Halo 5: Guardians Beta Thread | Hot Red on Blue Action

I died in that exact spot, the same way. I was crouched trying to get my shields back. The killcam says "The Guardians", so yea.

^ No player killed him dude, lol. It's a glitched spot or something.

huh. fucking bullshit, what a broken mess this is. i expect more from my demos, er, i mean betas.

Read the whole damn thing. I think the points are valid but I'm having a lot of fun with the beta so I welcome these changes. He really wants to play Halo 2 and 3.

I understand it but he is essentially just a real purist. I don't mean this as a slight to him but the old Halo formula was never going to happen without other things on top of that.

A lot of things he says I agree with but on the whole I disagree.

Can't tell if New Zealander, or Southern Baptist minister....

Both sides of the argument have been shouted from the mountains computer chairs for weeks. At this point it's all personal preference. I think 343 have a bigger issue shipping a functional game than they do keeping things competitively viable. And even that doesn't seem like an issue, since it's solely them.

Honestly at this point I don't think Halo has any competitive momentum. It's just been years of blunder since Reach, and MCC being a complete fucking mess didn't help bring back any momentum either.
Halo 5 may just end up being yet another Halo game stuck in this weird limbo that Halo 4 suffered from.

Also i really do wonder if the casual market will be tired of the thruster gimmick by the time Halo 5 releases, especially with AW selling poorly (for CoD at least), I wonder how different the market will be a year from now.

I don't think COD/Titanfall/et al's issues stem from thruster pack fatigue...

What I meant was if by the end of the year the effect of having the thruster style abilities will wear off and people would have already grown tired of it. I'm really interested in what Treyarch is going to end up doing though.

You're viewing it as a gimmick, and not a possible feature that'll be as second nature to gamers as ADS or sliding was when introduced. Not saying thruster will become that, but there's a possibility.

EDIT: as much as I love Treyach's entries, they're in a lose/lose right now. Oh, another futuristic COD? How original.... Oh, going back to WWII? How boring, no thanks....

Is it fair to compare Halo's thruster to AW? And Halo had it first anyway, sucks that it constantly gets considered a AW ripoff when it was one of the best AA in Halol 4.

I feel similar. I think people just want Halo 2 and 3...which is cool to want. I think there will always be purists out there that don't want things to change (especially when that thing is great to begin with). And often I agree. But it's just simply unrealistic. People like to throw feces at 343i a lot, but even if Bungie were handling Halo still, you can bet your ass we wouldn't be getting something along the lines of pure Halo 2 and 3 (just look at the direction they went with for Reach and then Destiny).

And I have mixed feelings because while I've been having a blast playing Halo MCC the last couple of months, I've also really been enjoying the hell out of Halo 5. Yea, I know it's different...but despite it's differences, I still feel like I'm playing Halo. It's hard to explain...but it feels A LOT more like Halo than Halo 4 did.

I see what everyone is yelling and screaming about with this beta ("ADS"!..."SPRINT"!)...and before I started playing, I was also pretty worried. But then I played. And it's just fun. And to me that's all that really matters.

Wow. Thanks for posting. Very insightful. It helped to clarify some of the nebulus feelings and thoughts about the beta.

I don't know why you're thanking me. I disagree with a lot of what he states in there.

I only made mention of it because it's fucking /long/.

Wonder if 343 will put in a "Pure" playlist (no sprint, smart scope, or thrusters) to satisfy those people. If 343 takes out sprint, I have a feeling the masses won't even look at the MP.

I really don't understand why people take the time to write this, well maybe I can, but they are basically are saying "We want a game that is the exact copy of halo 2 and 3 with better graphics".(Even I imagine if for some reason 343i do a halo 2.5 or 3.5 with best graphics in the market they will also say that it break the game because they are targeting the modern shooters even when that shooters aren't a symnonim of best graphics). For them every new thing implemented is totally wrong and bad, I know that someone can dislike a thing but what they do is ridiculous. If other franchise have the exact gameplay is something but every new halo must be 2.5 or 3.5 to be good.

