Halfway through Gotham season 1,does it get better?

It was kinda crap at the start but towards the end of s1 I started to enjoy it more

And in season 2 it became my favorite comic book tv series easily. Showrunner did damn good work on that turnaround once they knew exactly what kind of show they wanted and what worked and didn't (they drop the awful Barbara romance drama)

BD Wong's Hugo Strange is absurdly entertaining in a show already packed with great villains

It might not be for you. I dropped the show halfway through Season 1, but then picked it up again because everyone was saying the last arc was getting good. During the back half of S1 they started doing 2-3 episode arcs, which is where the show got more watchable for me.

Season 2 has been a lot of fun, but it's not for everyone. It's like a combination of the Burton Batman films and Batman: The Animated Series. Sometimes it swings very heavily into the ridiculous, which might not be what you're into.

That description sounds damn good to me though. I'll definitely give it a shot. It's too bad Netflix doesn't have the second season yet, gonna have to see how I'm going to check it out.

I loved season one and I don't see what was bad about it. I just wanted to see what happens next.

Sounds like I will enjoy season 2 once Netflix decides to put it up.

Episode 16

Well it's quite clear to me that Gotham's characters are its strong suit. Just saw the episode where Jerome is introduced and man, when he was being questioned by the police and he completely changed his behavior and how he acted, that was damn good. They really know how to cast people, especially the villains. Too bad I'm still not seeing any of them in their outfits. I definitely liked the scene where Don Maroni is talking to Penguin in that cabin, when he already knows about his secret. Nothing new, but good stuff.

But for each great scene comes some stupid shit as well. The whole stuff with Fish and her new location seems very very pointless, and that scene where her boat gets attacked, right before the end of that episode, boy that looked stupid as hell. Just as Barbara, God she is damn pointless. And now with Butch being a completely different man and listens to every of Penguin's command? Because Victor did some good work on him? Kind of odd. I didn't realize Victor had such abilities.

But it definitely has plenty of strong moments, enough so far for me to keep watching. I really do hope we'll get to see villains in their outfits at one point and eventually a introduction of Batman would be great too. But they would have to skip a lot of years for that.

Finished Season 1 yesterday. Absolutely ridiculous finale full of nonsensical shit. Fish returning with a hilariously dumb new look, that haircut and outfit. Cat all of a sudden in her gang, totally going against Gordon, so at this point him helping her find a new place to live apparently meant nothing to her. All in all just not very good at all.

I then decided to start with Season 2. I've watched the first three episodes and I already dig it a lot more than Season 1. It seems more consistent, doesn't put every damn character in every episode and really feels like a big change, big improvement over the first season. I don't mind Barbara anymore, of course it's utterly ridiculous how she turned into this batshit crazy person now, but I don't know, it's enjoyable.

Then there's Jerome, spoilers if people have not seen season 2 yet.

I think he's doing a damn good job here. His smile reminds me of a young Jack Nicholson and the way he acts and behaves.... he IS the Joker. But he's not? They already killed him off? So unless they are coming with some resurrection stuff, there's going to be a a completely different Joker at some point? I find it a shame if he doesn't return, because he IS perfect for the role. Sure, at times it slightly looks like overacting, but for the most part he's awesome. I'm sure if he had worn the outfit and the complete look, he would have been one awesome young Joker.

All in all I am glad I decided to listen to you guys, because so far it's indeed a whole lot better. The violence is very much there, probably even more. Those scenes on the rooftop with the villains and with that cheerleader bus, that was some good stuff.

I found the first episode so cheesy and poorly acted that I dropped the series.

Should I power through the first season or jump straight to the second?

don't know what it is, but my friends kept telling me that it was a must that i started watching Gotham. After I told them I absolutely loved Daredevil season 1 and 2 and just plenty of other (non) superhero shows. Most of the characters so far in Gotham seem good, they do their thing. I don't mind Gordon at all, I think he's doing a fine job and Bullock is fine as well. The stuff right now with Gordon's girlfriend is laughable though, but that's just small stuff. I like the atmosphere and that we actually see violence and blood, unlike the way too tame and friendly Arrow.

But so far that's just it, it's a decent show but far from amazing. Very little here that is memorable to me or makes me say "oh damn, now that was awesome". Bruce's story is fun I guess but nothing that I would miss if it hadn't been in it. It also seems the show isn't consistent, at times very predictable and at times I just rather skip the episode because it's just not really interesting. Are we ever going to see the villains in their real outfits or is this just not that show? Also, what is up with the music? Most of the time it really doesn't suit the show at all.

I keep watching it daily on Netflix hoping it's finally going to be something really special, after the things my friends called it.... like... "absolutely brilliant show, one of the best, man you need to see this right now."

Does it get better? Episode I left at was with Gordon working at Arkham for the first time.
Not great but definitely better than Flash or Arrow.

Season 1 took itself seriously, so season 2 jumped up the cheese factor and the who gives a crap we a comic book show and they fully embrace what it is, so that should be rewarded.

Flash will always be my flawless comic show, but Gotham is a nice solid 2nd-3rd place for me.

I'm actually really enjoying season 1. My next episode is where Gordon starts in Arkham so exactly where you dropped the show and I'm really looking forward to watching later today :D

I honestly don't like the DC comics side of things and am more akin to the marvel universe, but damn gotham is a great show. Favorite character so far: Alfred Pennyworth

Don't expect serious mature, it'll only get bonkers and that for me is when the show is great

Well the scenes so far in S2

Where the Maniax drop people from the roof, stabbings that can be considered quite graphic. Like when Jerome stabs his dad in the eye and so on.

I would definitely consider that mature, but it's going to be less of this? That would be a shame, it clearly seemed to embrace it and I like that. But again, it's a shame they
already killed off Jerome, because even if he's not going to be THE Joker, they could have kept him for a bit longer for some nice scenes of chaos and violence. I hope it won't go downhill from here. And when they finally introduce the real Joker, I hope he'll do as good a job as Jerome.

It has gotten so much better with the second season, it feels like they embraced insanity completely which has made for a really fun show.

Damn, Flash is that good then? I only watched the pilot and I digged it but didn't continue yet. As long as it's nothing like Arrow, because that one just has too much melodrama shit for my liking and just way too predictable and simply.... just not very fun.

It does, but you have to embrace the show for the brand of crazy it is. I like it because the show is weird and it knows it, it runs with the crazy.

Just saw episode 8...

I just can't help it, but as soon as I see scenes with Barbara where she acts all batshit crazy and what not, I just have to laugh. I'm just not buying it at all. I keep seeing the well mannered and decent Barbara from the first few Season 1 episodes. It's not like her acting is bad, she does a decent enough job I guess but I just don't care at all. I was actually cheering when it seemed to be her end..... but nope.

I am greatly enjoying Nygma's scenes though, man that guy is nailing it. Some of these characters are just so damn well cast.

I feel like giggling at Crazy Barb is sort of the correct reaction; she really is allllll the way out there.

Glad to see you're enjoying Season 2 more, it's where the show transformed from "entertaining, but shaky" to god-tier television for me.

This thread is seriously lacking in gifs of people exploding.

Gotham, the show where people don't make the worst choices, they make the most INSANE choices. Every. Single. Time.
