Happy 15th Anniversary, Dynasty Warriors!

Think of all the soldiers that have been killed in these games.

Think of their families.

If I did that I'd end up like Wang Yi.
FjfWFXK.jpg

Fun story, because of her life story being one where her husband and all her sons were killed in battle facing Ma Chao all I do now, no matter who I play as, the moment I see Ma Chao has appeared on any map is take off SCREAMING at the top of my lungs all the way across the map to go kill him. No matter what I am into I do this. No matter how far away they are. Drop everything, start screaming threats loudly in my apartment at Ma Chao, sprint to him. All on foot. Everytime.

I also do this to Jiang Wei...because he's such a fucking twerp. :P

booo, you should do that to Liu Shan

You kidding me? Forrest Gump's laser sword in the Orochi games and fencer movesets are great and I love having the only playable item on my team.
Not his fault his daddy dropped him on his head.
Fun fact, Liu Shan's first appearance was as an item you had to find and rescue as Zhou Yun. Ya know...so Liu Bei could spike him like a baby shaped football. Because Benevolence!

Zhao Yun" My lord I ran back alone to rescue your child and fought my way through the entire Wei army to do so."
Liu Bei *grabs baby*
Liu Bei "I could have more children but I could never replace a warrior such as you."
*SPIKES BABY LIKE FOOTBALL TO PUNCTUATE STATEMENT*

Zhao Yun :O
Liu Bei *does touchdown dance of benevolence*

Happy 15th birthday, Dynasty Warriors. Thanks for being my chewtoy in videogame form and helping me through the many stressful periods in my life.

Watching the trailer, it's sad how the character design became so overcomplicated and busy.

My favorite character, Lady Zhen.
Flute dancing to stomp everyone around her.

Such a great series, could be better with the combat but decent enough for fans who enjoy Chinese "history".

Daaamn, 15 years? I can still remember playing DW2 for the very first time.
I still need to pick up DW8, but I was hoping it would have a complete package together with XL and Empires. I'm also very interested to see what that mysterious Warriors game will be.

Haha awesome. I love me some Dynasty Warriors, but I prefer Samurai Warriors.

Glad they are so popular these days

I still remember playing the demo for the first one (which was the fighting game) on the ps1 and being interested in the Chinese supercharged history thing right away.

A DW thread not made by Zhuge!? :O

Been that long? I remember playing the DW2 demo on PS2 with one of my best friends as a kid every morning before middle school. We would do Team Musou attacks and see how fast we could complete the mission before the bus came. Now we got Pirate Warriors 3 coming in a few weeks and I can't wait!

He got banned. Not sure why though.

HAHAHAH THIS POST

Fun fact: Liu Shan somehow didn't turn out to be completely braindead. He was mild, meek, and smart, but who knows how well it would have been had he not been used as part of a receiver's victory dance.

Congratulations! I love the musou that you do!

Looking forward to English Dragon Quest Heroes.

Currently enjoying the hell outta Sengoku Basara 4 Sumeragi - not DW of course - but wouldn't exist without it.

Throughout the years, I think I have played 2 or 3 of them spread out among a few consoles. On the other hand, a friend of mine basically bought a PlayStation for DW, Madden and Gran Turismos back in the day.

So I stopped playing around when the games switched consoles to the PS3 (except strikeforce). Can anyone tell me if the empires series got deeper and closer to ROTK levels of strategy?

Dynasty Warriors 3 still the GOAT in terms of warriors games, and one of my favourite games of all time.

Would totally love a gif of liu beis face spazing out with the caption * benevolence intensifies*

Happy Birthday DW
Dw2 introduced me to the hack and slash genre. The feeling of mass killing tons of soldiers with combos was so...fun+the awesome soundtracks! Lets hope the future titles are just as epic. (-and more challenging)

Come on, Koei, this isn't the 15th anniversary of Dynasty Warriors...it's the 15th anniversary of Shin Sangoku Musou/Dynasty Warriors 2. :P Dynasty Warriors came out in 1997!

I love this series. My first and favorite was DW4. I remember going to Gamefaqs and looking up how to get Red Hare Saddle and how to get final weapons for everyone. Sigh we'll never get Zhou Tai's best alternate costume and moveset again. I still play it on my original Xbox.

Also it had the best artwork. I think I might hunt down the artbook for DW4

Fun fact: That fun fact isn't a fact, since the Liu Bei/Zhao Yun/Liu Shan incident never happened in actual history.

Fifteen years of me being stupid enough to pursue Lu Bu.

Fifteen years of Hu Lao Gate runs mostly ending badly because of this.

Happy anniversary! I remember got my PS2 just for DW4 as a kid(couldn't find any other DW at a store), and thought it was the greatest thing ever. Stuck with the series ever since...only game series to also make me read a giant novel just because I wanted more story(even if it wasn't 100% factual).

My first was DW3, I remember the hours spent playing that one demo with Huang Gai. It was such a huge feat for me to see "1,000 KOS!" in a game. It really captured something that no game had really done previously.

While I'd fallen off after DW4 and came back to Samurai Warriors, I practically skipped the series entires for most of the PS3 era. Once DW7 came out though, I hopped back in and reconnected with what I liked about these games: they're fun. They're creative, and you feel incredibly powerful just ripping through enemies. All the combat changes with DW8 and SW4 have really engaged me and kept me interested.

I know a lot of people don't like the Warriors series too much, but it does hold a special place for me in gaming. I've enjoyed the stories, gameplay, and just overall design of the games. The latest entries do more and more than their predecessors and I eagerly await DW9. With new spinoffs like Hyrule Warriors and Dragon Quest Heroes, I hope more people are exposed to the series and find something they like.

The last and only DW games I played were DW 4 and DW 5 Empires and I loved the shit out of them. Spent an ungodly amount of time with them.

How does DW 8 XL and Empires hold up in comparison? I'm interested.

Also it had the best artwork. I think I might hunt down the artbook for DW4

The DW 4 style characters are also my favourites. I'm not quite fond of the new designs in 8. And DW6 has to have the most atricious designs of the series.
