It'd be awesome if some way they could transform those FF maps into MP, like Bad Company.Ramirez said:Boneyard and Invasion were both equally terrible in the beta. Right, I'm not projecting ahead past launch. You're listing Halo 2's DLC and later machmaking changes to the announced to date Reach shipping maps. Halo 2 shipped with 3 BTB maps, Halo 3 shipped with 3, with Reach we know of 3 so far. (I'm not huge fan of Boneyard, but that had more to do with Invasion and how vehicles were balancedin the Beta than the map.)Striker said:Ghaleon,
The maps like Sanctuary, Ascension, Lockout, Zealot, Reflection, and surely others, I'm not overly worried for Arena and Competitive for CTF, Bomb, or Slayer (4v4). Those will be pretty fun, and plus there's others we haven't seen and two from the Halo: Reach beta. That said, BTB will probably be thin. Halo 2 shipped with Headlong, Coagulation, and Waterworks, but through DLC, we got Terminal, Relic, Containment, and Ninja 0n Fire added Colossus and Burial Mounds through it for Slayer, 1-Flag, and 1-Bomb. Worked extremely well. With Reach, there will likely be Spire and Hemorrhage as far as we know. We're not sure about Boneyard unless they already confirmed it for actual BTB, rather than simply Invasion.
Good to know. That basically confirms the IGN guy wasn't even capable of killing an unarmed flightless bird. Here's hoping he does the review!Ryan_OXM said:When I introduced one to the butt of my assault rifle during Bungie's event it looked pretty dead to me. I actually used that exact link a while back when setting this up. But yea, there is definitely something strange with Apple's implementation of internet sharing ("Think Different" hur hur). I should just boot camp XP onto this, and see if I can get it working that way.cazosozey said:Ok I am not mac hater, I have a macbook pro and my wife has a macbook, but Apples internet sharing is weird as shit for sharing consoles and other devices. I don't have my laptop DMZ'd, because yea, that would be bad. I just tried it to see if it helped (it didn't). And yes, I did try giving the laptop a static IP and forwarding the needed ports to the laptop IP, but that didn't work either. The problem, as I think we are all starting to realize, is something strange in Apple's ICS implementation.Photolysis said:Try opening the Xbox Live ports and forwarding them to your Mac instead (I wouldn't recommend setting it as a DMZ). I'm guessing that the way Apple's ICS is working is that it's almost acting as a proxy server for your console, rather than connecting it to the network directly via the MacBook (MS's ICS might well work in a similar way, I can't remember, and it has other limitations that means it wouldn't work for me anyway).

Yeah, it's 1 Flag on L-shore but with BR/Needler loadouts- it's great 4v4 but the game is broken 6v6- to many needles flying around- it's a shit ton of fun.squidhands said:Pink death abounds.

Most of them are not meant to be played in traditional multiplayer though. That is, you would usually have one very easy to protect building or other location, and then open areas. It would be incredibly unfair for the team starting on the outside.Dani said:I do hope we can use the FF maps as traditional multiplayer spaces somewhere down the line. It would be an inexpensive for sure and I imagine some of those spaces would be interesting in traditional multiplayer.
Best starting combo ever. Until Reach that is, then it will be Pro Pipe and Needler.Lazslo said:Yeah, it's 1 Flag on L-shore but with BR/Needler loadouts- it's great 4v4 but the game is broken 6v6- to many needles flying around- it's a shit ton of fun.
The one thing I learned from hosting the past couple customs is there is a really limited number of maps to play, even with all the forge maps- playing on Sandbox game after game just gets old really fast- but the Forge World looks beautiful- it shouldn't get old as fast as Sandbox and add to that all the locations- we won't even need DLC
Yeah, I think you're right. I'm not too worried about map count. I, too, am one of those people who can play the same map a million times over. And I'm actually going to play more Firefight than anything else, I think... Even in ODST, it's my favorite game mode. I love the way it forces you to work as a team, back-to-back, in a very cohesive, defensive way.Mik2121 said:Most of them are not meant to be played in traditional multiplayer though. That, without even thinking about extra modes like CTF, which require setting the maps up for those modes as well.
Dunno, I don't think we will see the FF maps in traditional MP. Maybe they can edit them out, sort of mirror the maps so that you have two easy to defend locations (the team bases) and cut out some parts (otherwise the maps would be a bit too large). But with that much work, they might make new maps as well :lol

