Harmonix is bringing back instrument-based music games to new consoles

If they release one game with one set of instruments (or preferably even JUST the guitar, no drums) then I'm down.

Rock Band 4, let's go.

Normally I wouldn't, but that's what they're doing with Dance Central. That said, because a lot of the rights issues and letting them expire, I wouldn't expect EVERYTHING to make it over.

Ah. Hadn't heard the DC stuff was going to carry over to now gen.

I guess there might be hope after all then :D

I just hope you can transfer songs over; I know plenty of people with a load of DLC songs on an older system.

Also, was kind of hoping they'd wait a generation, but it does seem there's demand again. Hopefully Activision doesn't single-handedly cram the market again...

Oh and for those that didn't know there's a pretty robust custom community out there, and they're adding new songs to RB3 every friday.

Pretty simple to get them, no modding, etc.

If they can get a $40 guitar on the market, with a subscription service that includes the Rock Band catalog, they can fully relaunch this phenomenon.

Unless it supports real guitars/instruments I think I rather have a next-gen Rocksmith.

A learning tool that helps me improve my guitar skills while having some game features is way more interesting to me than a pure arcade game. Even if Rock Band is a fun game.

As much as I loved this game, I'm out. I have no desire to sink money into plastic instruments and DLC songs ever again. And I was the guy F5ing their website every week for the song announcements.

Rock Band 3 pretty much supports real instruments now--you've been able to use your own MIDI keyboards and drums for quite some time. The only questionable one is the guitar support, which I believe requires the RB3 Squier Strat controller (which also happens to be a real guitar). I don't think you can just plug in a MIDI guitar into the MIDI breakout box and have it work, unfortunately.

Also, if they DO bring back Rock Band, I have a request: please, for the love of god, don't make the entire game metal. My biggest pet peeve with Rock Band Network is that after a while, everyone but metal bands fled the service, which basically meant RBN was useless to me. It's one of my great disappointments from last gen, especially since I bought an extra set of drums and a copy of RB3 for 360 just to take advantage of RBN (something that wasn't available on PS3, where I'd bought all my Rock Band gear).

probably Def Jam Rapstar, which is the game I'm referring to as well. Eventually, the publisher ran into legal trouble with it, got sued by EMI or something, and shut down. So all the online features and DLC are no longer accessible now :/

But man, I at least just want that same basic game, with a bigger publisher behind it that can negotiate better music deals and get a larger tracklisting.

This. I like Rapstar but it's missing a lot of big artists, and had a fairly small library. Harmonix could do a rap game justice and give it a huge library with full album DLC.

I just gave all of my Rock Band instruments to Goodwill about 2 weeks ago before we moved, hit up several friends who have PS3s to try and give them to someone I knew, and nobody wanted them.

I dunno when will be the time for that to come back.

I just bought some drums for rock band at a good will for 7 bucks. They work perfectly! I've been wanting a set for a while but they're going for $300!

I'd bite. There's been enough of time since my last "Guitar Hero" experience that I've sort of been pining for it again.

It'd be largely about the music, though. I haven't liked mainstream music for a lot of years. Guitar Hero scratched my 90s/early 2000s itch. I don't know that I'd enjoy a music game with modern music. Probably not. Maybe the younger generation would, though.

If I don't have to buy a new guitar for every damn game I'm down. Make one peripheral that works across them all and syncs with the console seemlessly.
