Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach

Nope, the have dibs. If Ms passes then bungie can choose who gets it :P
I doubt MS would pass a Bungie game then. As much as I like Halo though, I just want to hear something about their new IP.

I wish there was a way to buy ODST seperate via the marketplace at a cheaper price for the people who've already bought the Legendary/Mythic maps.

No, it's really not justified. But then again, this is E3 and the game is Halo. So there you go, poop away.

The best franchises always draw the most ire.

:lol :lol :lol So an ODST basically being a spartan minus a shield isn't anything to be irked over? You know, going against almost all halo lore? Or a $60 price tag? Or the MP?

Awwwww, I thought those were good reasons! Care to debunk the hate using reasoning instead of the usual "it's popular so people hate it" shit that is, in itself, a lazy cope out to defend against hate towards many things?

Shit son, I always thought ODSTs could fly. Why aren't they flying?

How do you show those few differences in a way that makes sense gameplay wise? The shield is a HUGE part of how you play in Halo.

Although all we have is what we've been given, it basically appears to be a reskinned halo 3, which imo, makes absolutely NO SENSE.

When a squad of ODSTs or marines in halo come across covenant, it's supposedly a huge deal. A single hunter would be an epic boss fight for 4 ODSTs. In contrast, a spartan is like a superhero that can single-handedly turn the tides of a battle. I didn't get any vibes like that from the video. An ODST with the movement and aiming capabilities of a spartan is crazy.

I was hoping for a ghost recon-ish ODST game where tactics and brains had to used to down dangerous covies. Instead, it looks to be a flashy point and shoot game. With Halo 3 graphics. In a Halo 2 level. With ODSTs...

First "few", the hard number was never specified. Two or three sound about right. Given how MS has been jerking Bungie around I'm sure they'd like to be out sooner rather than later. But they are definitely home free after some number of games; in the next 2-3 years they'll be fully independent.
I wonder if them being independent will change the quality of their titles at all, or it will just make Bungie as a company happier.

Also, firefight sounds really exciting. I am a sucker for Bungie collector editions, so I will get this one for sure. I want that ODST controller. Horde Mode + Forge customization = HEAVEN!

When watching all the other cool shit they showed during the conference, it struck me how irrelevant this game is. It looks like a mod. Pathetic.

That's CALLED DEvil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening.

Not Devil May Cry: Dante's Awakening.

Falagard said:
Wut? No. You can play 4 player co-op through the entire campaign.

Checked the Bungie website. It's pretty clear the only co-op option is Firefight.

Is anyone listening to the 1up podcast from today? Garnett claims the first part of the live demo, where the Rookie jumps down, wanders around, tries out the visor & shoots some grunts and a brute was not from the game proper, but was just an e3 demo setup. That really makes sense, and I hope it's true... but then again it's Garnett.

Also, what is your guess regarding the engine for Reach? I hope it will be a different engine. The Halo 3 is a solid base for an engine. I am not expecting a jump like the one from Halo 1 to Halo 2, that would make Halo Reach look insane, but hope it puts it one par with CoD 5 graphically while still maintaining the scope of the Halo series.

Are you hoping the demoed sections are not part of the campaign, but for the reverse reasons as Halo 2's infamous "here's the part of the game that won't ever appear"?

The reason Bungie's trailers don't make sense is not because they don't depict awesome moments, but because there is absolutely no sense of the pace or flow of events that lead to that point. So everything just looks fucking lame. These demoed moments damn well better be in the campaign in some close form.

People will continue to hate on Halo, and how it is does not matter anymore. But hey guess what Millions upon millions buy the Hardware to play Halo.. versus COD or any other game which are multiplatform; and last time I checked MS still wants to sell their hardware. So a big LOL to all the people who think a Halo game does not matter.

No. Bungie will continue the story of the Master Chief eventually.

I wasn't all that impressed by the ODST demo, but the Halo series is one of those games I never get hyped about prior to launch. Come their release, however, I really enjoy them.