Dax, shut the fuck up. Maybe we'll do DMR/Noobtube loadouts. The grenade shooter seems pretty well balanced. However, I feel like I could kill people faster with the needler then the P-pipe. I'm sure the first thing you'll do is find all the PPipes locations on all the maps :lol I will give you credit though, you stick to your guns- literally. Even on maps I didn't even know had a needler Saturday, you found it and racked up a bunch of kills- you def killed me more times then I killed you, and for that sir- you are a shithead.Dax01 said:Best starting combo ever. Not today, as these types of embargos seem to go up earlier in the day. Not Friday, as MS avoids Friday news dumps of their games. So Tuesday-Thursday. Beyond that, no clue.Demoncarnotaur said:Do we know when the media embargo is up for this week?
Also, I really hope we get to see the Moa's in action. They should be fun...if only we could add ambient life in forge.. I would have a flock of them and try to recreate the Gallimimus scene from Jurassic Park. :lol

After lots of reading, and plenty of trial and error, I have now got it working. Since Apple doesn't give you a GUI to go in and open ports with ICS, I had do dig into Terminal a bit. But, after doing so, I'm running fine, with no NAT errors, all while still using ICS. Here was the link I found that cured my woes...

And hey, I got a question. I'm finally going for those 200,000 points achievements in ODST Firefight. Can you get those while playing with other folks, or do you have to go lone wolf?
Which is my next stop. Riptide was submitted to our official internal playtest group this morning. If all goes to plan, I should be seeing some feedback (and tons of sarcastic remarks) pretty soon.

I have to say, the map actually looks like a solid little slayer map, and with some tweaking would probably make a fun 1 flag map.

Which brings me to this question..
What's the best way to rack up 200,000 points in solo? What's the easiest level, also? (to start from there and get used to it). Also, I'll guess it takes so much longer than doing it with other people, huh..?

Yup! If an 'incompetent' cartographer can do this, imagine what a competent one can do!! :lol (I actually think it looks pretty good, but dunno how much can you actually do in ForgeWorld, so it might be true he's an actual Incompetent Cartographer, who knows...electricpirate said:New Incompetant Cartographer is up.

Yep. I just left UPnP turned on in the router, with no specific ports forwarded. But now that I've got them open in OSX, they are successfully clearing the ICS, and UPnP is working as intended. This would have been MUCH simpler if there was still a menu option in OSX network settings to do this. There used to be, but from 10.5 on, they don't do it the same, thus now we have to dig into terminal. But it's working now, so whatever.cazosozey said:awesome! I had ports forwarded on the router but i didnt think about port forwarding on the mac itself. UGH
Yeah.. finding Japanese people to play is kinda hard, because most of them don't usually want to hook up with completely unknown people. I've also got a classmate that sucks hard at FPS, and I also just added an old friend from the US that lives here (same city as me, so it should be pretty damn smooth) and has the game, so hopefully I can also play with him.Zeouterlimits said:a) Correct about being able to do it solo or with friends
b) Meh, don't get too beat up about it, FF has always had mediocre to terrible netcode. I've had 2 hour games with people (who live in the same city) be absolutely perfect and the very next game with the exact same people be absolutely dire.
c) Normal difficulty is generally the way to go, safest bet while not taking too long.
Yes, it'll take longer, but thems the breaks. Is there anyway you could find some Japan 360 gamers? On 2ch.net or something similar?
I played on Normal, and abused the hell out of the Hammer. You get tons of points for a Dream Crusher. The trick with it is, even if you just melee an enemy with the Hammer, and not the full power strike, it still counts. So, use the full Hammer smash on groups of grunts and jackals for good multi kill bonuses. And use it for stronger enemies if you get cornered. Then use the normal melee strike with it for single grunts an jackals, and if you get some single Brutes. Then, once you get your Dream Crusher medal, and the big point bonus, just kill someone with something other than the Hammer to allow the spree to start over.Mik2121 said:What's the best way to rack up 200,000 points in solo?
