might actually work pretty well.

what? Why is it just a 1 and 0? They are getting data in analog from the wiimote. Do you mean no one has had the time to develop software that reads it properly? This surprises me as it shouldn't be too hard to do something basic with the info.

edit: in fact it looks like jumping is mapped to a spike in Y direction motion. Probably just looking for acceleration from a certain value, but its still getting more info than on or off. All the info is there someone just needs to sit down and code something that uses it

I just can't imagine how many fps I will play on my PC with the Wiimote.... greatness....
 
After playing Red Steel (which I enjoyed) I can safely say the aiming scheme the Linux guys are using is better than Red Steel's.

Nice job Ubisoft.

Not really. The linux guys scheme has a noticable lag between his movements and the on screen response. Also, using the Wiimote for everything just wouldnt be practical in an intense firefight, when precise movement, quick gun changes, the ability to crouch fast, etc are needed.
 
Half life 2 on Xbox sucked. No im not trolling, but we know it wouldn't run well

It's a great game, but it had MAJOR performance issues and a shitton of loading.

I would say not.
The Macbook has a GMA950 integrated graphics chip.
Which, well, SUCKS.
For instance, on a 2GHz Macbook, expect 9fps in Doom 3 on medium settings in 1024x768

so then there's some what hope of having source run at lowest settings?

would the game be worth getting it if i was gonna play it on a macbook?

Try the demo but I think you can run at low if your graphic card is that crappy I mean HL2 can even run on Directx 7.1 cards.

It is sometimes when developers other than valve made a game with it. Like Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines or more recently Dark Messiah of Might & Magic. Dark Messiah was the first game since I got my computer earlier this year to actually make windows start having to use the swap file (I have 2 gigs of ram).

Well that's just bad coding, which is no wonder since it came from Troika I mean it's a awsome RPG one of my fav but it's a bugged mess.

In bloodlines case, yeah. There were barely any options to adjust graphic detail unlike the standard graphic options in other source games. In dark messiah, I think it's because they use a ton of high resolution textures (would explain why the game is so physically big).