Finally clawed my way to Onyx I: http://xboxdvr.com/DestiniesReqium/30d31cd9-fa25-4ef9-b0c9-c0a41f5cd1cd

I played another game after that video and handed in another whoopin', so now I am almost halfway through Onyx I. That game I had a guy on my team go 4 kills and 11 deaths and complain the whole game. He even got mad when I "stole" his kill even though he was in no position to finish the kill. He also kept complaining that no one had his back even though he kept running straight into the enemy lines and drew fire from multiple enemies. We still won handily against the enemy team.

Feels good to finally be Onyx, but I am going to push myself until I finally reach Semi-Pro ;). The game was surprisingly smooth tonight, got three or four Killing Frenzies.

The matchmaking in this game is awful. It should not take this long to find matches with a party of three all with open NATs.

OMG I'm trying to do the same now but playing with randoms, I keep getting guys going -15. it's disappointing when I'm +12 in a match, my team loses by 3 or so and I lose 19 points.

Yup, it's just sheer perseverance. I have played Halo 5 completely solo so far, had to go from Gold I all the way to Onyx I. It has definitely been a bumpy road.

Gaf! i bring you my new Halo 2 gun sync :D really worked hard on this one, took me about a week to finish it :/ but i think it came out amazing :)
Enjoy!

this has been the longest beta ever lol

I don't know how you do that, I would not have the patience to sync up all of those video clips.

I doubt even Halo 3 at its prime could take on the modern juggernauts (COD at its sales prime in 2012, Minecraft etc). A lot of these population arguments are disingenuous at best because they are a case of claiming a causal relationship without taking into account changes in the industry.

Xbox Live has grown to a far greater size and Halo's market share has gone down. Halo 2 sold 8 million on 30 million OG Xboxes by the end of that console's lifecycle.

Halo 3 sold more copies but the Xbox 360's sales had bloomed to 80 million a few years later.
Are you saying that this is just a result of the pie getting bigger?

Really?

Food for thought: If modern FPS audiences can't stand a game without sprint (and/or modern ADS implementations), why is CS:GO one of the most-played games on Steam, and why is its twitch viewership astronomically larger than any other FPS? (Is this just an M&K thing and the console space is so fundamentally different?)

I just don't get why so many people are confident that the optimal line between "in line with market standards" and "marginalized by similarity to the leading product(s)" sits in a region with stuff like sprint and ADS. Halo 4's popularity was hit hard when BlOps2 came out, and Halo 3 sat comfortably with great momentum alongside some greatly popular CoD games. What caused that niche to disappear? If anything, why wouldn't the modern market have a healthy thirst for a more "classic" Halo?

People use the market argument because they're complacent with future Halo titles copying trends in other popular games thinking that'll make a difference.

What I'm interested in is what do these people realistically think will happen to the franchise if the axe sprint, etc.? Would it not sell millions? Would the population never exist? Does keeping sprint et al. guarantee so much more success over previous titles that we shouldn't bother discussing it?

Has 343 said anything about quitting penalties?

3 out of the last 5 games have had people quit out... so frustrating. I understand when it's like 30 to 10 or whatever but these have been 8 to 13 and the like. It's like people in league who just rage quit at first blood.

Having to pace your shots meant that the difference between good and bad players got wider which is a good thing. Taking your time to perfectly nail those shots after the reticle resets was something that was never before seen in any Halo. Truly the best in the series.

This has to be sarcasm. It just has to be...

To be fair CS:GO basically has pseudo-sprint in running with knife out

So damn tired of BR starts. I don't see why it's so fun. Not my type of game for H5.

I'm getting placed into games with semi pros with perfect aim...and here's what literally happens every time...

Shoot a player from a distance, they run, regenerate their shields, shoot a player from a distance, they run, regenerate...it's just rinse and repeat.

Not to mention I'm getting spawn killed a second after I respawn.

I can't wait until 343 adds an option to back out of matchmaking without having to quit the game each time.
