Bungie has posted their Halo 3: Behind the Scenes doc today. It's basically fluff, but pretty interesting. Included are some gorgeous new views of the trailer from the free-roaming camera, similar to what must've been showed behind closed doors, as well as some unrevealed character designs that pop up on an artist's monitor at the 3:03 mark.

The making of the Halo 3 trailer was one of those cool, fun little islands of frantic activity in the otherwise regimented, disciplined stream of production. Jim McQuillan, our long time partner at Film Oasis and now full-time Bungie employee, was on hand to document the activity and behind the scenes antics of the making of the trailer.

well he's holding a new gun whoever he is

it almost like the character is not standing like a brute... i'm not sure what to make of it

Eh.. it's wearing the Elite style helmet, and you can see the mouth/jawline. It's an Elite.
 
Can someone explain to me why my computer displays everything like I am in safe mode and some message about my video driver pops up whenever I try to watch the high quality movie (I never tried the other versions)? It also did this with the HL2: Episode 1 trailer, it's very annoying because I have to restart my computer everytime this happens, is it too much for my "intel extreme graphics" to handle or maybe my resolution?

Matches the style of the brute shot from H2, so some kind of brute sidearm I suppose.

They can write it into the MP "storyline" that they're using experimental shield tech for all I care. All they'd have to do it make the shield effect a different color heh.

I disagree. Brute weapons weren't bright blues and purples like other Covie weaponry is.

All I see is a non-blade curved bottom, unless we're looking at different things.

From the side it's hard to tell. But the curved bottom part looks alot like smooth, flat metal, not rounded like the base of a gun is. Hopefully we get a better image when the HD one hits Live.

Wow, that documentary has me so pumped right now.

I hope they have large cliffs and stuff like that in the online portion of the game. I want greater environments.
 
Thats one weird ass Elite, providing it is a Elite, looks like he has half a Gundam on his back. Looks like a jet pack to me too, though it took me like 5 minutes just to work out where the Elites head was :lol

Maybe more heretics, or more likely the Arbiters followers (I guess they the same thing now). Failing that, Elites may just like to dress up when the have the chance to cleanse a entire race.
 
I forget about what happened at the end of halo 2. Are the covenant and humans working together now or what? I thought Arbiter and MC were teaming up.

arbiter was with jonhson and keyes after they stopped delta halo from going off - talking to guilty spark. Guilty spark said the ring network goes to standby when a ring fails to go off, now they can all be remotely activated from the ark (which again, was alluded to be on earth - what we're seeing in the trailers)

master chief is a stow away on a forerunner ship that one of the prophets were taking to earth - to the ark presumably. Also the rest of the covenent fleet were going to come to earth though it wasn't pictured (the fleet is absolutely massive compared to what the humans were facing through the course of the game)

and the covenant are currently in the middle of a civil war because some of the covenant don't believe in the prophecy and because of the changing from elites to brutes as the prophets protectors.
 
I'm thinking maybe I shouldn't watch this at all, because it's simply going to leave me with an extraordinary case of figurative blue balls.

Well it doesn't spread world/universe wide, but it's Humans/Elites VS the remainder of the Covenant/Brutes and Truth (last high prophet) VS Gravemind & The Flood.

I forget which sides the Jackals and Grunts were on, but I think the Grunts sided with the Elites and the Jackals sided with the Brutes.

I love how Bungie planted that shot of the Elite and new gun right in the middle of the documentary, knowing full well that it's what the fans would latch onto.

And if you look very, very carefully, you'll see hints of things to come. Nothing too dramatic, but the fans will spot stuff, of that we're certain.

Grunts, Elites and Hunters

vs

Brutes, Jackals and Buggers (and Prophet)

Think it is just a small fraction of the covenant led by the arbiter that know that halo
will destroy the universe
. They arrose durring the covenant "civil war" as far as I could tell in 2.
