maybe if we all preorder it, valve will get the message and get the many thousands of their employees currently only making hats for their various games to actually get a move on with making half-life 3

Who cares.

Maybe Valve can go buy some company or game idea, make it in to hl3, and then have the people responsible let go after 6 months.

2015 is a distinct possibility assuming Valve has settled on an iteration (i.e. there's not going to be a repeat of Portal 2: F-STOP Edition -> Portal 2: Portal Edition).

Settling on a version is one thing, but imo bringing Dota to source 2 is their priority for this year. They can't mess that up. And until it works properly they might not announce a proper Source 2 game. But this is just a guess.

I wouldn't think there's much overlap there outside of perhaps some programmers, but obviously it's impossible to be certain to any degree.

Reminds me of my friend who pre-ordered Duke Nukem Forever in 1998. To bad he lost the receipt or he could have had GameStop actually honor it. I think it was an Electronics Boutique receipt.

It's not necessarily about overlap (but as you say, who knows at this point what's the situation), but, if they manage to mess Dota up, as in lots bugs, performance issues happen, then until that gets fixed 100%, it may not be wise to announce a new game on said engine. They first need to demonstrate it works well in an existing game and it's a good opportunity for them to sample things.

Meh, will wait for the undoubtedly much improved Half Life 4. Hate it when companies milk their franchises like this.