Sales do not equal quality, especially when it comes to anything Halo related. I'm sure this game will do incredibly well.

Excited for Halo Reach, though. I want a Halo game that looks and feels like the CG cutscenes in Halo Wars.

This thread has just reaffirmed to me how Sony skewed this place is.
I think, in this case, it's just a general Halo fatigue. The ODST demo looked like... Halo 3?

And honestly, when a game doesn't look "ZOMG THE GRAPHICS I'M CUMMING", it's much harder to get the fanboys up in arms.

Not at all. They showed off night-vision like it was some sort of big feature. Is this 1998?

ok so you didn't think night vision was a big deal. But you think ODST is irrelevant? really?

Of course it's going to look similar to Halo 3. It's an expansion to Halo 3? Runs on the same engine? so uh, yeah don't know what else to tell you there.

My point was, people com ein here calling this game pathetic looking, boring yadda yadda.

Let's see a member last more than 2 seconds calling Killzone 2 pathetic in a Killzone 2 love thread.

You can pretty much say what you want about the Wii and 360 in here, but speak even SLIGHTLY out of line about Sony, and your head goes chop.

Quality is another issue that has imo nothing related to the importance of said property. I was just stating that in terms of "important" games, Halo is the most important one.

Many people think Halo 3's quality was so so. But at the end of the day it did its job. and So will these next 2 Halo games.

But yes, I also want a Halo game to look like the CG scenes of Halo Wars.

In terms of gaming, yes.

I don't care about sales or anything related to that. It's bound to sell millions.

I think you should be thankful. It means this side of GAF is sane. ;)

They could be alright. Storywise and gameplay wise both should be rich and entertaining.

I think being a grunt holding the fort down in Mombasa would be awesome. Equally so for the teams of spartans in reach
Before we lose and everyone dies. : (

To be honest I was always more interested in Halo's backstory then MC's romps around the galaxy.

By in here, I mean GAF.

You can troll Wii60 threads pretty much as you please on GAF, but Sony threads are totally off limits.

Not sure why.

I mean fuck, I got banned for telling the Sony fanboys to stop complaining that Killzone 2 didn't get a 10, and tried to explain why 9.5 is still a great score, and the game is obviously not perfect..

Oh and as far as the graphics are concerned, saying they look like Halo3's isn't an insult, I'm just using it as a way of pointing out why some people might not be super-hyped for the game already. It isn't pushing the easy hype buttons, such as the whole shiny new graphics thing that some games get.

Once they get a taste of that sweet sweet freedom of developing for their own IP; I'm confident they'll never look back. But looking at the timeline; Bungie wont be working on a halo release in 2011 or 2012 (the earliest year we'll probably play their new IP) so maybe in 2013 if it's not a full Halo 4 - scope prject. Which leaves 2014. By then MS will have released 2 or 3 of their own Halo games and the torch will have been passed on.

Even as a hardcore Halo/Bungie fan I can totally see how this demo would disappoint. If it wasn't for my background knowledge of the hub world, co-op, and trust in Bungie; I'd look at this demo as say it looks "alright."

The demo highlights nearly nothing that is supposed to make ODST special but I'm confident those aspects will be revealed in due time. Until then, I have no problem understanding those that aren't hyped for the game.

And could we not turn this thread into a GAF is "teh Sony biased" before y'all scare me back into the Halo 3 thread.

I hope Reach is more of a traditional Halo (aka FPS) with 4 actual classes (sniper, soldier, assualt, recon), rather than a 4 player GRAW.

Explain how, in terms of gaming, Halo 3: ODST is irrelevant.

Actually, I think you might be right. It's irrelevant because Halo 3, after almost 2 years is still leagues ahead of any other console game in terms of its robust feature set and community integration. Halo 3 as a package has set the standard so high, it won't be matched on consoles until the next Bungie game or the next Xbox. Some games don't even do what Halo 2 did. Gamers should expect more from other developers after Halo 3.

