Halo Infinite | Multiplayer Overview live now

I hope we still get a Breakout MP game mode. Team Slayer and Breakout are my shit. Big Team Battle can get wild and you catch strays from everywhere. SWAT's good too.

Loved it but my heart sank when they mentioned armour effects. If audio based effects (like grunt birthday in reach) come to infinite, I'm not going to be able to enjoy it in the longer term. :(

Lmao that's how I feel too

I mean, I get it now after being explained (I think...?), but... wtf why, seems all so unnecessary and a weirdly obvious money grab. "Oh you can only unlock this armor during a certain time of the year, but here you can buy a pass that will give you the license to start unlocking right now. Oh yeah and btw, some of them were only available one time, so now if you want that armor you have to buy the pass."

like... wat? Lol if you're going to sell shit then just sell it. Don't hide it behind this weirdly transparent pay wall disguised as a "fun game mechanic" or whatever they're going for.

maybe I'm still not understanding it correctly, which brings me back to your gif comment 😂 like why does this need to anymore complicated than you can buy it now, or unlock in game. There's no need for passes or seasons.
You pay for the opportunity to grind experience for items, lol.

I think you're understanding it incorrectly...

All the big multiplayer games pretty much sell you a battle pass now.

I'll try explain:

Random popular shooting game:
Battle pass season 1 £7.99
100 items to unlock
90 days to complete it, before the next season/battle pass comes out.
But after them 90 days the pass expires and you can not unlock them items anymore if you didn't finish the pass.
If you come into the game late, you'll never be able to go back and unlock them items either

Halo:infinite
The difference would be your pass doesn't expire, you keep it forever.
Meaning you don't feel rushed to finish it or risk losing out on items even though you paid for the pass.
If you come into the game late and see items you would love to have on an OLD pass maybe from a year prior, you could go back and buy the pass and unlock them items.

I feel like I may have explained it poorly, but I hope I made it a little clearer, apologies if I didn't.

I am sure someone could explain it much better than myself.

Edit: the passes are completely optional and can be ignored, they are usually purely cosmetic items.

A Battle Pass is basically a string of unlockables for a particular chapter or season. Let's use Fortnite* as an example.

In each chapter, usually lasting a few months or so, you get a new Battle Pass. As you play and complete challenges, you get XP that goes towards that Battle Pass and you level up. As you level up, you unlock new cosmetic items for you account such as emotes, characters, weapon skins etc.

Now there are two tiers for a Battle Pass, a free one and a paid one. Getting the paid one allows you to unlock everything within that Pass as you level up, whereas the free version only grants you access to a select few items. And with most games, completing a Battle Pass will get you back the credits you initially spent on said Pass.

Normally, once that Battle Pass is gone, that's it. You'll no longer be able to unlock those items, but with way Master Chief Collection and Halo Infinite handle it, previous Battle Passes will always be available for purchase regardless of when you decide to start playing the game. This way it gives you an opportunity to unlock some previous rewards and no longer have to feel like you missed out on stuff because you happened to not be playing during that season.

*This season of Fortnite is actually a bit different from this as you also have an in-game currency that you accumulate from playing and can spend it to unlock items in any order you choose, rather than a linear path like previous Passes, but the core concept remains the same.

But its totally fine right?? They showed a guy trying to use it when someone is in their face with a shotgun!!

And 343 thinks Halo 5 was so amazing they've backtracked on so much of the garbage they put in it. But I'm sure that's because Halo 5 was just too good of a game right??

Funny, all they need to do is delete sprint/slide/clamber from existence and it might finally be a good Halo game. I guess we need to wait another 5 years of dead and irrelevant Halo before they finally accept it.

At least the art style isn't ass anymore.

Boy, you sure seem fun. Halo 5 MP was fun for the most part. I got to level 100 before I moved on to other games. Breakout was awesome.

Congratulations?

I'm sure you'll be having plenty of fun when you get the drop on a player, they drop back for a 10th of a second to pop O/S then dump on you.

But hey, it'll be easy 20-30-40 kill sprees for good players who exploit the broken mechanic.

You think there are going to be that many OS on map? That's nuts.

yeah there's probably 1 OS on like half the maps. this person sounds like they suck at multiplayer games.
He speaks like someone who knows how good players have and will exploit anything they can. The problem only gets worse the more skilled players are.

Im starting to lose track of whether people are being sarcastic or not.

P.S Pocket O/S does seem kinda broken basically a get of jail free card when shit hits the fan.
Then you think about it....isnt every powerful pick up in an arena shooter like that?
Its not like a million people will be running pocket O/S hell might as well complain about the shotguns as well right.
If someone has the shotgun im basically fucked if they get close to me No?

it's not a problem if you take the time to get better at the game. you're acting like it's a broken system when it's not

Only needs to be one. They respawn every 60-90-120 seconds. Simple spacing, exploiting it in a pinch. Broken.

Ha Ha Ha Lol GIF

Keep telling yourself that.

Been playing Halo competitively since Halo:CE

Ah, I see. Ok cool thanks for the explanation, I got it now. Don't think I'm going to buy any, but to those who do: go nuts! Sounds like fun. Still seems easier to just have everything available all the time, for sale or as an unlockable, but I imagine part of the strategy is to get people to come back to the game every couple months to check out new gear and whatnot.

