Happy Birthday Playstation! 15 Years Old Today!

So many favorites with this system. I remember just playing the demo disc and Tekken 2. And the "secret" back section when you hit the select button which revealed more vides/demos. It's the first console I owned which gave me this certain feeling of glee when I got it. This one is very dear to me. Too many games to mention.

That's a great logo.
It is, where from?

The age of consoles coming out in japan a year before anywhere else is long gone.

I loved my PS1 and I jumped straight to one from the Megadrive so the leap was cool, especially when I asked for resident evil 1 as my first game :D

I hated the PS1 for killing the Saturn. I hated the PS2 for killing the Dreamcast. Me & the PS3 are getting on pretty damn well.

Happy Birthday Playstation.

They grow up so fast. I have such strong memories from way back when. Friend had it but I was to young to afford one. I don't remember i I finally saved enough to buy one or if it was a present. My first was broken though. Only one controller worked, and only if you had two plugged in. It started deleting anything on any memory card you put into it. Got a new one though and it worked perfect. My first game was The Lost World. My best friend (still good friends) and I are a bit of Jurassic Park freaks, think XKCD, so it was the best game ever. Never finished it without cheating though.
Then came the day that would forever change my life.
The day my brothers friend brought. Suikoden into our house. I got chills and tears in my eye writing that sentence. Yes seriously. I loved that game.
Back then I didn't spend hours surfing the internet for news so one day my cousin came over and he had a bunch of pirated games with him. One of them was Suikoden 2. I didn't even know they were making one. He had help me modify my PS1 as well so I borrowed it. It is still the best game I have ever played.

And Cool Boarders 2. Man the memories.

I'm trying not to remember what I paid for importing that. :lol I was still recovering from the Saturn import.

Playstation (and Suikoden) rescued me from a live with no videogames after my dreadful experience with N64. Hail to you good friend.

So today would be a good time to play my first PS1 game ever? I'm kinda limited in choices though since all I have on my shelf is Persona 2.

My first games were doom and soviet strike, but i didn't touch them for a week because of the demo disc that came with the console :lol Tekken 2, crash bandicoot, wipeout 2097... I never tought that those kind of games were possible at the time.

I remember playing road rash with my pops (R.I.P.) on this... then I remember him playing it and making me watch him haha.

I would probably say both PS2 designs were the best ones. The fat with the blue ps2 logo over the black, looked so nice. And the slim was just perfect, easy to take with you anywhere.

I held dearly to my Nintendo loyalty through those dark days.

Same here and I regret it big time. So many great games I miss out on the PS1, wasn't till I bought a PS2 I got to have a chance to play those games.

Wow, it's that old? I only got my PS1 in 1999.

So many great games came out, the Resident Evil games, Metal Gear Solid, the Spyro Trilogy, Crash Trilogy and the best Kart racer ever (Crash Team Racing). Tomba, Legend of Dragoon, Brave Fencer Musashi, Syphon Filter, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night...just an all around great console with an awesome library. It's good to see it's legacy continue on with the PS2. The PS3 might even live up to it.

Shiiiiiet.... 15?

Happy birthday and all that Playstation! It feels like it was just a couple of years ago I was sitting with my friends and marvelling at the amazing graphics and stuff.

So many fond memories. Here's for another 15!

Good games except the former. I'd say that N64 had the edge with Ridge Racer 64 and RE2 though. No comparison to MGS or Tekken 3 though, but as a huge FPS and platformer fan, N64 had those rapped up.

I would say that the late 90s was much better than either the early 00s or these late 00s.

RR64 is fucking terrible.

I never had a PS1 which I regret, I'd spent £400 on the Saturn console at release (people complain at prices these days) and couldn't afford another console. I still wuved my Saturn though.

Happy birthday Playstation! :)

I remember when a friend got his Playstation 1 for Christmas. I played a bit of Destruction Derby and Rayman at his place. Those were fun times :) I bought my own Playstation 1 maybe 1-2 years (i think?) after it was released.

