Rowling should write an 8th book were 10 year old Harry wakes up in the cupboard under the stairs, realizes that everything was a dream and continues to get beaten up by Dudley for the rest of his shitty life.

Bro karma for his dad's past

On Prisoner of Azkaban during my marathon... my opinion pretty much still stands. Outstanding filmmaking qualities and tons of detail, but not my favorite story. It's a good "chill" movie though, in that it's more of a relaxed story and you get to see a lot of the beauty of the environments. Since the story is very much withheld until the third act it doesn't try to hurry along-- this is a quality that I also adored in Deathly Hallows Part 1.

Just finished my marathon. Dobby's scene in the end hit me harder than the first viewing.

Going through the Maximum Movie Mode focus points right now. God, I love that feature.

More I watch Azkaban, the more things I dislike about the visual changes from the first two. Pretty much the only visual change I like is the new hogwarts.

-Leaky Cauldron (serisouly, Why do that to Tom?)
-Hogsmead
-more casual clothing
-That awful werewolf (seriously, Twilight can do better cgi werewolf's)

MMM on Part 1 is fucking great. Very in-depth and well put together.

Just went through that. Went back to Half-Blood Prince to check its own focus points. Amazing stuff.

And lol at having a feature for Ron and Lavender kissing, as well as Ginny and Harry kissing.

So about 10 days ago, I set out on watching every Harry Potter movie for the first time. I never read the books. I had little idea of what the series was about. I just finished watching The Deathly Hallows Part 1, and all I have to say is...

I can't imagine what my hype levels would be like if I had only watched the movies. I feel like I wouldn't be as attached to the characters as I am now, having read the books a few times over. The movies just dont do it for me. It's great entertainment and is a nice visual piece to go with what I imagined, but emotionally I don't think its there for me.

Yeah it's weird for me too because none of my friends have read them, and they're all super excited. I'm like wtf, I can't imagine these being nearly as good if I wasn't already invested. My friends are stupid.

I've yet to buy a Potter film, just waiting for the amazing box set that is surely to come this winter.

I have two versions (DVD and Blu-ray), but if they release a box, that is complete with extended editions, I will buy that and resell everything else probably.

Just saw it, and it's good. I almost always dislike the HP movies the first time I see them because there's too much book comparison going on in my head, but this one's very satisfying overall. Lots of action, good pace, some well done emotional scenes, the works.

Some nitpicking:

I don't understand why these directors don't really get symbolism. We've seen many instances in past films where certain set pieces or character traits were changed to supposedly better suit the film adaptation. In this one, the final fight between Voldemort and Harry is changed to take place outside the castle, with just the two of them, and it serves no purpose at all. It's so much more fitting to let it end inside the Great Hall, with everyone there to see it. Now the scene just kind of drizzles out, and we don't get the satisfaction of it all ending in the (metaphorical) centre of Hogwarts. Also, it's a shame the Dumbledore arc was abandoned completely. The doubt about his motives was one of the highlights of book 7 for me.

I completely agree. I am all for changing things to make them fit the medium better. Unfortunately, here I thought almost all the changes made it worse. The one you mentioned is an example of that.
just like Snape's death and Neville's badass killing of Nagini, which was a big letdown in the film. Taking out the sword and killing the snake should be one swift motion or at least scene. When he is knocked back despite the sword, there is no oomph left at all. You're supposed to think. WOW, Neville got the sword, WOWOW he killed the snake. Nevile is the man!

as an Englishman living in the States.. I can't wait till this franchise is over and everyone forgets about it!

You shouldn't. It brought your country a lot of money with tourists alone. Also, I doubt very much it'll be forgotten. It's not twilight.

FUCK there are tickets available for tomorrow, I didn't expect this... I already have tickets for Monday with a friend.

DO I GO ALONE TOMORROW GAF?

it was alright. 3d sucked donkey balls, as expected. almost ruined the whole experience. holy shit was the picture dark. what a shame. also, i've seen tron legacy in 3d on the same screen and there wasn't any crosstalk. but for some reason there was TONS in this movie. very distracting.

