Halo 5 A Hero Falls TV Commercial

Not bad as something stand alone, but when I compare it to the other one's that have come before this in Halo Marketing, it's without question the lowest of the bunch.

This ad stinks. Nothing referring to MC dying is going to be a good ad, lol.

Wow, that was just as awful as Halo 4's Launch tv ad.

They just don't make em' like this anymore :( - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciEFe3CHuuY

That's nothing man. That was a good one, but not one single video game advert ever holds a candle to the "Believe" ad for Halo 3.

The actual commercial segment starts at 5:48, but I like all the lead-in with the actor portraying an old veteran of the UNSC.

Is there a reason why they would announce the death of Master Chief? I wouldn't think the public would even be up to date on his activities at all, but in particular spartans are supposed to never be listed KIA.

Couldn't even get like, a McFarlane toy or something?

That was kind of lame. Surprisingly so, they're normally better than that.

Interested to see if a longer cut pulls at the heart strings any better.

Weird trailer.

Didn't know there was supposed to be so much idolization going on with the MC in the general population of earth, people know the guy with such a morbid background story and kids playing with MC action figures.

Man everything about this game has felt like bad 90210 drama injected bullshit. Nothing rings interesting or emotional. Instead its like they lost the entire frigging idea.

Then again thats not the game. *crosses fingers

That was disappointing.

This is like the other end of the scale with the Halo 4 one which was dull CGI, this is dull live action.

A better trailer would be same ONI propaganda but cut with Chief trying to survive a blast zone in an exciting way not a crumbling building and his light goes out after a slab lands on him. The end should have been his hand in frame on the ground grabbing the dirt telling the audience he is in fact still kicking or him looking back at the destruction he just escaped, pick up his weapon ready to kick ass looking out into the alien landscape, sky.

But MC is a Spartan-II. Either way, it was mentioned at the beginning of Halo 4 by dr. Husly that MC was MIA, not KIA. So maybe its the same here? Or perhaps MC went rogue from the USNC, and this is just propoganda from them.

I think that's it. Whatever his 'treachery' is, ONI cannot publicly announce it as it may shake confidence in the Spartans, so they're removing him from the equation by announcing his death.

Personally I don't think it's a particularly good trailer. Their live action Halo 3 and ODST stuff was great though.

Yeah, that wasn't great.

And what's the deal with the Chief's visor turning "off" at the end. Since when is that a thing?

Since his new armor in Halo 5. He remove his old one at the end of Halo 4, I assume thats what explain all the new armor fonction.

I'm scared to say that I liked it lol

It appears to be a cut of an extended video or else the first in a series of ads in the run up to launch.

I thought it set the tone of what kind of game H5 is going to be pretty well.

Trust no one and roll on the next video.

I thought the ad was decent, but not nearly as good as the Halo 3 ads, which pretty much take the cake as far as gaming ads are concerned. "Believe", for example, was an excellent ad.

I'll give it a 7 out of 10.

Have to agree with the consensus that this was pretty meh, especially considering Microsoft's track record on TV commericals.

I'm hoping this is not the main TV Commercial.

What really is bizarre is the gulf in quality between this commercial and Hunt the Truth, which has been amazing. It's not just a visual thing IMO.

Also curious where the date questions lead us...

Wild and crazy theory
In First Strike there is a Forerunner crystal artefact discovered by Halsey that warps time and space, http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Forerunner_Crystal. Is it possible that there is some kind of time manipulation plot device in Halo 5??

Infinitely more like the date is intentionally wrong considering the fact that the MC did not die, and the fact that ONI has a recent history of changing the story/hiding the facts, hence why Hunt the Truth exists, and why similar discrepancies exist in the Locke version live action trailer.

Right, but its a TV commercial to hype up the game. I'm sure there are lots of people out there that don't search the web for gameplay footage.

Hype trailers will always be needed. They get people into the idea of the game and invoke feelings of excitement that gameplay would not. (see WOTLK, BC, and Starry night)
