Dont get me wrong, i love the soundtrack. I bought it on itunes. But no monks is like changing the star wars theme. You just dont do it.

You wanna make new music, go right ahead. But don't remove an iconic theme song from a franchise that had millions of people humming it for days after they played the game. Its a no-no, its stupid and it makes them look cheap.

Having the main theme in there doesn't stop them from being creative with the other 21 songs on the soundtrack....

Indeed.

Yep. I've been saying it all along. This game is missing Marty big time from the look of things. You can't have another HALO game with Chief and Cortana and ditch the HALO theme. It's like ditching John Williams and the Raiders march in an Indy movie.

The music on H4's soundtrack might be nice or even great compared to what people were expecting in his absence, but it's still no Marty Odonnell.

I can't wait for Bungie to finally unveil their long-awaited game, if only because I need some more Marty magic.

I'm not sold on Marty's work overall, but the Halo theme is the Halo theme. Some throwback should be there, for brand identity. A new composer and a new score, that's all great. But not the loss of the main theme.

This one?

I disagree. It was a nice gameplay montage in the middle. Music was great as always. but the only good parts were Truths speech at the start and the glassing at the end.

"There are those who said this day would never come." ad still gets me pumped to this day, an amazing trailer. (Even though I enjoyed Halo 3 more than 2)

This I think has a similar effect. It's definitely going in a different direction, but the Forerunner voice, Chief, the new enemies, the feeling that MC is finally outmatched, etc all make this H4 trailer one to remember in my opinion.

Marty's score was so fucking epic epic epic in Halo 3. The new game has much better graphics but for some reason I'm just not feeling it.

I'm betting that in the final moments of Halo 4 they will actually re-introduce the theme.
Kinda like in Casino Royale where the protagonist goes 'Bond. James Bond.'.
Or the final narration in The Dark Knight.

Everyone will be asking for a website so they can give it a 11 review straight up.

Was just about to post this. It's good to give the main theme a break in my opinion. When they finally do bring it back fully, it'll be a really memorable moment. It worked great in Casino Royale, where they only hinted at the main theme before finally playing it at the very end.

It'll either be a during the story's climax or when (and if) you come upon a Halo ring.

I think this trailer would have had more impact if it opened with the FUD in space, then getting sucked into Requiem before revealing MC, etc. Also, the music could have used a little extra punch.

It weird, its like the commercials and marketing got worse compared to 3/ODST/Reach but the game got better to compensate. :lol

Sad day indeed, but Im going out on a limb and going to guess there is a 'good reason'. Still, I wish they would have dropped this bomb earlier.

Has 343 said anything about it? The whole time we've been told to expect something similar to Reach and they forget to mention oh there's no Campaign Theater and wait for us to get the game or hackers to leak the info?

How fuckin great is the ODST soundtrack, god damn. Reach soundtrack tried so hard to be somber and just ended up being boring, but ODST's was amazing. Wish it could've been attached to a better game. ODST was decent don't get me wrong, I loved the atmosphere, but you could really feel the limited scope/budget/whatever of the project.

I'm not talking about the monk chant when I say the HALO theme. I'm talking about Rock Anthem for Saving the World.

They saved that for the last part of HALO 3, so it's already been done. We haven't heard it since 2007. It's been long enough.

Mjolner mix is still the best incarnation, however.

At which part does it play in Halo 3?

I think I am going do a speed run if Halo 3 just before launch. Could use a refresher, haven't beat it in a couple years.

To be fair, Halo 3 also has the amazing arrange from the E3 trailer, "this is the hour".

On the theme in Halo 4, I'm unspoiled but I'm managing my expectations: I'd hate to expect a surprise for the whole game only to discover it's nowhere to be heard. OoT and MGS4 already fucked me hard back in their respective days.
(yeah, I didn't know about the plagiarism thing when I first played MGS4)

Again, I don't want it to be a Halo 3 like soundtrack, full of references and echoes (which made sense and were awesome), I'm just saying this theme should be somewhere in the game because it's a strong part of the identity of the series, like spartan cyborg dude, coop split screen, cool melee, sticky grenades, wacky physics, gorgeous skyboxes and fun emergent fights are.

Yeah, it would be nice for the theme to make an appearance somewhere, that said, it not being in the OST is pretty much a confirmation its not right? Or is there still a chance?

Eh, to me it feels like a theme for a trilogy that has ended. With a new trilogy and a new focus I'm content with it staying on the first three games.

That gameplay trailer was very forgettable. I was hoping for something more like Halo 2.

I think it was very similar to Halo 2's.

Fact is, the Halo 2 trailer had something going for it that this one could never possibly have.

The "Oh shit the Covenant are attacking Earth, must defend Earth!" a huge moment in the Halo lore knowing what happened in the first game, and also a weird kind of gamer patriotism to defend the planet we all live on....(also why the H2 announcement was so awesome, "Earth Card")

This trailer "introduces" a new enemy, and a new world, other than Cortana and Chief, there are no familiar elements for people to get that "oh shit" feeling from.

I think given that they had to make a trailer for the first game in a trilogy, this functioned quite well.

Only by Halo 5, will 343i have the opportunity to make that great "sequel" trailer. IMO. And even then they wont be able to pull the "Earth Card".

I actually agree with most of this. Looking back, even the Halo 2 trailer wasn't as amazing as the Halo 3 trailers IMO. The impression left by the Halo 2 trailer was escalated by the fact that the covenant were attacking earth and that this was the first sequel to Halo, so expectations were at an all time high.

IMO the Halo 3 E3 2007 trailer was better than either of these trailers being discussed.

Meh, no really well done motion blur, lighting & the overall vibrant colors & environments of the 3rd game. Some minor bump in polygons for characters & textures on weapons don't make up for it.

Everything was great, but everything was also tarnished by the low IQ.

I will say, the new soundtrack is very nice. It does have two very big flaws though IMO; the lack of a new central theme and the lack of the original Halo theme. As other have said, its weird not having it there in any way shape or form. Its like making JP4 without the JP theme or SW without its theme. The new music is fantastic, and different, but it feels strange not having the iconic theme at all. I think people will love the music from this game, but the lack of a new theme or original theme will hold it back a bit.

Imo, Halo 4 blows 3 out of the water in every aspect I've seen.

That guy is either blind, or trying to stir some shit up. Either way, hes wrong. Halo4 not only easily blows the other halo games out of the water visually, but it blows a lot of other franchises out of the water as well.

Having listened to the full OST now, I think I have to backpedal a bit about the original Halo theme (not) being included. It wouldn't mesh, and this really has its own flavor. It still feels weird to just drop the theme, but it makes sense in context of the OST.