Which Halo MP was like that?
Post the videos so we see all the dynamic, emotional and free environments.
Hell post any MP shooter that you would describe as the antithesis of your post.
Even BF1 would with everything going on knew to put "extra shit" off map because it would be distracting.

But ill wait.
If anything, it is the opposite. Several Halo 5 maps have dynamic elements, such as the cover surrounding the rocket launcher on Empire, or the platform with the active camo on The Rig.

number one thing for me with halo is map design and flow. 343 has yet to make a decent map as far as im concerned and their maps always seem to be metal facilities. its looking like theres a bunch of that here still although it seems at least more varied than halo 5

the best halo maps allow for the building of tension. 5 had a couple. but obviously 2 had the most.

I think the biggest thing they've done is the addition of Screen Space Shadows. It's making the gun models pop a lot more with those micro shadows (alongside the increase texture detail).

Look at the grass and you'll see the way its creating depth and separation between the blades, which was a huge issue with last year's gameplay demo.

Yall should see the Halo sub you know it good when the fateful Halo fans approve cause Halo biggest critics are actually it most loyal fans seem 343 is redeem.

There new battle pass system is money printing. Imagine 2 years, and you missed 22 battle passes. You have to buy them again. More money 💰
Why would you buy them again if you missed them and didnt purchase in the first place?

Kev Kev Kev Kev This just lets you purchase a previous battle pass ans choose what you put your time in to unlock, every battlepass in this day and age, once that season is gone you can never earn or get that content again even if you paid for it.

this system if you payed for that seasons battlepass you will always have access to unlock its content and when your ready to say unlock season 3's content and you want to purchase the BP you can do.

The biggest problem I see with the game is that it's an oldschool arena shooter, where you're running with a shitty pistol the whole time and have to pick everything up, meaning only one person at a time can be using a shotty, SMG, sniper rifle etc. It's 2021, no one want's to play shit like that other than die-hard Halo fanatics (there are dozens of you, I know). So even despite being F2P I think many people might get bored really fast and get back to their favorite BR games instead, which provide similar experience except there are actually shitloads of guns all over the maps and everyone can fully customize their equipment to their liking and game style.

Halo 4 was what you are describing and had the worst Halo MP

that grappling hook has grown on me. very cool how many things you can use it for, thought it would be just for navigation

Best way to think of a cosmetic season pass is look at those in play. The RDR:O is a good one to make an example of. You have your in game level which is maxed out at 100 for ingame progression (health, stamina etc) but it's not capped so you can still level up but you don't get anything. This means you see players at level 107, 403, 679 etc. So you can't just tag another levelling window on because everyone is at weird and different hierarchies.

So you buy an outlaw pass. This lets you level the pass rather than your character. You buy it, then the pass has levels. You earn XP and as you earn each level it unlocks cosmetics according to that level. All these items are exclusive to that pass. So for instance, I didn't buy OP 1 in RDR:O so I can't get those items now.

The grey track is stuff unlocked automatically, the gold track is premium stuff you can unlock when you want rather than sequentially using the blue tokens

As a 'Battlefield guy' I'm actually starting to get more more excited about Halo then I am for 2042 lol.

It just looks like so much fun and the fact that the Battle Passes don't expire is a huge win. More importantly though as someone who basically grew up with Counter-Strike and Quake I think the close combat arena fights (with the occasional vehicle) ultimately sounds like a much more consistent experience in the long term if that makes sense. And one that I'd love to get good at.

I can see BF2042 being lots of over the top fun as well but the lack of content (especially during the launch period in any case) and random nature of every match, what with their crazy weather shenanigans, will get stale fast. I'm a competitive shooter fan at heart so if I'm lining up a shot only to get whisked away by a hurricane then I dunno how much I'll enjoy that after the 20th time of it happening.

Really hope we get some proper multiplayer footage of Infinite sooner rather than later. Holiday 2021 is still so far away. :(

Okay, just watching the multiplayer overview and getting reasonably excited, I think they are making all the right moves in terms of gameplay

The environments look like Halo 5..... static, lifeless, emotionless and stale.

Halo games are supposed to be full of life and make you feel your on an alien world and not in a plastic arena.

This game looks like everything i hated from Halo 5 and more
Just one map they showing. Lighting is much better. Don't forget its 120fps on X. In multiplayer you need clean sharp visuals and high frame rate. Fancy eye candy visuals are only for SP games.

It Looks really good and clean. Multiplayer feels best of Halo 5 and 2 and they showing to everyone how to do Battlepass right way. I hate that in other games with battlepass if you cant unlock everything in 4-8 weeks, you lose it forever.

It looks balanced fun without any p2w bs and above all its free with cross play and cross progression

BF gonna be clusterfuk. I want to know how cross play will work between last gen with 64 players and small maps and 120 players nextgen with large maps?

Looks like a remastered version of Halo 2 by a third rate studio. Regardless, the gameplay looks solid so I'll check it out.

Interesting that they think the Free to Play theory and just apply to a AAA franchise like Halo, not having to pay is a big deal and kinda spoiles the crowds.

Honestly, I hope 2042 has smaller game modes as that is where I'll play most of the time if I get the game.

Btw is there cross-save progression between platforms? Ie: are you able to swap between PC and XBOX seamlessly?
