Halo: Reach Campaign Trailer

This worries me. They haven't said anything about it yet.

I really hope Bungie, at the very least, allows us to rewind Campaign films and cuts down the loading time when watching a film clip with a party. Having to wait 1-2 minutes for a ten second clip to start, while in a party for Halo 3, was super lame.

Yeah, someone else taking a feature and actually making it better would be so ludicrous I can't even fathom it.

Honestly any sort of buzz around the theater mode for black ops is stupid, it shouldn't be a big selling point to put something in your game that should have been standard over three years ago. If they improve on it, that's something to write home about.
Is that how you interpreted my post? I think we all know that's all Treyarch is anyways, taking everything Infinity Ward does and puts their own spin on it for the next Call of Duty.

Theater 2.0, please, please, please.
I havent wanted to bring it up in case I'd be setting anyone up for disappointment but in a couple of shots I think I've noticed some shutter speed and focus shenanigans going on in a select few of the screens. I bring this up now because the shot below from the BWU really looks like the mongoose is out of focus or has some motion blur to it. Could just be me but it could also be expanded theater features.

Eazy, I guess I'll slum through a 200K Firefight for my Marty achievement. :(
Haha, shut the fuck up. I'm hopping on now.

@Ramirez You can do that achievement in splitscreen, leaving your main player hidden somewhere while you fight through the round with the second controller.

Snap, this too.

Is the new CoD theater similar to Halo's, where it's game data, or fixed view recording? I've been hoping more games would try to use a theater mode similar to Halo 3.
Game data, because they showed a bunch of theater controls including camera angles. And there's also this screen that suggests that they're going further than Halo 3 by letting people stitch together different segments of a match to make a single highlights clip (which will be uploadable to some site).

Console shooters wise, I think Uncharted 2 has a better Theater mode than Halo 3 too, I don't remember why exactly, but I do remember thinking that after I fooled around on it for about 45 seconds last year. This would be the time for Bungie to leave everyone in the dust again.

Probably because of all the post-processing it had? You could change the focus of the camera, rotate it around, change values (colors), etc...
The only thing lacking was the option to save videos, but otherwise the amount of post-processing alone made it better than Halo 3's theater mode.

So yeah.. I hope Halo Reach has more options for Theater and not just the same thing as Halo 3.

I do think that the Black Ops editor will be part of some kind of subscription service. There has been some rumours about that, and I believe Activision will test their concepts with Black Ops.

And what did I say about Gamescom! I wouldn't mind a Vidoc concentrating on the sound aspect of the game: music, voice actors, and sound effects / tech.

Any news on the goodie we're supposed to hang onto our old Halo PC CD keys for? I assume it's a small tidbit in the armoury or some other minor visual flourish.

I was going to wait until the 14th to change my avatar, but I rather like the batch I made so I uploaded them tonight. Seven in all and they're Nightfall themed (so I should remain recognizable).

"Visual Flair". Almost guaranteed to be an armor piece or an emblem

Thanks for the help with firefight Omlet, Ram, and Thermite.

For some reason our Windward match didn't net me the achievment so that blows but I'll probably get it out of the way this weekend.

Modded 3 times today. It was annoying but pretty entertaining. First time I've been modded since Halo 2. I wish I could control the ban hammer, I would clean this shit up so quickly.

I dreamt about Halo Reach last night. Was playing singleplayer at some strangers house, turned on the flashlight which produced no dynamic shadows, so I turned it off and watched Oprah instead.

Strange.

What do you mean "modded"?

Se7ensins a modding site released a tutorial on how to get aimbots in matchmaking so I expect we'll be seeing much more modding soon, Bungie please fix this crap soon or just make sure it's not possible in Reach. I really don't want to have to deal with another Halo 2.

Oh god, it's Halo 2 all over again...

Well not really, but yeah. I hope this gets stopped. Then again, I really don't play Halo 3 much anymore, I'm ready for Reach!

Bungie will be on it much quicker this time I'm sure, they've got some great tools in place to detect and end this stuff. Even if it proves a persistent problem, we'll all be moving on to Reach in a month :D

I wonder if the Halo 3 diehards will last as long as the Halo 2 guys did. With the rather radical changes in Reach (Bloom, AAs), I can definitely see some people not wanting to migrate. Dunno though, the Halo 2 guys were pretty adamant.

Well, since we're sharing little Halo stories, was playing Social Slayer by myself earlier, got matched against a couple generals, and a couple of brigs, who proceeded to trash on my inferior team on Last Resort, I spent the whole game dying, I probably had a -7 by the time it got to to about 48-38, then I practically single handedly dragged my team to an epic last minute comeback to win it 49-50 (they got the 49 when we had 42 I think). I even ended with a positive k/d after that awful start, shit was clutch lol, made me realize again that I still really love Halo 3 and its ability to occasionally provide moments like these (I don't think I saw a single great last minute slayer comeback in the Reach beta, it was just to easy for people to get killed in some unfair way and give up the last few kills).