Frankly, I was pleasantly surprised by the 3D in my cinema. Of all the films I have had to sit through that had 3D digitally added, it was certainly the best quality. The picture at least had a nice depth and there were only a few annoying scenes where things fly at you.

Nevertheless, I also would have preferred to see it in 2D.

I completely disagree. This was the best 3D I've ever seen in a film, except perhaps Avatar. The objects in the foreground really seemed to "pop" and be more crisp than normal; I thought it added to the experience.

To each his own, I guess.

These are the exact lines from the book...

...yes he could mean horcruxes...after all (at this point) Dumbledore doesn't realize how many times he split his soul but I think it's also fair to think that maybe he was experimenting with physical transformations and fucked himself up.
I'll just return to it one more time as I went to sleep after my last post. Why the hell would being an animagus be considered "Dark Arts, /.../ very worst of our kind, /.../ dangerous, magical transformations"? Tons of positive characters were animagi and it didn't change them one bit. The line was definitely about splitting souls.

And yeah, that was right, he made his first horcrux while still in Hogwarts (that's why CoS Riddle was a teenager). Wouldn't
diadem being in Room of Requirement
be considered a spoiler? One way or another, he already had split his soul at least twice by the time he came to apply for the job, and it was seemingly noticeable. All in all, he consequently did split it
7 times
so his appearance can easily be explained by horcruxes.

His appearance being due to the horcruxes is confirmed in the film.
his skin looks more human after each destruction

That doesn't make much sense.
The parts of his souls are being destroyed, he isn't getting them back. At the final duel Voldemort should have just as much of a soul on his body as he did at the start of the movie.

I watched it last night and it's definitely my movie of the year. My girlfriend had one gripe though,
in the end where Voldemort and Harry face off, why did they end that scene so abruptly? In the book they circle each other for a good few pages and everyone comes out and watches them and makes the scene much more dramatic and suspenseful
who else was bothered by it? Does anyone know why they followed such a concise approach?

I thought the same.
The amount of soul he has left is unrelated to the destruction of the horcruxes. Nevertheless, I think they made his skin more human-looking to show he is becoming "mortal" again and can be killed. So it must have been a decision to make it more expressive, but from a plot-perspective, it is wrong.

I also don't know why they did it like that, but it bothered me as well.
The fight should be in the Great Hall in front of everyone. Basically a bit of a repeat of how Dumbledore kept Voldemort occupied in book 5. Always calling him Tom and having the knowledge that his great magical powers are useless, because he has an ace left to play. (The Eldar wand)

I haven't enjoyed a Harry Potter movie since I was eleven when the first one came out. I don't understand the hype some of my friends enjoy for these movies. They've never been good.

The reviews for this last one have intrigued me however.

Really not liking what I'm hearing about the changes made to the final duel.

If they've fucked up the final part of the movie it's going to leave a very bad taste in my mouth for the movie as a whole.

I posted earlier that I don't think the 3D works for this film - its post processed to be 3D and it looks vey unatural this depth. Like a diorama all the way through. I think it might have lessened my enjoyment of the film. Especially during the slower scenes; itd really stuck out like a sore thumb and then its very fast motion; its very videogamey.

I'd strongly suggest watching this in 2D. Especially when that was how we'd watched all the harry potters - and then if you want to see the gimmicky 3D version - then go watch it.

Which one? And why not his daughter?

He has several?! I didnt read any book, it's just that we're only shown one son in the movie, and he looks a lot like Daniel Radcliffe. And I'd rather follow his adventures then the daughter's.

Not all countries are getting 2D versions :( It's sadly the same story as with Thor. A damn shame, but I have no choice this time.

Wow, that's messed up. Under which 3rd dimensional dictatorial regime do you suffer? I bet it's the country that produces all the 3d glasses...

If you want to hear something fucked up about 3d glasses, each box of 300 pairs costs £1.75 to manufacturer. My local cinema sells them for £1 each, meaning each box earns them £300.... i can't even fathom the profits for that.