A lot of my best gaming memories happened on the PS1. I bought one in 1996 at the tail end of Grade 8. It was the first system I actually had the disposable income to buy games for, and I eventually accumulated over 50 titles for it. The PS1 also occupied the period of my life where I had the most free time to put towards gaming.

Never having an SNES while it was current, I discovered JRPGS on the PS1. For awhile I played rpgs almost exclusively, and there was no shortage of great titles to pick up on the system. Final Fantasy Tactics, Suikoden II, and Valkyrie Profile are still some of my favourite games. Beyond Rpgs, I have fond memories of Castlevania: SOTN, Tekken 2/3, Gran Turismo 1/2, Metal Gear Solid, Crash 1-3, and plenty more. Awesome system.

My favourite VG. Bought it Oct 95, played the demo disk for weeks. The first game that I beat was Philosoma and Kileak: The DNA Imperative :lol .

Xenogears, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Winning Eleven, Wipeout, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, DDR, Beatmania, Soul Reaver, Tekken, Parappa, Alundra, Crash Bandicoot and the list goes on FOREVER. Also the Squaresoft and the RPG golden age.

Good times.

Wow, this just made me feel really old.

I remember my brother bought a PSX at launch, which I wholeheartedly ignored it because it wasn't Nintendo. That lasted for about a week, and then I gave in. So glad I did. The Playstation brand has brought me more gaming joy than any other.

Happy birthday Playstation! :D

Damn, time sure flyes. I remember when i first played Winning eleven with my friends (and we still do). When i get home im gonna turn on that biatch for the nostalgia :D

I first saw a PlayStation in the video game room at the first Katsucon in early 1995. They only had a couple of games there, but it was enough to hook a friend and I. He was completely addicted to Twinbee Puzzle but wasn't able to track down a copy until years later. I, however, was completely blown away by Ridge Racer, and when there was a major price drop in May 1996 I broke down and got my first video game system since the Atari 5200. That summer, I basically did nothing but Ridge Racer for hours on end. Then I'd attempt to go driving and have to resist the urge to practice impromptu drift racing or bouncing off the other cars. It was awesome.

Without realizing it I've been celebrating the PlayStation anniversary this week by playing Symphony of the Night for the Nth time on the PS3. Man, I love that game.

In honor of the occasion, I'd like to congratulate the proud father as well as the PlayStation itself:

Awwwww, yeah.

PS2 turning 10 next year will make me feel a lot older than the PS1 turning 15. I bought my PS2 in my first year of University, during Dec 2001 (the day after FFX was released). I can't believe that was 8 years ago...

my story is pretty much the same.

i gave up on my SNES after i got to play Wipeout at a German videogame shop... that was it for me.

I was a huge nintendo fanboy before the Ps1 release. But the Ps1 somehow changed my whole taste in gaming. And I like it.

Ps1 is one of the best consoles ever.

Hmm I really should break out my trusty old PS1 and play something on the damn thing, if it still works. :P

Wow! I remember first reading about the PlayStation in a November '94 issue of gamepro( I was 10 at the time). They had screen shots of the t-rex demo and some fight games, iirc.
I believe Tekken was the first game I played on it at a kiosk and I wanted one since.

I didn't get one until May '98 and I played that demo disc to death haha. The first game [full] game I played on it was Dead or Alive( was a rental). I rented quite a few games during that summer like Air Combat, Pandemonium, Descent Maximum, Tomb Raider and Akuji the Heartless. My friend lend me Final Fantasy VII and Die Hard Trilogy.

PS2 was the first console I bought early in its life(May 2001) and it has been my primary console this decade.

Awesome, can't believe its been 15 years. Many of the games on the first system are what really got me into gaming, and haven't stopped since. Has been my consoles of choice to go alongside my PC for years.

<3

Man, my import PS1 cost me so much goddamn money. I also :lol @ myself for thinking Tekken looked remotely good. Fuuuu-

Then again, so many good games, Sony gave me my break in to the industry and has given me thousands of hours of gaming pleasure.

So, happy birthday PlayStation! Here's to many more.
