AC6 is good but not good enough to be in a GOTY list, especially when put ahead of a game such as Uncharted. It makes me wonder what TIME looks for in games when putting together these lists.

Super mario galaxy is my personally game of the year
but let give bungie their award, because they won't be making another halo game anymore (thank god).
Mario games will still be made (and hopefully now by the team of donkey kong jungle beat).

halo 3 made tons of cash but disappointed tons of gamers at the same time. no one was making comparisons during Halo 1 or 2. Those were the best game of their time. Halo 3 is laughed at by many and most argue COD4 is better.
then you have PGR4. it sold something lik 38,000 copies its first week?
i'm most disappointed with Halo 3 though. from the first hour of play, i remember the framerate at ~20FPS during 4 player co-op. dont go for it unless you can perfect it; or dont let microsoft force you to release a game that isnt finished. same goes for the lack of AA.

I don't agree with Zelda being on there and I haven't played the retail version of AC6, but I don't understand a world where Ratchet and Uncharted are not on ANYONE'S top ten. That list also needs more Forza 2 and Metroid love. Otherwise, it's a surprisingly solid list from a mainstream publication.

if you are referring to quality/polish...it is very farfetched to say all those games are "killing" halo 3 as well.
if you are going by your opinion of the game in terms of fun factor/etc.....then yea...thats just your opinion. but "kill" still is farfetched regardless.

Thing is Halo3 as a package ticks more boxes than any console game before. A fantastic co-op campaign, massive online content, a single player experience which at it's worst good and at best great and of course the photo and video modes that although not fundemental to the game add to the overall experience. I think as a total package Halo3 is worthy candidate for GOTY. Tripe I think not.

Just wanted to say though i enjoyed a wide range of games this year (possibly one of, if not the best years since I started gaming)

You cant just pick up a ball and take on Jordan, and unfortunately Halo is the Jordan of the FPS generation. (argue merits all you like, how many other games have companies literally begging to promote it to cross promote their own products, apart from car games but duh they are car games)
And Bungie did it just like Jordan, quietly, unassumingly laying a candy coated layer of smack down all over its opponents and then smiling like yeah its that easy for me.

I just want to point out that if more of the same was a bad thing, the NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL would all be out of business.
Halo 3 offers deeper gameplay than CoD4 and Half-Life. Portal should be on that list by itself or with TF2. More of the same is not bad when "the same = awesome."

If you believe the majority on GAF, Halo 2 was a massive let down. The MP wasn't balanced well, and the campaign a linear shadow of Halo 1's glory. Rarely does a sequel to a major title disappoint and then be followed by a wildly successful second sequel. Halo 2 was flawed, but that didn't prevent over five million people from buying Halo 3 since launch. It's probably safe to say that most of those people enjoyed their experience.
