Half Life 3 went up for preorder on a Danish website with a 2016 release date.

They need to give a 3rd person camera mode if a new HL is gonna be made.

I couldn't get into the other 2 because of the 1st-person view.
 
Every couple of months there's a new rumor or false leak for Half-Life 3. They never pan out. It will eventually get to the point that Half-Life 3 will be officially announced and I still won't believe it. Then again, after several years, maybe this one will finally be true. It has to happen someday--right?
 
I am convinced that if Half Life 3 does ever come out, they will drop it like Bethesda did with Fallout 4. No need to advertise it for years since the name alone will carry it.

Half Life 3 is all Valve means to me personally. I'm not interested in anything else they do and I hope for the love of god we'll get it in our life time. It's mad that an IP this valuable has become vapourware.

Valve has other IPs bringing in more money they could ever make with a "classical" Half Life 3 single player campaign. Developing Half Life 3 just like we were still in 2007 would represent a huge opportunity cost to Valve.

Forgive me for being pedantic but is vapourware not an announced title that disappears. HL3 has never been announced, nor do I believe it ever will be for a few simple reasons.

1) Valve are a very successful business, their current business model is generating a fuckton (technical term) of money, creating a game on a scale that Half Life 3 would need to be would be a huge financial outlay and one a currently successful business would be unlikely to pursue unless the decision makers were sorely suffering from a bout of hubris.

2) I believe the window for releasing this should they have decided on releasing it has passed. They released HL2 with Source, however Source 2 launched Summer of Last year without a whiff of anything HL3 related and the only game to take advantage being DOTA2 ported over.

3) Sorry anything to do with Valve cant have 3 points.

Left 4 Dead 3 is happening, I'm sure of it. I think a new Portal game is more likely than a Half Life 3, but there's not really anything to suggest that either is happening just yet.

Yes and that too. I was mainly pointing that the art was finished for the project hence why he left. I know the writer was more recent, probably finished the DLC stories right?
 
Why doesn't Valve just say HL3 is never coming? Why? You all seem so sure it's never gonna happen. Well if it isn't, then why doesn't Valve stop being douchecocks and just come out and say it? Instead they take the 'no comment' route. What bullshit is that?

Yeah but that wasn't HL3 and it has clearly been shelved as well given that it was announced 10 years ago. Please people Im asking for your own sakes, just let it die. If Gabe does surprise everyone with a lovely announcement at any point in the next decade please just enjoy the moment like this....

Because it's stuck in a creative purgatory. They've probably scrapped enough Half Life 3 content to make an entirely new trilogy. Valve's identity has changed so drastically since the days of HL2 that they've probably gone a million different directions with the game, but ultimately committed to none of them.

So it's not formally cancelled, but it's on life support indefinitely.

I miss B-teir games that wern't manufactured to succeed. Even Nintendo who aren't in a brilliant position ship out games that won't set sales charts on fire like Bayonetta 2 and Pikmin 3. Goodwill and decency to fans goes a long way to making a company great and I'm sure a lot of us would like Valve a heck of a lot more if they finally shipped Half Life 3. Risks should be taken.

I reckon they should out source (see what I did there) development of the game just to get it out. Get Bungie or someone Sci-Fi FPSey to make it in Source 2, just to put the convo to bed.
