I got married on Maui so Hawaii will always be special to me:

That's the Ritz Carlton at Kapalua right? I stayed there. It was pretty nice.

up until recently, my family would fly to Honolulu every year to escape the chicago winter.

I really love the state, everything about it is pure bliss

Not to start shit, but Hawaii is another reason why living on the West Coast is so much better than the East. About a million times better than the Caribbean.

Going to Oahu in March but not staying in Honolulu. We are staying about 12 miles east in Kailua. At this beach:

I love everything about Hawaii. It's laid back and most of the locals are very friendly. There is amazing food. All of it. The fresh ahi is to die for down there! I could eat poke until I throw up. Cannot wait to be back down there!

how much was the wedding?

My cousins are taking me for 9 days in June and we are staying at a place right by the sea....I have never been before and this thread is making me so excited!

We are going to Maui.

My time there will be lived in the water.
This will be me

Man I'm trying to route the easiest way to get there...the flights for round trip are pretty damn expensive, I'm going to probably take a Carnival Cruise leaving from LA. The only reason in my mind is because I get to be in Hawaii for long peroids of time, and the food is included on the cruise.

Been to Maui, Oahu, and Kauai several times, and Kauai is by far and away my favorite island of the three. It's the least crowded, and feels the most remote. Also has the best scenery and things to see imo. Really the island you want to go to if you want to 'get away'. Oahu especially can kind of be a let down if you have expectations of Hawaii being a quiet tropical getaway.

2015 is it.

I really wanna do like hula parties, surfing on surf boards really do like cheesy Hawaii things.

2015 looks like the year I'm going guys :0

I have been twice. Once to Oahu and just recently to Maui.

I strongly prefer Maui, though both were great. Oahu is just a bit more crowded. Maui is quiet, drop-dead gorgeous, hot, has great beaches, snorkeling, hiking and pretty much everything.

one of the popular things to do on Maui is to go up to the top of the crater for sunrise and view it. I did that with my family. It was sublime.

We honeymooned on Maui for 10 days, I've never been more relaxed in my life.

If you do any remote hiking don't bring anything valuable and just leave the car doors unlocked. Wasted about a half day dealing with swapping rental cars after a window was smashed out.

Hawaii is amazing. I have family near Kona and they took us to some pretty awesome places, particularly ones that tourists don't know about. We went deep sea fishing (I caught a 30 pound Ono) and about 20 dolphins started swimming with and jumping alongside our boat, we took a boat to the Captain Cook memorial where we had lunch and went snorkeling, we went to a lagoon with natural hot springs and sea turtles just chillin on the shore (virtually no tourists knew about this place), and did a bunch of other cool stuff. Unfortunately I don't have specific locations or names since it was a long time ago. :( But no matter where you go you'll probably have a great time, especially if you know someone there who can take you to places other than the touristy places.

I've only been to Oahu, and stayed in Honolulu. The weather was awesome and food was amazing too. It's probably been mentioned already, but Honolulu is a huge tourist city.

If you want the experience everyone fantasizes about, I've heard recommendations for Maui and Big Island. Hopefully I'll be able to go back in the near future and visit the other islands.

We're going to Honolulu and staying at Aulani it's going to be awesome I'll report back and tell you guys if it lives up to the dream

The restaurants across the street are great and way cheaper as the poster above notes. The Hawaiian place was my fave and the cheapest. We rented one of the aulani condos by buying cheap Disney vacation points from a website and that ended up saving us a ton of money on food, because we cooked, we packed light because we had laundry and got free parking instead of paying the eye watering $35 per day to park. Don't bother with the snorkel fake lagoon. Just go to a real spot.

The kids club was basically free all day babysitting and was amazing.

I think how much you'll like Hawaii depends a lot on where you're from.

By bizarre coincidence my wife and I both have family on Oahu, and her dad works at an airline and can get us on flights for free, or heavily reduced if we don't want to fly standby.

So I've been a handful of times, and coming from Southern California it honestly isn't that impressive. The well-known areas like Waikiki are touristy and just packed with people. I do really like driving, walking and swimming around North Shore (seeing the turtles is always great) but after a few days I'm ready to move on. If I had to pay for flights and housing once would have been enough.

On the other hand, if you don't live anywhere near an ocean or in a similar climate I'm sure it's fantastic.

Hawaii's a special place. I lived in Oahu for three years from '96 to '99. Lived up at Schofield Barracks since my dad was military. Even if it was only three years I still see the place as home and have thought about it nearly every day since I moved away.

I've also been to the Big Island and Maui. Lovely, lovely places.

Last time I got to go was about five years ago, but later this year my dad and I will be heading back for about a week. Unfortunately we won't be able to island hop as initially planned so we'll only be doing Oahu.

Might as well ask this now, but what are some good hikes on Oahu?

Wow thanks so much! What website did you use again thanks for the awesome advice

Yes, I was there several years ago, Maui and Oahu. One of the best places I've ever been. It's beautiful and there is a lot to see and do.

The wife and I are planning a trip for late march. Maui for a week with the in laws and than we were thinking of staying on the big island for a week but i see a lot of people recommending Kauai. Little torn now. The main reason for Kona is to see a volcano as thats something we both reaaallly want to do but I'm not sure if its worth a week trip for that. I'm sure it would be awesome regardless.

Some great information in here.
