Harada Wants Fan Feedback on a New Character Design for Tekken 7

While there are some things I like about the design he really looks more like the guy to inherit Ezio's Soul Calibur 5 moveset in that series, but that's been well covered in here so moving on I guess I'd drop the weaponry and tweak the cloak so the bird like fastener thing was toned down.

I wish Tekken had more of a legit military force presence in its roster. Dragunov is pretty much the only military-trained fighter. I also want a Brazilian Juijitsu fighter.

Lars is military too, just more of a super sentai style. ;)

I would love if they'd add Tougou to the game. He's military, and I really dig his design.

Incase you didn't know or can't tell. The lead character designer for Tekken is female. Her name is Hiromi Sagara. I believe she also works on Soul Calibur which is why it seems similar.

He looks like an Assassin's Creed, or even a Soul Calibur character.

For Tekken though? No. I mean maybe if they removed the weapons it could work. But as it is now? No.

Also, if they really have to make him have a hood and cloak, at least make his silhouette stand out more.

Fan feedback for Tekken characters sounds like a horrible idea.

Tekken's so awesome because it's so fucking weird. I don't want characters by committee. Especially from game players...

Cool, Altair is gonna be in Tekken 7? Makes sense. Ezio was in Soul Calibur V Tekken shouldn't miss out on the Assiassin lovin'.

It's the hood/cloak that makes him look all assassiny. I guess Ubisoft ruined hoods on characters. :(

Take it away and he looks less like an Ubisoft Assassin.

yeah, this already looks much better

It still looks fairly AC to me. The side "cape", the belt, the way the shirt hangs, it all screams Ezio.

The idea of an Arab character is cool.

the scarf could work if he took it off after his intro.
however if they intend for him to fight while wearing it, he should probably wear it in "luthma" style, where you wrap it around your face like:

this would make him look less Assassin Creedy, and the style they have in the picture is not stable and would fall off during a fight.

Is this her stuff too?

I'm really digging the T7 designs so far. The new male character in the OP needs some tweaks, but the idea is good, and Lars and Kazumi look pretty awesome.

I know some Tekken costumes are impractical to wear to a fight, but I don't understand this costume. Is he coming out of a coronation or something or is he fighter-ready with all those knives and half-gloves? Because his vest is too tight, his harem pants are fine just don't make them in that dress slack fabric, and his shoes were made for dining and cocktails.

Both of those are guest designs I believe. Kasumi is being done by the Bayonetta lead artist though who is also female.

Sagara has designed every new character though since Tekken 5 DR I believe. So Lili, Dragunov, Armor King, Miguel, Alisa, Lars, Zafina, Bob, Leo, Jaycee, Jun, Kunimitsu, Angel, & Ogre.

Unfortunatly her style has lead to a lot of; as seen in this thread, "Not Tekken Like" or "Doesn't look like Tekken" comments.

it's stealth-casual atire.

Looks good, but more suitable for SoulCalibur than Tekken IMO.

Overdesigned.

Agreed, looks like a new character in SoulCalibur. Take away the weapons and maybe add a couple of sashes?

The first thing I thought of was Siba, an unused Virtua Fighter character that later made it into Fighters Megamix.

I find this to be a sleek character design. Nice and simple, yet authentic. The one Harada posted just doesn't mesh together well.

I'm probably in the minority here but I don't like devs asking random fans to design their games (or in this case characters) for them. Too many cooks spoil the broth

Yup, Harada's gotta be careful with this whole feedback thing. At the same time he seems to be sensitive to what Arab fans themselves think, which is important.

He shouldn't show more skin in his default outfit ,but you can customize him as you like.

I honestly think its perfect as its.Its highly stylized yet very characteristic of people living in the arabian peninsula and the surrounding area.

They pretty much nailed it.Maybe less swords and daggers would be better.

This doesn't seem like a truly crowd-designed affair, or even a "vote among these designs" deal. I really appreciate seeing a developer checking to see whether their designs are appropriate — a lot of offensive designs end up in final products, and hardly any were intentional.

Well, if she gave us Miguel, Lars, Tougou and Slim Bob, then she's a-okay in my book. Most of my favorite characters are more recent inductions (or reintroductions) to the series anyway.

I'm excited to see what she comes up with next.

Looks pretty damn good, though I'm getting the same Ezio vibes as everyone else (perhaps some of the Istanbul assassins would be a closer match, for obvious reasons :P).

Feedback is still just feedback. I'm sure some intern will just run through the various comments and summarize the general opinions to the actual character designer in a ten to thirty minute meeting.

The dude looks like he took a wrong turn on the way to Assassin's Creed.

And I'm completely fine with that. Come on Harada/Namco. You already did a cross-over once, do it again with a non Soul Calibur series.

These are some of the best designs in the series.

Only lars and maybe Alisa are too busy.
But Lars and Alisa are both great too. Busy can be good.

I think pretty much every new character revealed in Tekken 6 are solid additions to the series. (Even Bob, who as far as "fat" characters go, is pretty cool. And we eventually got the amazing Slim Bob.)

I think people need to remember that this is the series, than even in the early years, had genetically modified kangaroos, mechanical samurai and love lorn grizzly bears.
