Haptic, Adaptive Triggers or Both?

They're obviously best when combined and will likely really come into their own when the tech is used with PSVR 2.

And, just as I was replying they released this.

Oh god, Kena: Bridge of Spirits is out next month. I completely forgot about that!!

Or in Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 3. Hopefully they will copy a simpler name at the same time.
I think it's better on a next gen because it would mean all games would support. Only a few people buy Elite controllers, so most devs ignore them.

The kindafunny episode does very much imply they are prototyping a controller with some similar features. It wasn't just a factual statement from Phil that the dualsense has some features imo.
Well, they did have the patent too regarding adaptive triggers I think. I am pretty sure there is some Xbox controller prototype with gyro too.

If they want to make there system more accessible they will add gyro

Sounds like the people saying the duel sense features are Trash either haven't used the dual sense or are fanboys... not surprised tho

Both are useful and immersive when implemented properly. Returnal is a perfect showpiece for both haptics and adaptive triggers that has an actual gameplay impact.

The rumble triggers are kinda cool in forza. To be honest I don't really care about haptics outside of VR. The resistance triggers will all eventually break, so I don't want that either.

Both are amazing features that make the PS5 feel like a generational jump. Like it's hard to go back to PS4 games now because of the lack of these features.

Xbox needs it, but they're stuck in a bad position because they can't force it to be a standard.

So I either need to:

1) Use non-rechargeable batteries, having a continuous expense and producing more trash. Also, if my last batteries die and I have no replacement, I need to get some before I can play again. Also battery leakage could destroy the controller and be harmful to me or other family members.

2) Use rechargeable AA batteries, which I need to buy separately and suffer from the same issues as an internal battery (although cheaper to replace once they die)

3) Use an additional MS product (not for free, clearly) with the same drawbacks of an internal battery.

All three solutions multiplied by the amount of controllers I have.....

Yeah.. no. I'm still preferring internal batteries. If in the future I need to replace the battery, I can easily find a cheap replacement for 10-15 bucks.

PS: We will continue to disagree on this, so any further reply is useless.
1)I use ikea batteries. Xbox one controller lasts over 40 hours... dualsense lasts 6-8. 10 batteries are 2usd here and 10 batteries last me a long time. I throw them in a proper waste and to be honest... someone using 10 batteries is no matter in a grand scheme.
2)I did that for years. You just need 4 batteries for 1 controller and swap between controller and charger. Still better and faster than having to stop playing to charge controller or play wired.
3)Additional MS product is a cost, of course but with this, we have a controller that takes AA batteries or act as your beloved internal battery.
The cost is not that bad compared to having to throw away controller or buy a used dirty fucked up controller in 15 years that lasts for 2 hours... just to paly your retro system and games.

I do not want to end in infinite disagreeing debate on this stupid topic but Imagine that controller could be 10 usd cheaper. From then you get play'n'charge kit or buy batteries. Everyone is happy.

As it is now, dualsense is hard to open and there is no way in hell I will be able to find good condition batteries for it years from now. It's not a huge issue of course but look at 360 vs ps3 now.
ps3 controllers from it's early days already hold 50% of charge or less.

I agree that AA batteries are a waste (even if small) but all the internal batteries use power to charge (fuel) and will end in a landfill even harder to recycle as workers will have to separate plastic, battery, etc

Edit: what will most likely happen it's ps6 will play all PS5 games and we won't care for old dualsense controllers :p

Both are pretty cool. They only downside is that the DualSense is fucking LOUD. All that clicking and clacking.

And I guess battery life. At least it's better than the DS4 (so far).

I think this is really cool and I wish Nintendo never dropped the analog triggers and digital click of the Gamecube. This seems like an interation of that.

IF the Wii, Wiiu and the Switch had analogs with a click or haptics like these I think everyone would be happy.

I know right, those fanboys who cant accept other people opinions, where they think they are?! In a videogame forum where people exchange opinions?! Pfff.

I just like hairlock triggers to be honest and full button remapping so I can swap jump to a bumper button etc - the Elite 2 is ok but I'm going to sell and revert to the regular pad.

I've not used my DS for a PS5 game yet but not keen on the triggers (used on Astrobot on my bro's PS). Will deactivate on mine.

Neither, put something actually useful like back buttons instead of gimmicks that make your controller easy to break.
Seems to me that, despite being more difficult to disassemble, the most failure prone part of the Dual Sense is the analogs and they're the same across all three consoles..

Yeah but that's nothing new, we had shitty sticks in forever.

Resistance in the trigger is something new, so now you have more things that can broke easily.

None. Give me triggers with zero travel, like the Wii U pro controller. I don't play racing games and want that instant response.

that's the beuty. Devs can "lock" ps5 triggers in any point so it feels shorter.
I also like the tension when using a bow in astro playroom

From my knowledge, the worm gears in the Dual Sense triggers are more durable than they're being credited. Either way, there hasn't been any outcry to warrant concern - above the usual percentile failure rate anyway..

Worm gears??

I have my PS5 for 3 months now and I can tell you that this is more than a gimmick. It came to a point for me where I´m disappointed if a new game does not feature haptics and full Duals Sense Support.

It helps me to immerse myself in the game. Rumble effects were always nice and this is the next-gen version of that. Once you get used to it, you don´t want to miss it anymore.

Only downside is battery life....
I think there is a problem with PS5 showing the correct percentage. Supposedly it was fixed in the last update but I still find that I can play for 3 or 4 more hours with my controller after I get low battery PS5 notification. I hope they fix it soon.

for real, I'm happy to xbox fans that xbox is up for taking on good ideas. I think they should go full haptic, if they can. Maybe they'll aim for a different price point though, to gel with their value narrative... or maybe they'll only put them in 'elite' controllers.. or a new brand called 'hyperelites' or something

*thinking* would be cool if PS could make dualsense ps4-compatible for selected patched games, like they made GT7 crossgen at the last moment, to maximise their potential customers during covid... i'd hit that!

Neither. I don't even like analogue triggers.

When I play a racing games, I'm either full gas or full brake :messenger_sunglasses:

Fucking hate adaptive triggers, don't want or need that in my Xbox controllers. Haptics on the other hand they should definitely copy. Way better than old rumble motors.

I'll take the haptics but I'm suffering froma little PTSD when my R2 trigger snapped playing Miles Morales. Deffo feels like Sony cheaped out on the design and didnt test the controller properly. Hopefully future iterations are re enforced.

TBF, I purchased a new controller and it has been fine but I am deffo over cautious with the thing.

I think they feel pretty good in Astro and Returnal, quite fun in ratchet. I dunno...I'm kinda Meh on the triggers. All in for haptic feedback though.
