Halo 4 looks a little like Metroid Prime (and that's a good thing)

Gummb

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about Rayman Legends Wii U.
So happy someone is taking notes from Metroid Prime! Finally!

That said, this honestly makes me want Metroid Prime 4 rather than Halo. XD

You know it's all good now, but it's only a matter of time before it gets back to...

"I miss when Halo was true Halo, not some other game"

As I get older I've had an itch to go back and play through the Metroid Prime games. I got close to finishing the first one but ultimately fell out of the franchise.

This means that we will finaly see the face of Master Chief ?

I'm all for any game taking notes and ideas from Metroid Prime !
Lets hope for some awesome Helmet effects =3

Hell yea. Metroid Prime with some really nice A.I. would be incredible. I think the quiet music in ODST overworld would suit Metroid very well as well.

Metroid Prime looked great and boasted amazing atmosphere, but I'll just hope that Halo 4 has much better enemy AI and no backtracking. Those two elements of MP shifted the game from "Top 10 all-time" to "Top 100" for me.

Also, with all of the focus on Halo 4's improved visuals, I'm really hoping big, open environments and large scale battles were not one of the compromises.

Edit: I should have read the whole thread. I guess you guys are all over the AI stuff already.

Scale of the world and scale/variety of combat encounters. Some of the Metroid games felt like killing things in small pretty boxes.

Something like ODST with a large map for each planet, only with the flora and fauna (and scanning) present in the Metroid games.

Complaining about backtracking in a Metroid game is like complaining about moving gems in Bejeweled.

Fair enough. The game hinges on your return to familiar areas with new abilities that enable fresh progress, but I wish it didn't have to work that way (e.g., perhaps the new abilities could be tied to progress in a different way).

I probably just don't like Metroid as much as most people.

Metroid Prime 3 was a huge departure from the previous two games and did its damnedest to kill any sense of user exploration or cohesiveness. Fuck it I hated that game. I don't know if it was Nintendo's response to Halo, but it was Nintendo's response to something, and it was terrible.

Bro. Fist. God I hate that game.

I'll honestly just take an HD full remake of Prime 1 or 2 than a Metroid Prime 4 that's in the same direction as Corruption.

This looks pretty neat though, definitely has a MP vibe.

I noticed the Metroid Prime inspiration right away and loved it.

Do we know which Retro Studios guys are working at 343? I think they hired Retro's lead designer or something and a few other dudes.

I thought the same thing when I saw the Halo 4 trailer in the conference.

I thought "Great, it looks like Metroid Prime, now I have to get an xbox again"

Rest easy, Frankie posted this on GAF the other day:
The demo is a tight, constrained and dense set of encounters to introduce new elements - in the shipping game those events will have more air. Encounters will often be as big, sometimes bigger than traditional Halo areas. Lots of exploration and biiiig spaces for vehicles - also true for Spartan Ops.

Sacrilege, I know, but I genuinely think that 343 may top Bungie. It's looking that good to me.

Will wait for the final game but I think they are already moving Halo in an interesting direction. I am sure 343i will do well, especially once they start working on Halo 5 for 720. :D

I am way more interested in seeing what Bungie do next though, considering their pedigree.

Yep this looks more interesting than any halo game since 3.

Honestly Bungie lost their magic with halo after 2 imo. 3 was great, but nowhere near as amazing as 2 or 1, and Reach just dropped the ball and waded in mediocrity. The SP has to be one of the worst I've ever played in recent memory.

Oh, I will of course wait and see, no question. It just looks like they are moving Halo forward more than it has been in the past. I was actually pretty sour on a non-Bungie Halo, but I'll be damned if they are not making it look a hell of a lot more appealing to me than even Reach (Which I loved).

This is the main reason why I'm considering getting Halo 4. I wouldn't even have to think twice to get it if it weren't for the Xbox Live subscription...

This can only be a good thing.

I love the detail within the helmet. There are moments when the insides actually get it up and show details within. Amazing.

Did you try ODST? The campaign in ODST was great to me. Second only to Combat Evolved for me.

How far in the future is this? They have magic guns now?

The right time period for the weapons you are referring to is actually past. The forerunner prometheans are an ancient warrior race, essentially. Coming back to fight you (for an unknown reason, sort of.) They were hyper advanced beyond our comprehension but wiped themselves out to save the universe, or so we thought.

You are never getting a Metroid Prime 4, you guys. Ever. Prime is done.
Fuck you, man.

:(

The part where he uses Promethean Vision and sees all of the whatever the new enemies are called reminded me of getting the X-ray Visor and having all of the Chozo Ghosts attack you. I miss Metroid Prime. :(

I paid good money for this Dynex!
Why not, you can't celebrate Metroid Prime's birthday with the new Splinter Cell. MP1 and SC1 released the same month.

What a month.

I remember getting Metroid Prime, Splinter Cell, and Shinobi for my birthday that year. Really couldn't have done any better than that.

But yeah, I've never been a Halo fan, but I'm actually interested in the direction this one is heading.

Never did, mainly because by the time ODST came out I already grew tired of halo 3.

ODST was a good short game and a different experience (though maybe not different enough) than Halo 3. Much of the initial bad press was because of pricing and expectations. If you can pick it up for under $20 and go into it expecting about 5-6 hours of gameplay it's well worth it.

I remember during the E3 conference, saying out loud ".... it looks like Metroid Prime!" in complete surprise.

This is a good thing. Metroid Prime was the best game of the last generation, and frankly not enough devs learned from it.

You're fucking right it is. Hell I'd say best ever.

Yeah, I'm especially seeing similarities in the enemies and HUD. Those Promethean Knights straight up look like Space Pirates. Oh, the morphing weapons, too.

Haven't seen this previously, but it looks really interesting. The fact that they have designers from Metroid Prime on the team is enough for me to pay attention.

No PC-version I assume?

Are you out of your mind? It was fantastic. Much better than 2, and 2 itself was great.

Sure, if you like escort missions, linearity, diminished isolation, simplified gameplay, and underwhelming upgrades.

That game was the biggest letdown for me.