There's always a chance Bungie will do another Halo game, and MS will want another Halo-huge Halo game (developed by Bungie). The people at Bungie will want to continue the story of the Master Chief and will go to MS to create that game if MS doesn't come to them first.

They are a multi-project studio, now: you're only looking at said "timeline" as if they are working on one project at a time.

To many COD4 did it better. Having Photo's, Video, co-op, forge is leagues better than having a reward system like COD. And MW2 having no co-op is freaking stupid.

I don't really like the idea of classes. Some games like TF2 do it right but I've always enjoyed Halo's flexibility in that you're not constrained to a certain role upon spawn. You're an all purpose killing/flag grabbing machine and change your play style to what weapon you pick up.

Then again, I have a lot of trouble imagining what I'd want Bungie to do with their next FPS (Halo or not) because their formula right now plays so well. I leave that task up to Bungie; but I don't expect reach to be too big of a departure from Halo 3.

MW2 with Bungie's community system.
Halo Reach with IW's reward system.

Believe.

I hope its not a departure. Because I do not want GRAW in my Halo. For the first time Bungie have a great setup. They can actually have the players play as 4 different Spartans, and each have some "extra" thing that only they can do. (run, good at sniping etc.) But that doesnt mean they have to limit the weapons each can use. Have all the players be able to pick up any weapon, however just if you are a sniper class, make it so that you are better at sniping versus who isnt a sniper class, by perhaps making your zoom distance larger.

But no TF2/COD classes, or GRAW camera please.

I wouldn't be against the idea of perks, I suppose.

But yeah, if I had to guess I'd say you don't have much to worry about in regards to them changing the formula too much in Reach. I'd love to see what they could do within the framework of Halo and really do something different as I've played Halo for the past 9 years; but hey, I've played it for 9 years and I still have a blast with it.

I'm just dying to see if they have any other formulas that could compete with Halo's; especially if they stick to shooters. This is why I want their new IP along with it no longer having MS breathe down their necks.

If that's true then it's institutional, and as this isn't a publicly owned forum there's jack that can be done about it. If it's not true then there's jack to be done about it. Either way it's a tangent to nowhere.

I still remember all the arguements over if Bungie was making the next halo or not. And I think me and Omlet were the only ones who said Bungie = Next Halo.

No one else Believed. :lol

With that said, didnt bungie once say they have 3 projects going. 1 = ODST, 2 = far off = Reach, 3 = Extremely Far off?

It's probably because I played through Halo 3 with my friend last Monday so Halo is fresh in my mind, but I'm a lot more excited for both of these games than I thought I would be.

Do not want. An updated reward system would be really awesome for the next Halo multiplayer experience, but I don't want the game to constantly throw rewards all over my face like I'm an insecure gamer who constantly needs to be reassured that I'm "awesome". I don't want to feel like if I take two steps forward as soon as I start the game, I'm about to get 500+ exp for it. I hope if Bungie does decide to go this route, it's a severely toned down version of MW's system.

It's human nature to love the dick sucking a e-peening. I know it's cool to act like you're above it all, but it's human nature. Definitely doesn't detract from the game either and is obviously a big incentive for many gamers to keep playing.

I'm hoping we get some real video of this tomorrow, I want to see how the "stealth esque" works.

I know that Halo: reach is probably on the same timeline as Halo 3 from annoucement to release (15 months), but it feels so much faster since we know nothing at all about it. Deails people, details.

A lot of media outlets say they're demoing ODST but I'm pretty sure Staten said they were showing off the Firefight (survival) mode. Doubt there's much stealth involvrd there.

Don't act like I wasn't playing CoD 4 daily before that, and just decided out of the blue to play it right then and there when double exp hit. It's a good game, I just don't like the OMG EXP DOWN YOUR THROAT stuff. I've expressed it before and you seemed to agree with me then; dunno what's up with the big turn around all of a sudden.
