Harada ponders "Xenosaga HD Collection"

Did my part, RT'd and commented. It would be a day one for me if it comes out on PC/Steam. Volvo, Namco, pls.
That kind of how I feel.

I would be really excited about this if they could come to the PC and I could have them on Steam. I'd even buy a few extra copies to support it. It would be so exciting to have Namco Bandai put Japanese RPGs on Steam.

But if it's only for the PlayStation or something, it would be a little less exciting.

I'm excited for this in hopes that I can more Namco games and Japanese RPGs on Steam. I've always dreamed of having more Namco games on Steam like Tales and Klonoa. Those would be one of my dreams come true. I've always dreamed of having them so so much.

And just having more Japanese RPGs on Steam would be great.

As much as i would love a Vita version, i would say the games are too big for that. first game a on DL DVD and the others on two dvds each. Thats like 20GB+ of data assuming no extra compression. Splitting them up seems like a bad idea as well.

They can split up the games ala FFX/X-2 or just do a digital release for each with the price of one.

You'd think there is good amount of fans out there to warrant this, hell this series even has a 12 episode anime!

xenosaga sales weren't exactly good. i'd say on par with the mid-tier jrpg for the ps2 era but i think xenosaga costed much more than a normal jrpg

In terms of story, I like the Xenosaga story better. In terms of gameplay, I Xenoblade more.

Turn based combat can be fun. But I didn't find it really fun in Xenosaga.

Hmm. I'm actual more eager if rpg games could have Xenogears style gameplay. I had fun with its combo type of attacks. Either that or Legend of Legaia 3.

Probably because Japan has an employment system instead of a slavery system. Just a hunch. :)

Because Square were the ones that screwed them in the first place and they didn't like how Square didn't care about Xenogears when compared to the Final Fantasy they were working on at the same time(8)? There's a reason why disc 2 of Gears was terrible compared to disc 1, Square just did not care to see the complete game finished and they wanted a rush job for the 2nd half.

Wasn't Xenogears done before Monolith existed, and then those head people left on their own to form Monolith and create saga? It's not like SE could forbid individual people from leaving.

If I was SE I would bend over to keep that talent but I guess I'm biased by my love for Xenogears.

Heh, there's quite the difference between the ps2 and ds versions :P. You got the major parts of the story and that was it, they left out quite a bit of character development though which was a huge part of the series.

Yeah I know what I missed out on. But it was amazing what they did on the DS with the two games.

I would buy a copy. It wouldn't need to be a fancy port, just a straight remaster of the trilogy would be fine with me, just HD assets for the character portraits and menus. No need for any fancy bells and whistles. I doubt there are HD assets for the cut scenes, though.

Would be fine with me. Look at the ToS HD collection. All it got was a resolution bump. Surely that can't cost that much to do. I was fine with it. Even if they just upscaled and 16x9'd the prerecorded cutscenes.

Would buy it on PC.
That's what I'm excited for. I always want more Japanese RPGs on the PC.

If it were on the PlayStation Network, I might buy it eventually.

But if it were on Steam, I would pre-order it. And buy several copies, even. I even periodically buy some of my favourite games on Steam again when I have the money, just to support them. Especially when they go on sale.

So I would do that with Xenosaga, too. Because it's always been one of my biggest dreams in video games to have all my favourite games on Steam. And Tales is my most favourite RPG series of all time. Having my favourite RPG series of all time on my favourite platform of all time would be such a dream come true, I would buy the games over and over again just to support them. And I feel like having Xenosaga on Steam would be one step closer to my dream come true of having Tales and Klonoa games on Steam.

I've bought Recettear more than 50 times on Steam. And I have several copies of ever Tales game. So I'm sure I would buy lots and lots of copies of any Tales game if they ever came to Steam.

If Xenosaga ever came to Steam. I'm sure I would buy it at least 5 times. Maybe over a dozen.

nah dude. if you're gonna pay at least get a good graphic upgrade and more important fix Xenosaga II battle system

otherwise you can just emulate it

The problem I see with that one is that it was created in 2013... And the tweet by Harada already got over 680 RTs in the 6 hours since it was posted. If anything, at least he's getting the message. It's a shame he didn't post it in Japanese, I bet a lot of users would've RT'd it.

