Harvest Moon (GC) gameplay difficulty?

My girl just started gaming (I got her into it). Now she saw Harvest Moon a wonderfull life on sale and she really wants it.
I want to know how the difficulty is, or atleast how deep it is gameplay wise.

She really just started gaming and I know HM is sort of a RPG. So can you guys give me some impressions?

You can do whatever you want basically, if you fuck up your crops for example, you'll get some advice on how to do it better next time.

Don't get A Wonderful Life, it stinks. There's a new Harvest Moon called Magical Melody for GC coming out at the end of March. It looks much more like the older games (FUN). There isn't really a lot of depth to the gameplay, it's just simple and addictive. I wouldn't even really call it an RPG. It's certainly not difficult, either.

Wonderfull Life isn't that bad, but I prefer the older incarnations. Magical Melody seems to be a lot better though. If you have a DS Harvest Moon DS is to be recommended as well.

If I was you I would hold out until march 28 when Magical Melodies comes out. That game looks like it will fix everything that was wrong in AWL. As for difficulty, the games are really forgiving. You can pretty much do what ever you want.

I bought AWL a few months ago, spent a week trying to figure it out, failed, and haven't played it since.

I just don't get it. I hate games that if you explore your character gets really tired and sluggish and then finally just lays down and sleeps. And I hate games where time goes by really fast so you have to do a day's work in 10 seconds. Plus, since it was my first HM, I didn't know what I was doing, and there was no tutorial to tell me. Wasn't worth going through the [seemingly] steep learning curve, just to be able to play a game I didn't like anyway. I don't recommend it at all.

It's an awfully beautiful game though.

Not unless his daughter can read and understand Japanese ;) HMDS won't be out in English until June.

I'm also on the hold-off-until-the-28th crowed. Magical Melody will be much more enjoyable for a youngster, especially since the characters are cutsey and make funny grunt noises when you talk to people. She'll have more fun with MM than with AWL.

If you get stuck Brady is publishing a guide for the game, which should be out around the 22nd. If you preorder now at Gamestop there's a chance that you might also get the plushie sheep preorder bonus.
