Hardest final boss in any game you've played?

I'm talking about the final storyline boss in any game you've played, and on NORMAL (if it has different settings) difficulty. Not optional superbosses, not a final boss you played on the EatMyFaceOff difficulty setting.

For me, it's probably Deus from Xenogears. I can remember trying at least 15-20 times to beat him and failing miserably. I eventually gave up for 6 months, moved on to other games, then came back a time later and finally beat him. To this day, this is the only final boss in any game I've ever played (that I can remember) where I gave up at the end out of frustration and moved on to something else.

How about you guys?

The final boss in Shinobi (PS2) was my most difficult fight. It took me awhile to get the full tate going, and my hands were really sore afterwards.

The super vampire (Antideluvian maybe or whatever) at the end of Vampire: The Masquarade; Redemption. Fuck that shit.

If you remember, how long did this game end up being?
I didn't stick with it to the end.
Was there anything really awesome that I missed later on?

Does World of Warcraft count? If so, The Four Horsemen in Naxxramas, level 60. It only took us 4 days to beat them but the strategy behind it was fairly complicated. We even had a soul-crushing wipe with one horseman left due to a hunter(!) pulling aggro IIRC :lol

Our guild leader had a pretty hilarious meltdown over vent. I wish someone recorded that :lol

Megaman 1.

I've had it for more than 15 years and still haven't beaten that Wiley machine.

I had to cheat on Megaman 3 to finish the initial Robot Masters only to find out that there were more.

Dural from VF series. ugh

Despite being aimed at a younger audience with the Disney worlds and teeny bopper characters, the Kingdom Hearts games have absolutely insane secret bosses.

Also False King in Demon's Souls. He can actually de-level you, at that point in the game costing you souls that took 1 hour or 2 to collect.

For me, it was the final boss in Castlevania: Circle of the Moon.
I was fighting him wrong. I hadn't used that move during the entire game.
I say that move, because I don't want to spoil anything for those who may not have played it yet.

If MMOs count, Absolute Virtue in FFXI and pre-nurf Cthun in WoW.

Also, Ares in GoW was painful. First play I remember turning down the difficulty so I could just get the game over with.

Target Earth on Genesis. You can put in an invincibility code and still be killed by the miniboss before the final boss, even.

If that doesn't count, than the last guy on Wonderboy in Monster World. First part easy, second part ridiculously hard.

The last stage was 8-b and it only took me about 8 hours to get there (i replayed several stages). There were several unlockable stages and characters to play as. So yeah, you did miss out on some awesome stuff.

The first game that comes to mind is Arc the Lad 2. I beat it woefully under leveled, but I didn't really feel like grinding. He had this one move that killed everyone in my party except for 1 guy(Tosh). He was also the only one who could hurt him. Did a measly 40-50 points of damage out of his 9999HP. It took forever, but eventually I beat him. All the other characters were huddled at the bottom corners of the screen(only places the spell didn't reach) and would heal tosh. What a pain.

Shinobi GG on the GameGear - you play through 4 challenging levels with no save system and rescue all your ninja buds, only to be confronted with a huge final level 'Neo City' full of insanely tricky enemies and pitfalls during which you have to face all the previous bosses again before finally facing the evil Black Shinobi - now let me tell you, as a 6 year old this game pissed me off so damn much. It was such an effort even getting to Neo City in one sitting, but then having to complete the whole damn level and beat the final boss? Seemed impossible to me at the time, but eventually I managed it and now going back to the game the whole final level and boss encounter seems as easy as anything for me because of all those months spent trying to ace that damn game, it's ingrained in my memory.

Also, fucking Gill from 3rd Strike. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.

four days?

Seth in Street Fighter IV. But I would say more cheap, than hard. But his cheapness makes it really hard, so yeah-- plus the fact that the cheapness makes you not want to beat him. Or fight him, ever, for that matter. I do want to add that I'm not super great at fighting games, but I know I've seen many complain about this one.

The King Of Fighters 2001 : The lovable IGNIZ

The False King in Demon's Souls ain't bad if you use the cheap arrow trick. I took him down legit the first time but after losing 3 SL I said fuck it and I've been a bitch the past two times.

the final boss in Metroid Prime. I think more people had problems with the Prime 2 final boss, but for some reason the boss from 1 really did me in. That was a struggle.

The boss at the end of Tales of Destiny was really hard also.

Seth is indeed a cheap bastard, but unlike Gill from 3rd Strike he can also be taken down cheaply - I found the best and most consistant way to deal with Seth is to jump in, high kick, land & sweep before jumping back out.

The final race in Midnight Club 2 was incredibly hard for me to beat.

And I remember having a lot of trouble beating Mission 20 Virgil in Devil May Cry 3 on Hard (original NTSC release, not the Special Edition).

It's a tough call, but I'd probably have to give the nod to Jaquio in the original Ninja Gaiden because of the fact that you get sent allllllllll the way back to the start of the very difficult final level if you lose. Learning a tough pattern isn't a big deal when you respawn right at a boss, but when you have an entire stage of instant deaths and enemy pattern hell to chisel your health down each time it's another matter.

Fuck this guy. I'm had to level grind for months on end to be able to beat him, at one point, I hadn't showered for 2 weeks and was simply level grinding and sleeping.
Oh shit, no kidding!!! Even after much level grinding, I had to get one of my friends to beat him for me and even than it was a close battle.

AV's pretty much the new optional superboss champ, but in terms of final bosses I wonder what the Shadow Lord fight was like at 50-cap with 2003 gear and tactics.

Honorable mention I guess? 2 weeks of level grinding in that game is :lol

The Final Boss at the end of Rygar (the original). Not sure if I was too young at the time to figure out how to beat him but I never did, even though I tried countless times.

I actually don't like to discuss it as I still feel a lack of closure and deep sorrow.

I finally caved and used a Game Genie just to beat him. I can't imagine how long it took to grind to actually beat him fairly, not to mention that last dungeon is a bitch.

If it's allowed by the OP's rules, the Dark Demon in Demon's Crest.

If not, the Spider Gremlin in Gremlins 2 on the Game Boy.

Seth.

Seth has completely ruined my desire to play SF IV ever again. I can't beat the dude on EASY, friggin easy, man I'm so demoralized and ashamed. I used to be good at street fighter back in the day. Goes to show I've lost coordination and reflexes. Feels bad man.

False King anit shit if you melee him period. He didn't even touch me once.

The end of Kingdom Hearts 2 when I finally beat the game the glitch that made it so I couldnt save it after I did and from then on can never ever really have a completed save file....

thats the hardest final boss I've ever encountered.