They shouldn't rule out Kickstarter, I'm pretty sure they would be surprised.

Yeah, at least then you can see how many fans are out there that would want this, its kinda hard to do now with just a petition that many fans won't sign. Having a kickstarter with real money involved, even before the remaster being started on, is a better idea. I don't kickstart myself, but I would for this project.

I beat Xenosaga Episode 1. It was alright. Kinda hyped up, I'd say. Rose-tinted glasses and all that. I played Xenosaga Episode 2 for like an hour and hated it, primarily its battle system. It was absolutely terrible and confusing. I haven't played Xenosaga Episode 3, but I've heard it makes up for 2's shortcomings.

I'd like to revisit the series, so I'd buy the HD collection.

I remember being hyped beyond all get out for Xenosaga. I loved it when it came out.

Xenosaga Episode 2 was so bad, I didn't even bother with Episode 3.

I'm in the same case.
I could double dip, triple dip, (heck even dip a eighth time in the case of MGS) for a Japanese game I liked on console.
My point would be to have all my library on a platform agnostic ecosystem.

Monolithsoft weren't owned by Nintendo back then so why would it be weird?

Because they are owned by them now. They can do the HD Collection without Monolithsoft, but if they asked Monolithsoft to make the HD Collection for them, it's essentially asking a Nintendo first-party to develop a game on a non-Nintendo console.

Looks like some people don't realise that Monolithsoft existed before being owned by Nintendo. Still don't understand why SE let them leave like that. Xenogears is one of the greatest jrpgs in gaming. Their best work too.

Square-Enix didn't let Monolithsoft break away from Square or anything like that. Monolithsoft didn't exist until Xenosaga after X amount of people who used to work for Square started the company with backing from Namco-Bandai.

I feel this way, too.

There are lots of things that I like about PC gaming and why I'm a PC gamer.

But I think the most important reason is that I like the idea of games being on an open platform that will hopefully stay for a long time in the future. It seems like my Steam library will work many years from now. And that new versions of Windows won't be so different from from now, so the games will still work. But on consoles, I don't know how if backwards compatibility will happen. And console emulators are getting harder and harder to make. And a lot of people don't support console emulators. And with emulators you can't keep buying and supporting older games like you can with Steam.

It feels like a really safe and important place for games to be.

Exactly !
Not only that, it's a library you can share with various devices:
PC, small form factor console like box, tablet... maybe phone or gaming handheld in the near future !

Give it to me on PS4 :D

Lol at people demanding pc release, you will never get it.

Why not ? Also, why do you feel the need to be so cold at saying it ? It's not like more and more Japanese games are coming to PC. I mean at this rate, no one is going to get it. The more people ask for it, the more people will get it. I don't really see your point, really.

I'd buy it on PC so it's preserved forever.
This is how I feel.

There are lots of reasons to be a PC gamer. But for me the most important reason is that it's a safe spot. It's not where things are stuck in being first party. And PC is someplace that backwards compatibility will always exist. And you will always have lots of options.

The whole point of emulators is to preserve games. Well, that's exactly what putting games on the PC does.

I don't think that Steam will go away any time soon.
And having it there seems like it will be good for its popularity and preserving it.

If a game is on the PC, people will be able to buy and play it for years to come.

I would like to see Xenosaga collection happen, it would be a day 1 purchase. I really regret selling my Xenosaga 1 copy back in the day, it´s interesting that the European version of Xenosaga 2 shipped with a "movie" of the first one. Even a eshop release of a localized Xeno1+2 NDS would be appreciated.

too bad I don´t use twitter

Also, even if this doesn't happen, its still a big deal for Xenosaga fans. This is the first time Namco even mentioned an HD collection being thought about.

... isn't mobile supposed to be very popular in Japan?

Is that just iOS phones? Or does that also mean things like tablets and Android and Windows ones too?

Because lots of popular tablets like the Surface Pro 3 would probably be able to play Xenosaga. And putting more games on the PC would probably help sell to the mobile audience if Windows tablets are popular in Japan.

So that seems like a good reason for more Japanese developers and publishers to put more games on the PC.