You could rewind Firefight clips in the beta, couldn't you? That would suggest it might be possible in Campaign. Also, considering how fast maps loaded in the beta, I think the days of waiting "1-2 minutes" for anything (except Matchmaking, LOL) are probably over.

:lol

Sprinting hammers or

is what I had in mind, but yeah, what the heck, let's toss some douchebag camping in the little roof above powerhouse's dirt path (or any place inaccessible without jetpack) in there too.

No problem, d00d. If I'm online when you go for the 200k on Windward again, feel free to throw me an invite. :)

Firefight clips...in the beta? You mean matches on Overlook or what? ;P

Those were my only two real complaints about Theater mode in Halo 3, so if Bungie improves those two aspects (and there's no reason to think that they won't), I'll be more than happy. Anything else would just be icing on an already sweet cake.

Kinda random, but I just hope I love at least one track on the soundtrack as much as TRAFFIC JAM from ODST. So badass.
I just started listening to that link of that song while I was working on my "Alas, Poor Yorick" achievement for in 3Ball just now, and I started to get on a roll with 1 oddball kill, then 2, and got it with the 3rd right when that song started to climax...

Exactly. Song is greatness wrapped in sexy, and rubs off on anyone listening.

Wooo... I know nobody cares, but the store near my house (finally!) started doing written pre-orders with tickets and I'm #3 for the Limited Edition!! Wooohhh... :P

Zeouterlimits said:
Heh. How much is it in Japan?
6,800 Yen, that's about $79 because the dollar is pretty low right now (two years ago that was about $68), but just so you get an idea, many games here are priced $6,500 (your average for current gen games) and some games like FFXIII was like $9,800 or something crazy like that.

So yeah, pretty cheap for a limited edition.

Zeouterlimits said:
€60? Nice.
Think limited willll be €70 here (but I'm getting Legendary).
Yup. And that's with the current exchange rates.. but two-three years ago, when 1 euro = 165 Yen, a brand new game would cost the equivalent of something between 30€ and 40€. But then again, back then the Euro was way too high. But in relation to how much your average person here gets paid, I guess a 6,800 Yen would be something slightly above 60€.

Campaign matchmaking, infection models are Flood, Flood and/or Engineer in Firefight, new MP and Firefight maps, new vehicles. Better yet, a demo of the new Griffball gametype. Especially with the better net code. Mmm mmm mmmmm.

I'm looking forward to playing Reach at PAX. The countdown to PAX makes it all seem a bit closer.

Don't see the point of campaign matchmaking at all. Campaign is not something I want to play with random strangers, heck I'm not sure if Firefight is either.

Jetpacks were also pretty fun, but shouldn't be allowed into a competitive gametype ala Arena.
If jetpacks aren't in arena games, I'm not playing arena. I don't understand how adding jetpacks is any more different than adding sprint. I scoffed at the beta for having slayer pro/classic be sprint only, like having sprint doesn't totally change the game or something. Who decided this? A true slayer pro/classic wouldn't have any of the new armor abilities. omg jetpacks are cheating :P /nerd rant

You may not utilize it, but the option is great to have.

I really only got annoyed by the jetpack in a few games, and that was just because we lost control of the rockets, and the jetpack guy was just raining hell on us with it and a few grenades.

I generally avoided it though, unless I was trying to get an angle for a nade or to clean up a headshot on a team that was camping. But those situations were pretty rare.

I rarely play competitive Halo (BTB baby), but I feel armour abilities add a sense of randomness which shouldn't be in something like Arena.

Anythings game outside of that though.

Did everyone miss this part?

"According to animation producer Matt Richenburg, All told there are over forty custom assassinations packed into the shipping product, most multiplayer, some specific to campaign.

Many of them are contextually based upon you and your opponent’s position (an aerial assassination is very different than a ground and pound), and a few even depend on whether or not you have some ceremonial plasma in your hot little hands."

That was the best tidbit of the update.

Welcome back.
Not going too nuts over this because you have to have custom assassinations for grunts, jackals, etc. There probably won't be that many for Spartan vs Spartan, which is what really needs the most variation since you'll see them over and over in MP.

But seriously, who assassinates players in MP? There's no point really.

Customs assassinations for those guys are probably the campaign ones.

And really? You don't assassinate in MP? Most people I know did so in the Beta.
It was one of my favorite things to do. Feels good man.

Assassinations screwed me over in the beta 80% of the time.

Has anyone else noticed how time and again in the gameplay vids since the beta you see people trying to get an assassination and it not working? Thing is most of the time they're right behind the other player and the animation just won't go.
